iPhone 4s (3.5)
iPhone 4s CDMA (4)
New iPhone (5)
Yes, the fourth one was called 4 but more importantly the fifth one was called 4S so the next one will be called 5. It's that simple.Actually, calling it iPhone 5 defies logic. Since you know, it's the 6th one and since the fourth one was called the 4.
I wonder if the "5" is a misdirection of some kind. Maybe they have 5 things to announce between iPod, Macs and iPhone?
I struggle with the 6th generation iPhone, with an A6 processor, running iOS 6 and 4G LTE being called the iPhone 5. With all those numbers floating around it seems like a marketing nightmare. I would have gone with "The new iPhone" -- unless Apple feels like doing that with the iPad caused confusion.
I was wondering the same. My guess: Not a chance in Hell.
After looking at the image again it kind of does look like a 5 but still doesn't mean anything at all.

Did you struggle with the fact that the 5th generation iPhone, with an A5 processor running iOS 5 was and still is called the iPhone 4S? Well, maybe you did but I'm pretty certain that even you are okay with it by now...I struggle with the 6th generation iPhone, with an A6 processor, running iOS 6 and 4G LTE being called the iPhone 5. It's one thing for fellow forum members to rub it in others' faces but when the website's administration steps in and joins the "I told you so!" crowd, as Arn has so subtly done, I find it to be a little tasteless. -- While bloggers typically aren't held up to the same standards of professionalism that real journalists are, there is a level of unbiased reporting that's expected regardless. After all, this is MacRumors, not Gizmodo.
With that said, I'm surprised Apple did go with the "iPhone 5" name considering this is the 6th generation iPhone, running on iOS 6. I expected them to drop numerical suffix as was done with the iPad.
I know I'm going to be crucified for this, but I honestly don't think the 5 is referring to the name "iPhone 5." I think they're releasing 5 products: an iPhone and some combination of new iPods, Macs, or the small iPad. Here's why:
2. (Here's where I get crucified) Apple is a logical company. They gave the iPhone 4 its name because it was the fourth generation iPhone (after the iPhone, 3G, and 3GS). The 4S is the fifth generation. It follows that they would call this the iPhone 6, or some other name. My money's on The New iPhone though, because otherwise the iPhone line would be the only one with a weird numbering system, which, in my opinion, isn't Apple's style. Not that I'm an expert, just my thoughts.
It clearly says:
"It's almost here." NOT "They're almost here."
Not 5 products.
Pretty sure they wouldn't tease the 5 so heavily if they were introducing 5 new things. Just sayin.
