Steve?

And who will introduce it to the world, will it be Steve, or is that wishful thinking? It might be Phil perhaps, as he's the product development guy after all, but Steve on stage would be a good one though, for Steve, and for all those saying he's got one foot in the grave without anything to back it up besides a rumor..
:apple:

Yes, it will be a boring keynote: no Steve and no 2x res bump.

It's sad that the technologies exist but Apple isn't interested in using them, for the moment, just because of marketing... 2 months ago it was given for sure by reliable sources the 2x resolution screen. Also, what if Apple is sticking with a better A4 and no going A5 since the display doesn't need much power?

This is my killer feature, I'm not buying this year.

How do you know no Steve? He took a break from day to day operations... I don't see why that would exclude him from announcing a new product.

YES I CANNOT WAIT! I decided against getting the first gen. iPad ( a very tough decision) and NOW I can't wait to pre-order as soon as pre-orders become available! I can't wait!

:apple::D

Tag line is subtle, but I think it is fairly obvious it is leading - this is simply an announcement, and it's not coming out for sometime.

Praise the lord!

Pah-RAISE him indeed!

(Just paying it forward, from Arkitect's lolcat response. ;) )

Only one competitor has announced a better display and it's minor. 150ppi compared to the current 133ppi of the iPad1.

It's not just the hardware that makes the iPad great either... it's the entire package. As you probably know being an iPad1 owner.

Not sure which other tablet you mean, but Samsung is coming out with a 10" 1280x800 screen, and even if the resolution isn't too much of a difference, I don't want the Galaxy Tab cronies (as ethnic as they are) to gloat...

Only the ignorant think that. Just not possible with today's tech to deliver twice the resolution at the price points they have established.

Its quite possible given the capability of mobile GPU's. Also, its possible to offer the higher resolution screen at a higher price. This is the SAME thing that Apple has been doing for years. Remember the 17 MacBook Pro one came with a standard res and higher res screen at a higher price point? How about today, the 15 MacBook Pro comes in a standard resolution screen and a more expensive higher resolution screen.

Only those ignorant of Apples offering in the past would not see the possibility for offering two screen resolutions.

Mac Mini?

What do you all think about a new Mac Mini announcement? They are due for an upgrade.

Whoa!!! iPad 2, MBPs, Light Peak/Thunderbolt????? There's only so much they can do. Although iWork is due for a refresh...?????

Clearly, it will NOT be the year of good grammar.
:p

I realize (or at least hope) you're joking, but there's no such thing as "good" grammar--there's just an arbitrary standard, although on top of that we have such nonsense prescriptivist rules as the one you're mentioning. I mean, seriously, are they supposed to say "Come see of what 2011 will be the year"?

That being said, I'm really hoping for a FaceTime-capable camera on this device. It looks like they peeled just under halfway across the top, so maybe there's still hope. (Assuming that's an iPad; it could also be a giant nano. :))

It seems that Apple wouldn't have an event for just a speed bump and a thinner enclosure. I really think we'll see Retina in this thing. Hoping at least.

If you asked me earlier today about this I would have called you crazy. But with how large the iCal icon is, I feel like they might be hinting at a larger resolution. IDK. Maybe I am crazy. I don't even care about the Retina display but it makes me feel like it might happen.

That's it... the Xoon... I mean Xoom... it has a 150ppi rating. Not much to gloat over if you ask me... and if Apple just gives the iPad a bump, it could match that easily.

Retina (or 2x) just seems unrealistic from what I've read. Too many technical, production and cost barriers right now and I think Apple wants to make these as fast as they can and keep the cost down.

BTW... when the Xoom people gloat... remember their product starts at an estimate $800-$1000... no SRP yet announced.

iPad 2 needs to make all of the "I waited" people realize they messed up and could've been using an iPad for a year. Then after they buy anyway, iPad 3 hits in the fall and delivers all of the great updates...and then all the iPad 1 users upgrade. That would be best ever.

I'm 25% kidding at this point.

Good things come to those who wait. I am sorry you are bummed that you bought the iPad 1 with all the iPad 2 rumors coming to light. I am 100% serious.

Looking forward to seeing this event. Pretty certain I'll be skipping the iPad 2 (still loving my first gen iPad) My next big outlay is going to be a new MacBook Pro anyway.

I think the reason for the large icon is due to the fact it kind of matches the shape giving a flow, also it has a giant 2 on it for the date but it also symbolises the iPad 2. In otherwords its LOOK HERES THE NUMBER 2 YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! (no that is not toilet humor)

I think the retina display thing everyones banging on about is rediculous, the wallpaper has been on the iPad for ages now and is even shown on the Apple site. Its not a retina wallpaper its just a wallpaper... lol everyone starts stupid conspiracys and ideas around here.
