Invoke-Full-name-of-your-favorite-Diety-here, folks....

Take a breath, people. Calm down. Relax. Lower your guard just a bit.
It's only a device... non-materialism... non-materialism... higher consciousness... oommmm...ooommm...

(are they relaxed? Guard dropped a bit? Good, then I'll just slip by them in line, here at the ol' :apple: Store, and scoop up one of these AmazingAwesomeFreakishlyCoolWunderKindE-gasm devices while they are meditating... mwa ha ha ha ha!!!!)

Name and Price

It will not be called "iSlate". That's a horrible name. It will be called Macbook Touch.

Fits right into the current lineup.
Macbook
Macbook air
Macbook Touch
Macbook Pro

Now the downside: It's going to cost around $2,099. That's just something that Apple does. Have you noticed the LACK of information/rumors about price? It's not in Apple's nature to release a brilliant new must have product, and then turn around and price it at something that you can actually afford. IE: The first iPhone, the Macbook air, etc.

We will all be amazed by this thing, and we' will all be shocked at the high price. Has that ever NOT happened with any brand new Apple "creation"?

Notice all the different colors. Red, yellow, blue, pink, green, grey and a little purple. If you mix all these together, you get the orange color in the middle.

Orange mixing those colors? I think a muddy gray is what you get from them

Tp!

Well, I am almost sure that this is going to be something more that a "standard" tablet announcement. To really be on top of a competition they would need to do something more ... something that no one would expect them to do ... reinvent a toilet paper! This is the goal for 27th :)

This thread reminds me of why I'm so glad Apple Fanboys don't name Apple products.

iSlate?
iTablet?
iNewton?
Canvas?
iPallet?
iTab?
MacTouch?

Seriously guys. It's going to be a good name... not some stupid fanboy name. I do know however, that whatever name Apple gives it will be thrown out the window and shortened by Mac fanboys and typed all over the internet as if that's the actual name.

They should call it "iTouch" and confuse the hell out of everyone!

How about a touchscreen imac with detachable tablet as screen ? Would come in handy for artists doing all kinds of "creation"...

If this is a tablet that can be used with a stylus for accurate illustration and graphics work, I'll gladly sell our MBP's and Wacom Cintiqs and go with Imacs & Tablets.

Oh, but what am I saying, according to the punters here, there are only two or three people out there who do any kind of graphics, illustration, or drawing work, and there's no reason anyone else should do that sort of thing.

Eidorian, stop with the drugs...the 13" model is the most successful in Apple's line, due to its perfect size/performance ratio...it will only get shafted in order to give way to a better 13" model.
It's alright. I don't expect you to read over 3,000 posts.

Well, it won't be called MacBook. Book suggests something that opens and closes which would necessitate a hinge. Definitely not MacBook. This would be a new brand ... iSlate seems very probable.

The paint splatter on the invitation clearly indicates that the tablet can be used as an input device for Apple's new professional photo software that will go head-to-head with Adobe Photoshop. It will be 64 bit and all tablets will include a free version. This is how they will sell 10 million tablets.... right?

OMG! This is one of the rare speculative thoughts that actually make sense! I like the idea.

The spray paint is a reference to Palms graffiti handwriting recognition.

Oh! I was thinking this looked like they were finally going to ship a graphics app with updated AppleWorks like tools including the spray can - that pic certainly looks like an evolution of it! Maybe as part of the new iLife ;)?

Whatever, very cool there's finally some sort of confirmation. Bring on the 27th. Well actually bring on the 28th here - that's when I'll wake up to the news of what happened.

2 Problems :

1) Most speculation points to it being a glorified iPhone (running the iphone OS), thus this device, so far, doesn't seem to fit into the portable notebook lineup, hence having an i- prefix

2) I think most of us are ready to pay $600-$1000 easily (I speak for no one but these are the figures i've seen). But 2100 dollars? For a device running an iphone os? Why?

Why is it labeled as an "creative" event when all signs point to the tablet being a media consumption device?

Since when do all signs point to that? Doesn't this very invitation refute that statement?

I think it's obvious that a tablet will primarily be a media consumption device. Even computers fall into that category for most people. However the tablet will be multifunction, and perhaps Apple will want to focus on the creative side (watching a movie isn't really exciting), or maybe Apple was hinting at how creative they were in designing this device.

In terms of creation:
Having a way to make handwritten notes seems like a given.
A paint-like app is likely (and already available through third parties)
It's possible that the tablet could also serve as a secondary monitor/multitouch input device to macs, vastly increasing the ability to easily create content on a mac.
