Apple Issues Invitations for January 27th Media Event

aahahah

Actually, thread 500 (aka the 2001 iPod thread) is one of the most entertaining threads you will ever get to read on macrumors.

Reality check: CHECK.

Just goes to show, no one really has any idea what this device will be, what it can/will be able to do in the future, or what it will mean to the world of electronics.

I really, truly hope that it can, or will someday, be able to double down as a multi touch input device for the mac computers, I would love using it as a wacom style input!

slate offers new 'paint' interaction mode, which is a hybrid of finger touch and stylus touch.

pressure sensitive new 'soft' stylus allows for handwriting recognition as well as detailed paint-style controls for artists.

slate is clear glass in main appearance using that electronic glass frosting for opacity when in use -- also a neat way to share on-screen presentations, controllable from both sides and viewable (correct non-mirrored view) from selected side.

optional built in wifi or 3g, can use dedicated iphone tethering for that to save on base unit cost/contracts.

120 gig hd, usb and sd card slots.

uses smaller li-ion batteries (like compact cameras), removable for recharging.

dockable, similar to iphone/ipod docks, with usb or SD slots there (in place of actually on board) - less preferable to on-board, but possible.

runs limited adobe programs for on the go retouching/graphics and presentation.

mini dvi video out.

optional accessories set includes dedicated projector unit, vid conference camera pack, additional peripheral add-ons

base unit: (no wifi/3G) 120 SS HD/2G RAM 550.00
connectivity pack add on (3g/Airport card): 150.00
camera lack add on: 200.00
projector unit add on: 350.00

super slate pack: 160 SS HD/4G RAM with connectivity built in: 850

"Stop with the druuugs,
Drugs in your head."

Finally some official notice. I reckon their announcing the iSlate and releasing new MacBook Pros. :D Unfortunately, I bought a MacBook Pro a coupe of months ago so I hope their not too much better. :(

You can bet their will be either an i5 or an i7 in the next MBP's.

Considering that FoxNews has further reported on the rumor, I am pretty sure that the "one more thing" will be..................Sarah Palin in Apple's Board! :D

Did anyone with the premiere of 24 on Fox last night? Chloe was working on a Mac laptop that appeared to have a Lucite shell with titanium tinted metallic underlay. It had a black Keyboard.

They were also passing around what appeared to be tablets in orange. But I am thinking those were possibly dummied up props.

How about those cool transparent 3-D tablets the scientists were using in 'Avatar'. I'm thinking they were possibly dummied up props too.

BUMMER!!!

I was probably the only one waiting for this to happen on January 26TH

I would be pissed to return my macbook pro 2.8 on the 26th (last day of my return) only to waste 15% of $2,299 re-stocking fee only to find out theres nothing for me worth getting from this announcement. haha.. oh well!!!

The tablet won't replace a MBP if you actually use a significant fraction of its capabilities. If you don't, why didn't you get a macbook? Then again, there could be new MBP's announced before the tablet. I guess the real question is why did you buy a MBP so late in its product cycle? My advise? Pretend the 27th never happened for a few months.

Wait, so it's wednesday?

The tuesday before will see the MBP updates, i bet.
Highly unlikely.

Apple is announcing earnings on Monday the 25th after the market closes. For them to be prudent as viewed by the shareholders, they can make no announcements on Tuesday the 26th.

They must let the market react solely to the financial data for the entire day otherwise they risk being accused of manipulating the share price by a new product announcement.

A more likely scenario would have Apple update the notebooks after the event with little fanfare beyond a press release.

God, I wish. Then I could get rid of VMWare Fusion since all I ever use it for anymore is to use MS Paint.

You actually installed VMware Fusion plus a copy of Windows just to use the Paint program? How many paint programs are there out for the Mac? I can offer you a handful of very good ones and some are free. :p

Months of Tablet rumors leaks, and now they pop a "Come see our latest creation" tagline, if they dont release a tablet its gonna get ugly in their LOL.

Maybe its not paint but ink?

When I saw the picture, it made me think of ink spots, especially still in motion since they are dripping.

That makes me think the image is meant as a kind of shot at e-ink and all the other black & white/static e-reader/tablet forms announced at CES (and there was a lot of them). It says our creation (whatever it is called) has bright, full color, full motion screen.

That would highligth the simplest and most obvious difference between the new Apple device and what is pretty much the only tablet form factor that has gone main-stream at this point, and that's the Kindle.

Wow, one could cut the air with a knife. Honestly I don't think I can remember something soo hyped for soo long as the iSlate. Over a year now of constant rumours here on MR.

When this thing actually gets released all hell is going to break loose on the forums. Half the people will hate it and the other half will declare Steve the Messiah. Can't wait personally... :p

Read again. I said I am hoping there is SOMETHING for me on the 27th. I am not saying a tablet would replace my macbook. I did not buy the macbook late in the cycle. My girlfriend received one FOR FREE for her scholarship. I had a MBP 2.6 since it came out in JUNE 2009. We just traded. I now have the 2.8 + a 14 day return if i want to.

I'd expect some sort of special font/text such as the ink.
