I find it hard to believe it's mid-April and Apple doesn't yet know what path it's going to take for a September release. I call BS on this research note.

If Apple knew EVERYTHING, then why not start producing it right NOW?

There are always unknowns up until the last minute for any hardware/software release.

Prototypes are created over and over again... then things are tested in the real world that like cellular strength... then tweaks are made and another prototype is created.... and so on... Just because something is on paper doesn't mean it can be produced in the real world exactly like it was on paper.

They already design 2 years ahead this is fully ready now and final design has been made they dont leave to last month so more stupid reports

It'll be out in a few weeks. It's being called the Samsung Galaxy iPhone S8.
Samsung didn't get a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone. That's really the only difference here and the entire reason for this article. Considering that Samsung put the headphone jack back in their latest phone, it won't look good if Apple cannot make this happen with that extra room they have in the iPhone.

I'm not surprised; this seems like a huge task.

A completed iPhone 8 display would need to:
  • Be a screen
  • Have a capacitive touch surface
  • Maintain ForceTouch's pressure sensitivity
  • AND have a fingerprint sensor… somewhere

It's all for one step closer to reducing moving parts and completely waterproofing the iPhone.
Current Touch ID has no moving parts and is already ideal for waterproofing. The problem with a front facing Touch ID is that they might remove the divot which will make picking up the iPhone in the dark annoying. If you ever used a Siri remote, you know what I mean.

I'm glad I upgraded to the 7+, from the sounds of this, if true, sounds like it could potentially be one of those things where it doesn't really work right. Then iPhone 9 will be the one they 'really wanted iPhone 8 to be'.

iPhone 8 is delayed?

The iMac is due for an update, and one was expect at a March event that didn't happen. Same with the Retina MacBooks.
Same with the iPad Pros.

Mac Pros and standalone displays approx 1 year off.

What the hell is going on? Tim Cook is a supply chain genius, so I don't buy that it's incompetence, but it makes me wonder how all their products can be held up.

If Apple can't integrate the TouchID sensor behind the screen, then they should not get rid of the home button. I know that will upset the anti-bezel crowd, but my phone needs to be functional first. The TouchID sensor is one of the best things about the iPhone. My phone is unlocked before I can even see the screen. Its perfect. Its secure and there is no delay. An eye scanner can't work until its in front of your face. Lots of times, an app needs my TouchID as its sitting on my desk. Now I just reach over and touch it. Is the thought that I either have to pick up my phone every time I want to touch it or that I'm supposed to lean over my desk and get my face in front of the phone?

And as far as the TouchID sensor being on the back.... not much would keep me from getting my annual iPhone, but that just might.

How is the second option not user friendly? I've used a couple Android sets that have finger print readers on the back and he location seemed pretty natural to me.

I don't understand why they would make the "standard" versions and add another model which has all the new nice features & design tweaks.
there should be 2 sizes as usual and both should feature these changes.
to add a "more premium" version to something that is already priced and marketed as premium makes no sense and is anti-consumer.

Like you said, he's a supply-chain guy, not a visionary 'innovation guy'. And he seems incapable of adequately curating ideas from within Apple.

What I'm confused of is the naming... there's going to be a 7s and 7s+ along with this rumored iPhone 8.

Apple is already selling iPhone SE... and now adding another model to the mix. If they actually make one model with this OLED display... it would seem like a huge mistake.

Because there is going to be so many scalpers... the initial prices of Jet Black 7+ when re-sellers sold that online will be nothing compared to this rumored iPhone 8.

This is very very very worrying if true, as it will no doubt lead to failures, which Apple will deny, then onto threatening class action lawsuits which lead to almost instant recognition of the fault and a global Apple repair programme!

I am interested in this phone but news like this, given Apples history, is enough to give you second thoughts.

I'll take bezels over Touch ID sensor on the back of the phone. If they move it to the back them I'll keep my current iPhone.

This entire bezel free movement is a step in the wrong direction anyway. I have been using a Samsung Galaxy S7 for some work i'm doing and half the time I touch stuff I don't want to.

I'll take my iPhone over those any day.....

This technology seems to really stymie everyone right now.

Samsung was allegedly attempting to do the same thing in the S8 and just ran out of time and couldn't get it working right. hence the crappy location for the fingerprint sensor on the S8. it was a fallback plan.

looks like Apple's running into similar issues. Maybe the extra 6 months or so might give Apple enough time to fix the problems. And if its' still unpheasible, come up with a suitable alternative that's not some ridiculously hard to reach off balance mess that the S8 implemented

I vote delay. Touch ID is too vital to remove and the back isnt an optimal location for a finger print sensor.
