Whatever. iPhone 8 will probably be outshined by Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with its optical zoom camera.

The iPhone 8 is rumoured to have a 3D sensing style camera. Also I'm betting now that the iPhone will outshine the Note 8 and the galaxy S8 it happens every year, Samsung release a phone and then Apple release one that sells like hot cakes and completely outshines them, apart from last years Note 7 that truly was explosive, sorry I couldn't resist that joke I really did try :D

Nothing wrong with putting the Touch ID Sensor on the back of the phone. It may not be convenient since you need to pick up a phone off a table or desk, but the emphasis is being put on facial/Iris detection. As long as the sensor is always on and doesn't need an active backlit screen to activate, it should be fine.
I'll take bezels over Touch ID sensor on the back of the phone. If they move it to the back them I'll keep my current iPhone.

How do facial or iris recognition fare without picking up the phone? I imagine you'd need to lean right over the table to get your face in the right place.

I wouldn't buy this phone with a 10 foot pole. You would be safer going with the evolutionary 7s until Apple gets the kinks out with say the iPhone 8s or iPhone 9.

I was talking to my aunt's second cousin that has a neighbor whose dog plays with an employee at Apple and she said the iPhone 8's having issues with integrating the integrated Lidar system capable of doing automotous movement from your coffee table to your bed room end table when you forget to move it upstairs.

That is my field research.

Maybe Apple should get in contact with Samsung since the the S8 will have it on their touchscreens :)

I think it's worth the wait just to listen to Phil Schiller saying:

"We, at Apple, like to get things right, even if it means we are not the first. Just take a look at what our competitors have done. They wanted to remove bezels so bad that they placed their fingerprint sensor in the worst place imaginable. Gotta love those smudges in the camera lenses".

Too bad Craig Federighi does not present the new hardware. He would be the perfect guy to burn Samsung on this

I've used phones with fingerprint readers on the back and have had no issues. I don't understand why everyone is beating the same drum to say it's awkward. Do people live in infomercial land where adults have no coordination and struggle to open milk jugs and crack eggs?

It would be very, VERY un-Apple to change a whole design just because of yield issues. If the tech works and they're getting some yield at least then it works, its the production that is the issue. They will announce it and show it off, then give a vague release date for when they think they'll have issues ironed out.

I hope that's a joke, because not it won't the S8 has the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone and looks stupid right next to the camera.

I was wondering that too.

It seems like a lot of engineering effort being expended for no functional gain.

There is nothing wrong with it. They just want to remove the button all together and make the phone smaller or screen larger.

Just like they were "struggling" to implement the original TouchID. Just like they were "struggling" to get adequate screen yields for iP6.

These articles are like ****ing clockwork, based on nothing but analyst's need to put something out to justify their pointless existence. Frankly these things always read like a Jim Cramer "let's manipulate the stock price by throwing a rumor out there the media will run with" tactic. It happens every. single. time. an Apple product is a few months from announcement. Every time.

If this report is true I think they will still launch it at time but with a very limited quantity and with the storage capacities higher (128GB-256GB starting size). Like how they have done with the Jet Black iPhone.

I ordered my Jet Black model before the phones actually launched, direct from Apple. But it still took about a month from the day of release to get it. Everyone is aware of how few Jet Black iPhone 7+'s there was even with the 128GB minimum sizing (thus raising the price to limit purchase orders).

I expect the same if they cannot manufacture the 5.8" iPhone until the September launch window.
