Is it me, or did these leaks make the new iphone's unveiling come quicker?

I can only hope for an early jailbreak; I need my DisplayOut (and now a different cable for HDMI output...) !!

Actually, calling it iPhone 5 defies logic. Since you know, it's the 6th one and since the fourth one was called the 4.
Yes, the fourth one was called 4 but more importantly the fifth one was called 4S so the next one will be called 5. It's that simple.

I wonder if the "5" is a misdirection of some kind. Maybe they have 5 things to announce between iPod, Macs and iPhone?

I struggle with the 6th generation iPhone, with an A6 processor, running iOS 6 and 4G LTE being called the iPhone 5. With all those numbers floating around it seems like a marketing nightmare. I would have gone with "The new iPhone" -- unless Apple feels like doing that with the iPad caused confusion.

I can see it now. They start the show off with a big 666 on the screen and they spin down to show iphone6 A6 ios6.

This is not an original thought, but...

While it's obvious that the invitation does show a '5' in shadow, clearly. I think ultimately that's just a non sequitur to grab attention and spurn discussion for the next 7 days.

It would seem to me that Apple will most definitely just call this new iPhone "the new iPhone" and not affix a number to it.

Except that market will focus on the common consumer that is completely oblivious to all those numbers. So iPhone 5 will make perfect sense to them. Stop thinking geek-centric and think common people around the world.

Did you struggle with the fact that the 5th generation iPhone, with an A5 processor running iOS 5 was and still is called the iPhone 4S? Well, maybe you did but I'm pretty certain that even you are okay with it by now...

It's one thing for fellow forum members to rub it in others' faces but when the website's administration steps in and joins the "I told you so!" crowd, as Arn has so subtly done, I find it to be a little tasteless. -- While bloggers typically aren't held up to the same standards of professionalism that real journalists are, there is a level of unbiased reporting that's expected regardless. After all, this is MacRumors, not Gizmodo.

With that said, I'm surprised Apple did go with the "iPhone 5" name considering this is the 6th generation iPhone, running on iOS 6. I expected them to drop numerical suffix as was done with the iPad.

I thought Arn handled it very tastefully. I think you're upset because there's a little butt hurt going on.

So, anyway, we'll have another 7 days of the iPhone 6 Luddites arguing that the "5" shadow means something entirely different.... *yawn

That 5

I know I'm going to be crucified for this, but I honestly don't think the 5 is referring to the name "iPhone 5." I think they're releasing 5 products: an iPhone and some combination of new iPods, Macs, or the small iPad. Here's why:

1. The 5 will screw with those of us who are nerdy enough to be on a MacRumors forum.

2. (Here's where I get crucified) Apple is a logical company. They gave the iPhone 4 its name because it was the fourth generation iPhone (after the iPhone, 3G, and 3GS). The 4S is the fifth generation. It follows that they would call this the iPhone 6, or some other name. My money's on The New iPhone though, because otherwise the iPhone line would be the only one with a weird numbering system, which, in my opinion, isn't Apple's style. Not that I'm an expert, just my thoughts.

3. The iPod lineup and the iMac are waaaaaaaay outdated.

4. They have our attention now, don't they?

Of course, I may have put my foot in my mouth and I'll be completely wrong September 12, but that's my guess.

But in the end, it's just the name of a phone. :p

It clearly says:

"It's almost here." NOT "They're almost here."

Not 5 products.

Pretty sure they wouldn't tease the 5 so heavily if they were introducing 5 new things. Just sayin.

Just for fun can we get a list formed of all the people who were absolutely sure it would be iPhone 6 and didn't shut up about it? Just for fun of course :D

well looks like it's not going to be "The New iPhone" Like the iPad... I hope ALL the rumors are wrong about how the phone looks. But what do I care I'm getting a SG Note II

Hmm... Good point. I simultaneously take back my statement and play devil's advocate and say "it's" is referring to the date.

I was just stirring the pot guys. Geez.

Isn't the naming convention like a car?

A BMW 3 series for example, has various incarnations, so does the iPhone.

So we've had:

iPhone.
iPhone 3G (3 Series).
iPhone 3GS (still the 3 series).
iPhone 4 (4 Series).
iPhone 4S (still the 4 series).

And now the iPhone 5 (5 series).

It's a series range, not a specific model number relating to which specific version it is mathematically.

The new product is called iPhone 4G.

The shadow in a inverted lower case "g" (think about it - the shadows are always inverted of the real objects)

iPhone 4g is called because it works on the 4G LTE network.

My 2 cents.
