It is going to look like an iMac when docked. Unclipped from the base the Tablet is an independent device. The docking station or base has the standard connector adaptors (USB, Firewire, Ethernet, etc). The Tablet connects to the base similar to what an iPod will to a docking station.

ipaint x (new addition to ilife x) will include artist lessons from world renowned artists for a small nominal fee like garage band does for music (requires tablet like garage band requires instruments). Now your kids can learn to play music and draw. Might also include iguide for indexing magazines and newspapers a la iphoto.

I'm in for that!

Don't forget they will bitch about

  • there is no bluray
  • it has a gloss screen
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Oh well, anyway best bits opinions so far on the imagery are
  • components/best parts from apples capabilities, creating the one :)
  • start up screen of tablet
  • bringing print media to life - colour (sorry brit here) ok color for you guys and gals too

Own idea is that its bringing all types of media together but is also a creative tool for creation there of.. thus Versatility :D

Oh come on all this is fun, at last some concrete news that there is an event, got to hand it to apple, for best PR win so far this year, even out did most folk at CES without actually doing much ;-)

Why not both creative and media consumption?

Why is it labeled as an "creative" event when all signs point to the tablet being a media consumption device?

Wouldn't a 10" multi-touch tablet ALSO make a wonderful input device for a regular computer? Picture it - a WACOM tablet that also displays the image you're working on live under your stylus/fingers. I'd find that much more useful than a traditional stylus input where the output (screen) is so far disconnected from the input (your hand).

On it's own it's a souped-up iPod / media machine. Combined with a Mac, it's a new input device too. Even if that's not the case, I'm betting such an App would be pretty cool.

MadCow.

My take:

1) the tablet gets announced (duh), along with iPhone OS 4.0
2) the 'latest creation' text and artistic slant of the invite hints towards the ability to create content, not just consume it - which will be tied to announcing a touch/tablet update to the iLife suite (and best case, iWork as well)
3) part of the updated iLife suite will include a touch-based drawing/paint/sketch/image app (almost like an Apple-branded mini-Photoshop)

Maybe I'm not too far off

I'm thinking it could be a new keyboard. Magic Keyboard to be exact. It only makes sense since they have a Magic Mouse. I think the whole tablet rumor was put out to keep all of us off the main focus of Magic Keyboard.

That would be the biggest letdown in Apple history. Everyone expecting a tablet and they get a glamorized keyboard. I highly doubt that will happen. Jobs would have a highly pissed off crowd on hand. I guess he could calms them all with some cozy keyboard socks.

Here is the full invite page for those who want to do more detective work...

My slate

slate offers new 'paint' interaction mode, which is a hybrid of finger touch and stylus touch.

pressure sensitive new 'soft' stylus allows for handwriting recognition as well as detailed paint-style controls for artists.

slate is clear glass in main appearance using that electronic glass frosting for opacity when in use -- also a neat way to share on-screen presentations, controllable from both sides and viewable (correct non-mirrored view) from selected side.

optional built in wifi or 3g, can use dedicated iphone tethering for that to save on base unit cost/contracts.

120 gig hd, usb and sd card slots.

uses smaller li-ion batteries (like compact cameras), removable for recharging.

dockable, similar to iphone/ipod docks, with usb or SD slots there (in place of actually on board) - less preferable to on-board, but possible.

runs limited adobe programs for on the go retouching/graphics and presentation.

mini dvi video out.

optional accessories set includes dedicated projector unit, vid conference camera pack, additional peripheral add-ons

base unit: (no wifi/3G) 120 SS HD/2G RAM 550.00
connectivity pack add on (3g/Airport card): 150.00
camera lack add on: 200.00
projector unit add on: 350.00

super slate pack: 160 SS HD/4G RAM with connectivity built in: 850

Not a tablet

Developers were reportedly asked to prepare their applications for high-definition display. AT&T reduced the cost of iPhone plans across the board only days ago. Google's iPhone has a HD screen. I'm thinking its OS 4.0 on a HD iPhone with better processor, potentially released mid-year - giving devs time to prepare. Or, a tablet :)

Actually, thread 500 (aka the 2001 iPod thread) is one of the most entertaining threads you will ever get to read on macrumors.

I have to second that...and people still think I am crazy when I say MS IS DEAD...so many pundits here :D

From a guy called EliteMacor:

It's now at the online Apple Store!

$400 for an Mp3 Player!

I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time...and it's not really functional.

Uuhh Steve, can I have a PDA now?

At least his wish is becoming true now :D

Maybe i'm reading into this too much but...

Has anyone noticed the splatters of paint overlap the edge of the box on the invitation logo? Kinda like the box represents the edge of the tablet/islate/canvas Maybe a hint to some 3D goodness?
