To see = Better camera.
To touch = Multi-Touch Retina display

Unfortunately you are probably right...I still dont get why the iPad needs a camera. Front facing for face time perhaps but the rear one is just a waste. I'd rather pay $50 less.

My buddies home button is broken but there is a software fix allowing a floating home button built into the accessibility feature in settings. It is a nice workaround, but it puts a floating home button on his screen, so it isn't visually appealing.

I'm skeptical that they can get rid of the home button on the iPhone. But the iPad is meant to be operated with two hands, so they could put a button on the side or go to multi-touch moves.

If iPad 3 when multigesture only I wouldn't mind which would make the home button not really have a purpose.

Either way Im frickin excited.

As an amateur photog I like this latitude as far as getting a higher resolution but when I bought my iPad 2 I was in love with it and still in love with my 64GB 3G iPad.. really the specs are massaged I wont see a major difference without a loupe. Previous articles talked about processing which may mean more to me. I am expecting more an iPad 2S and not so much an iPad 3 I will keep up with wats going on but I cant watch another boring ass presentation with Tim Cook, Scott Forestall, and Phil Schiller.. they can at least hire a charismatic speaker if they cant iResurrect Steve Jobs (presentation matters just as much as the product itself) I'd even want Jonathan Ive

I think you will see some difference without a loupe, maybe not a major one but it should be easily noticeable. Although if I owned any kind of iPad (1 or 2) I wouldn't even bother thinking about getting the 3 :D

More importantly, I don't totally agree with you regarding the boring character of the last presentations (nor that presentation matters just as much as the product itself), but I fully agree that none of the one's you mentioned is great of a speaker.

What just popped trough my head though was why we've never seen Ive take the stage, I mean even when Steve was alive and (semi)wealthy, towards the end when he begun to divide stage time with co-workers more frequently??

Anyone who has used an Android phone or tablet knows the frustration of not having a home button. I don't think Apple is going that direction, at least anytime soon, people are overanalyzing the image.

Anyway, credit card ready, countdown to Wednesday begins!

Ok well since the iPad currently has a home button I think it's more appropriate to ask for reasoning/justification for why it should be removed. Is the home button really bothering anyone? Is it taking up unnecessary space? Why is a gesture better than the home button? Why didn't Apple just use gestures to begin with?

Yes. it bothers me that:-
The button is a weak link in the design and artificially shortens the useful life of the device. It needs improvement at least for that reason.

The physical device doesn't dictate how it should be held other than the button. The use orientation is determined by the app in question I'm using, the button requires me to think about which way a pick up the device.
When you use the device in the dark the button isn't so apparent,* again making thing about the device not what i'm trying to get done with device.

A gesture would always be the same relative to screen content.

It would seem the button determines the size of the bezel. Which could be half the size, unless you hold the device like Apple shows you to. Which to me is just the worst way to hold the device. So a smaller bezel would allow greater thumb reach.

Why not to start with, not being an engineer would suggest battery usage and cost of technology reason. I'm imagining that the updated device will use gestures that start off screen so they are still single finger guestures. So additional digitizer lines beyond the screen that can tell the difference between deliberate gesture or casual touch well enough. Maybe new screen can be read without the back-light on at all. Maybe finer processes allow for regions of the sensor to be switched on independently. Maybe none/all of the above but/and some other technology.

*Yes bad for eyes, but good for relationship.

The screen looks pretty much like it's around 100 PPI to me...

Oh wait, that's because my monitor is running at 100 PPI.

What if you look at the image on an iPhone 4? ;)

For the record, the home button has not had the negative effects on my life as the poster above me. I could do with or without it.

You ignored the rest of what I said, namely:

1. Its just another part that can and DOES break (making the iPad more reliable/less warranty claims without a home button)

2. Its annoying to have a home button when playing games, as you accidentally hit it. It happens to me all the time.

The home button traps some dust regardless of whether you use a screen protector or not (I don't use one personally, but I have in the past). And the screen protector thing is just icing on the cake.

And how is a home button the "staple of iOS"? Its something people barely pay attention to or talk about unless its brought up. And as long as you can do the same functions with your fingers, people will forget quickly.

I dont recall the last time a discussion of iOS versus Android or even just iOS apps or user experiences focused on the function of the home button.

You are rationalising, the home button is the very staple of their whole line up, no one is ditching it any time soon, it would mean a whole rethinking of ways for the device to function and retraining of end users. Apple might as well stick a gun and shoot their feet before ditching the home button as they are ever expanding into more and more markets. This is simply not happening, not now, and not in the foreseeable future. I ve been following apple since back when people were saying what the hell do we need an iPod and then a tablet for? I might be able to tell a few more things more than you can, no offence.

How does this work when it's in your pocket and going crazy constantly. Battery life gone ...

In your pocket?? Who are you, Paul Bunyan? This would be a good week to give up drugs.

You are retarded if you think this "buzz" is anywhere out there in the "real world". The buzz is just between Apple fans and geeks.

Not saying this is a bad thing, just trying to straighten this lad out, he thinks Apple leaked this because they need/want these sort of stunts to create a "buzz".

They don't.

Same with the screen.

Look at all the buzz it's created. People are whipped into a frenzy

Sorry, I had to quote myself there.
Are you calling me a retard ?
You know, I get time outs for the simplest things. It's always because a person like you is a Moderatator.
You are a too much! Apple crazed and irrational. People like me who just like technology and want to chime in don't have a chance.

I always speak the truth. I'm no troll.

Apple DOES create leaks. It's documented. You don't want to believe it ? Well then, who it mentally inferior ?

Will it be thinner? That remains a huge issue for me...with the iPhone 4S...a great product that I own and use everyday...the style is now 2.5 years old...will this design of the iPad 2 live on through that iPad 3??? I really hope not...what are your guys' thoughts?:apple:4Life

Well do you personally think it will be thinner and/or lighter?:p:apple:

SOMEBODY JUST ANSWER ME WHETHER THEY THINK IT WILL BE THINNER THICKER OR THE SAME DESPITE PREVIOUS RUMORS:mad:

Meltdown witnessed.

You are absolutely correct. I'm quoting your whole post, because this thread is moving so fast and as many people as possible should see this! Great detective work! :)

However, there are three more possibilities.

- The FaceTime camera has changed from position (possibly in the middle when hold in landscape mode)
- The home button has changed from position (I'd assume to the middle when hold in landscape mode)
- Both have changed from position (I'd assume to the middle when hold in landscape mode).

I have to agree. With the Smart Cover the Camera and home button are in the wrong spot. In portrait mode I think the home button will be on the middle left while the camera on the middle right.

It is used most often in that orientation so why not.

btw iPad 3 will be my first.

I really hope they improve their map app to include turn-by-turn navigation. I mean, I am fine with TomTom, but it would be nice to have an Apple one integrated into the system, because you know they will do it right.

I don't understand why they would announce their new map app at their Apple TV/iPad 3 announcement, but Apple rarely does anything by accident. I can't see them having had the Map icon there randomly. I mean, why not put a clock icon showing 10AM instead?

That map icon is hardly "there randomly". They've used that map icon on invitations in the past to show the location of the event. Most recently on the 4S invitation. And they have used the clock before as well. It has NOTHING to do with revamped apple maps.
