Have great time training your finger to reach the fingerprint reader on the back.
What a mistake that is, completely clueless...
On the s8 unlocking is bad, but on the s8+ it is mission impossible. Can' t grasp that, what were they thinking.
Apple can make a homerun by integrating touchid in the screen, but even when they(hope not) have to put it on the back, they will find a better place , it is almost impossible not to.

But when we' ll get it on the back, apple will find a way to make a back-lit apple logo to soften the blow :)
I suggest you reread the response I was quoting to; you might be responding to the wrong poster here.

I wonder what kind of TouchID under the screen they are going for. If it will only be under the screen in one place (i.e. when TouchID is needed, you place your finger in the same place every time - such as where the soft Home Button is) then it's not too hard to do. Placing photodiodes under the screen to detect when the area is covered and then lighting up the green pixels should do enough. If they want to have the TouchID location appear at customisable regions on the screen it may be a bit more expensive as enough photodiodes to cover the whole screen would need to be used.

Please don't put Touch ID on the back of the iPhone. If they can't put it in the screen they should just delay it until they get it right.
I've used the Pixel from being just an iPhone user for a long time and the touch ID button on the back would be killer, I'd definitely want.

Cases would most likely have a cutout. Car cradle, use Siri or password (which you have to have for Touch ID anyway). Laying on a desk? I don't know, pick it up.

These reasons seem like minor annoyances that would soon be forgotten with usage and muscle memory.

Car cradle? emulate Android and have location/pairing based unlock. There are 3 places where I spend most of my time and where the phone is considered secure, home, work and in my car. Geofence for home and work and use a prefered paired device, like my car to auto-unlock.

GASP! Renders on an internet site. It's just got to be the real deal!

No one in the history of history has every mocked up a schematic rendering in CAD based on their own ideas before, no one!

I love when these rumours, mocked up by usually some fan like us on the web, gets picked up by case manufacturers. We see all these "iphone X" cases out weeks before announcements, then, none of them fit

I think the iphone 5 was the most ridiculous example of this.

That was a real hoot to see. Good times, good times....

Doesn't the mbpro tb version have Touch ID? I'd suggest apple has a clue how to make that work on iphone. Apple Watch, even gen1, is touch/pressure sensitive. They have the technology, prolly perfecting the software algorithms??

If there's something I like the most about Apple is their reluctance in releasing a half baked solution. Especially a security system. Touch ID wasn't new when Apple released it but they did it the best possible way and it worked perfectly. That's the point and that's what consumers care about.
