Best part of this article: the headline. "Tablet rumored." Is it really?

Oh? You have proof of a tablet? Where? I wanna see!

Everybody is speculating. What if it's not a tablet?

There's a lot of hints pointing at a tablet but we could all be just taking the hints the wrong way.

Remember when everyone was CERTAIN the iPhone nano was going to come out?

Ok, I didn't read the other 17 pages of posts yet, so don't ridicule me if someone else already mentioned this...or ridicule, your angry bytes can't hurt me.

What if the tablet is as other have assumed (think basic features of the rumored iSlate, etc.), but the killer functionality is you plop it in front of your iMac and it is a new input device. A drawing tablet matches the "latest creation" motif, but since it has a screen, software applications could overlay different buttons, etc. Also, this would add multi-touch to the iMac.

Yes, the magic mouse makes this seem a little far fetched...

I think some sort of functionality like that is obvious, and it has been suggested by numerous people. Although many more seem to have never considered the possibility. If your think about it, the Remote app on the iPhone is a very basic version of this concept.

The tablet serving as a secondary screen/input device hasn't really been rumored to be a feature, but it does seem like an obvious one. We'll have to wait and see.

Not to mention that they're gonna release it with a slot-in display to turn it into a full-fledged Mac.

IS BACK XD

awesome, glad to see something is confirmed. Looking forward to the 27th!

3) Which OS? Iphone OS or SnowLeopard or another hybrid? If it is iphoneOS then how will it take advantage of the tablet form factor and new GUI features.
Using probably an "extended" version of iPhone OS.

I would bet my life you are WRONG! I will quote you next Wednesday when you are whining about it running a hybrid iPhone OS and being a slate and I am right (which is 95% of the time)!
Something tells me to advise you to stop responding to these posts for the next week, if you want to remain sane. Instead, start amassing posts like those to quote on the 27th.

hey, since all of you guys are throwing ton's of predictions for apple's january 27th event, had any one of you asked what about the squared-like black line around the colored spots ? like you can see it's done on purpose since there's still colors out of the box..!
what predictions we can build right away from the picture:
- apple tablet with various colors and with artistic capabilities.
- macbook pro refreshes along with new photoshop-like softwares to be released targeting art and design.
- apple will be releasing anything new with a screen and an apple logo in the back which is the much possible macbook pro refreshes or maybe the tablet with an apple logo ?

anyway there's a purpose for the drawn line ! to me, hope it will be a macbook refresh.. =)

it's about time...

I admit that while wishing for an Apple Tablet, I have owned a 12" PowerBook, a 15" PowerBook, a 15" MacBook Pro, and now a 13" MacBook Pro. I also own an iPhone, and I sell iPhone apps.

But if Apple doesn't announce a tablet on the 27th, I'm going to click "Confirm" on my order at O'Reilly.com for that book on "Learning Java" and the "Android SDK."

3D Visuals/Interface?

Just a thought...

The splotches on the invite are layered and appear to be overtaking the boarder, perhaps depicting some sort of 3D visual effects.

If true, this would influence the way one would interact with the device, and could provide for a "steep learning" curve.

...from a guy that don't know squat.

It will be a new tablet called the iCom Tablet. iCom.com is registered, but no registrant information available at this time. It can be used as a mobile gaming and internet device, a Wacom-type tablet (that's the paint-splatter part), an e-reader, mobile video-conferencing device, digital photo frame with optional home-charging base. etc. It will not have full OS for mobile laptop computing. My 2¢. :)

And now regardless of what has been said in the Gazillion Post prior to mine:

iThink:

1. It is going to be the Tablet-Type device, if not suicides will strike in a high number.
2. It looks like its going to balance between Input n Output. Not passive consumption only. I had hoped so and now I am convinced.
3. All the trying to figure out what that peace of spray-paint pop art really means is not going anywhere, but making it even harder to wait. Job done AdPeople.
4.Now what to expect really. They will have to show the UI, Software and all that so i am pretty certain it will come with an implementation of the iPhone OS.
And we will see iPhone 4.0!
The last iPhone service Update has been a long time Back and a major OS Jump takes its time.
I just cant see the Options at stake for existing iPhones?! What will that 4.0 bring to the installed user base...

iThink 4.0 will bring all its magic to the Tablet like device. And what is beyond....

One will see all that on the 27th. i am just glad it is going to happen, if not the Tablet (i could live with that) give me a unibody aluminum (aluminium)iPhone instead.

If you want to speculate about the graphic...
Maybe the paint is hinting a new way to interact with touch screens, not by touching it rather through gestures... picture some one throwing paint a canvas like you see them do in movies to create something like this. Your not touching the canvas/tablet however you are making an impression.

I'm thinking it could be a new keyboard. Magic Keyboard to be exact. It only makes sense since they have a Magic Mouse. I think the whole tablet rumor was put out to keep all of us off the main focus of Magic Keyboard.
