Kids. I'm gonna poke a hole in your no home button theory.

The invitation is a photoshop job.

Please note the following :

The calendar icon is in focus.
The other icons are not in focus.
The bubbles are in focus also.

if this were a macro zoom photo the bubbles would not be in focus.

And unless Apple can go forward in time the calendar icon shows a future date. Making it a Ps job.

The under lighting of the hand is somewhat odd.
the hand wasn't photographed while anywhere near the iPad in shot.

As my "Photogrammartology"* Lecturer used to say
"there are no casual inferences in advertising"
In other words Imagines are carefully crafted so you only see what you are meant to. Apple and the agencies are masters of this.

*Pretty sure it was a field he made up himself so no one else was entirely sure of it's boundaries or what classes he should be teaching.

I went CSI, with my limited skills and I present my evidence:

Everyone says: The picture is in landscape and that is the reason of why there is no button.

So I checked pictures in landscape and noticed that if you have 6 icons in landscape mode on the dock, you will realised that the space between the apps would be more than the picture shown if you use the app size as reference.

So here a picture of a 5 icons in landscape and if you check that reflection wave on the dock you will notice that it touches close to the end of the bezel of the left app. However, in the original picture you will notice that would be close to the begin of the bezel.

So I checked as well a portrait with 4 and 5 docked icons. The 4 icons one passes the app icon and we actually have a match with the 5 icons on the portrait mode and the home button should be just below the maps app.

Moreover, if you would cut the picture as the original shot, only in the 5 portrait you would cut the dot index out of the frame.

Probably someone already pointed out, but if not, notice the selection of the apps: Maps(Cupertino), Calendar(7th), Keynote.

it doesn't say "See and touch". It is "See. And Touch"...

so that could be 2 separate products....

Then again, that leak was .....a leak.

Most likely controlled.

Same with the screen.

Look at all the buzz it's created. People are whipped into a frenzy

You are retarded if you think this "buzz" is anywhere out there in the "real world". The buzz is just between Apple fans and geeks.

Not saying this is a bad thing, just trying to straighten this lad out, he thinks Apple leaked this because they need/want these sort of stunts to create a "buzz".

They don't.

If anyone takes a closer look and thinks about the marketing...

"We have something you really have to see. And touch."

Think iPod Touch think iPad Touch!

We have something for you to see 'iPad 3 with retina display' oh and one more thing 'iPad 3 Touch'.

Take a close look at the buttons on the picture seen over at http://mashable.com/2012/02/28/ipad-3-event

in the box below is a big box showing "8 iPad 3 Rumors", look at the spacing of the icons in the dock. They are at least, if not more than 1 icon width apart. Now look at the apple invite, the icons are less than 1 icon apart in space. The finger gives a perspective clue on the distance and is a very big hint.

We have something for you to see = 'iPad with retina display'
and touch = 'iPad Touch'

Elementary my dear watson... Of course I am speculating maybe someone else can confirm my suspicions?

You know the invite it is a photoshop job right ?.

Because of this they could space the icons any way they wanted. And in this case they wanted them closer together to put out the place,date and event.

it wasn't a leak it was a press invite which was very public

naysayers blah blah blah

wait till march 7, and see if my words are true oh and the words ". And Touch." are not photoshop (well added in via photoshop but photoshop didn't come up with the words).

The hand may also be photoshopped in, note I work professionally in the Television News Media and have done so for the last 20+ years. I work with Photoshop every day and while the hand and reflection may be photoshopped in (due to lighting on the thumb) the shot of the screen is not. The focus issues as mentioned before are depth of field and are in camera which means the screen is real in the shot, just the finger has been layered over the top.

As for the spacing of the icons even in landscape with 6 icons the distance between them is more than 1 icon wide:

I'm with him... Apple leaks things in a controlled way to build hype. They are THE MASTERS of hype. And if you think hype from Apple is only for Apple fans, you're wrong... It goes on most major news sites and newspapers, for example:
http://www.cnn.com/TECH/

Not likely. Your fingers look thick and chubby... Apple's photo is much closer to my hand.

Also... I'm not sure why people are thinking it's so out there to get rid of the home button... what is wrong with the gesture?

what's wrong with the home button? Is it really taking up that much space or is it that much of a nuisance? Or do people think a physical button is not cool enough?

Retina and tactile feedback make the most sense as the next benchmarks against their competitors. Retina makes for good advertising whether we actually need it or not, tactile feedback will help win over those desperately clinging to netbooks etc, and also starts to pave the way for advancements in the keyboards of notebooks Apple do produce, harmonising the two.

The home button may not go next month but it definitely makes sense to lose it as the products develop, there's no doubt it will disappear down the line. Look at the phone in isolation- losing the home button leaves really just the front facing camera and microphone, leaving more room for a larger screen on a future model. The edges of the iPad screen could equally be reduced over time much as has been seen with the iMac, it just makes sense. The home button 'you just know how to use it' thing is instilled in users much like the clickwheel was, but they will quickly adapt just as they did to the ipod touch and wonder why they ever needed it when replaced by a replacement gesture. :apple:

No, it's "touch"

I just talked to Tim Cook and he revealed to me the following features for iPad 3:

- LTE/4G capability;
- Retina display;
- 32/64/128GB options;
- tactile feedback surface/virtual home button;
- Thunderbolt port;
- Optimized dual-core processor, leading edge GPU.

Mark my words and see for yourself on the 7th... :rolleyes:

Their stock rose today because of this announcement :D
Yesterday: AAPL 520-523. Today: 535 :)

Just for fun!

Image

btw: look at the hand's size on Apples photo. Must be the one of a child...

Please do me a favour and take the same picture in portrait with 5 icons on the dock. Maps, Calendar and Keynote have to be the last 3, and cut it in the same way. That will show proof of no home button.

Screens in photos and videos are almost ALWAYS simulated because cameras can't record them well. Even today, in films, when someone is looking at a computer screen it's added in later because of the flickering.

Not anymore. Sure, that used to be the case with old CRT's that had slow refresh rates, but LCD's now-a-days film just fine due to the higher refresh rates (and ones in sync with the filming frame rate). Often the screen will be faked for sure, but not always in post - often it's just a mock-up or video or something on screen.

I cracked it.

In line with expectations, The Loop reports that Apple today sent out invitations for a media event scheduled for next week Wednesday, March 7. The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific / 1:00 PM Eastern. The tagline on the invitation reads "We have something you really have to see. And touch."

Apple is of course expected to introduce the iPad 3 at the event, with an upgraded Apple TV set-top box also reportedly in the plans. Rumors have also suggested that Apple could show off a new high-definition audio format with "adaptive streaming" that could allow Apple's iCloud and iTunes Match services to send varying qualities of audio files to different devices depending on bandwidth and hardware requirements.

A keynote on Wed, Mar 7 about Maps.
could be free navigation system. and yes, iPad 3.

Two things ... you must have the smallest hands of any adult on the face of the planet, other than the hand model in the invitation. And the reason gesture will not replace a Home button (though, maybe the Home button can be moved), is the popularity of the iPad. Too many people are buying this product just to ignore those with missing fingers ... or most common: aging consumers who are arthritic.
