Apple Issues Invitations for Media Event on September 12

Is nobody seeing that the "it's almost here" refers to turn-by-turn direction as their key feature? Like the "let's talk iPhone" was all about siri last year....
"The New iPhone" - just like with the iPad and just like they do not number their iPods, Macs or anything else for that matter.

Please... there are lots of MR members that care. Didn't you see the number of "it's going to be iPhone 6.... It's the 6th gen so it will be iPhone 6.... all of you idiots calling it iPhone 5 are stupid, it's the 6th generation ect ect.
Of coure the non mentally slow have been calling it the iPhone 5. Some because it was a simply a place holder for the next iPhone, others because they thought it would be called iPhone 5 (like me).
I am also going to steal your bottom line down there. I don't understand why people feel the need to list all theri devices like it really matters. I guess some people put it there to make it easier for those to know what device thay may be speaking about in any given thread but it just seems like if that was the case they would simply put what device they have in the post. I will give you credit though
It's almost unbelievable that even after the Apple invitation with the big 5 on it people still question the name iPhone 5.
Apple has to call it iPhone 5 instead of just iPhone because otherwise they would have to call next year's iPhone an iPhone S which everyone understands (or at least should understand) would not make any sense at all given the history of iPhone model names. And notice that with iPads there are no S models so there's no such naming issues.
I have to file myself in the camp of people who are surprised by the "5". I was really expecting "The new iPhone", or about anything other than iPhone 5.
That being said, if it were to have NFC (which has pretty much been ruled out at this point) I think a great tagline instead of "It's almost here" would have been "So close."

I hear ya, brother. Kickin' it old school over here with the FIRST generation of the iPhone! iOS 3.x! But still, you're probably pulling your hair more than I am, ha ha.
Just because you don't want the device doesn't mean it won't be released. It's coming, deal with it.
Who said anything about wanting? Did you read what I said? Something is definitely coming, but iPad mini is a mislabel.
What WILL happen:
-Apple announces a breakthrough device next Wednesday and showcases 16, 32, and 64 GB models all with an aluminum backing and glass-encased front plastic panel (white or black), they'll also say it is roughly as thin as the current generation iPod Touch and back it up with numbers. There will be a two-tone back, but only up top (black plastic area to allow for radio transmissions similar to iPad + 4G). Everyone will complain how ugly it is and then not even remember after they put their precious otter box case on it.
-Camera improvement: At least 9 MP, probably 10. Better auto-focus and optics.
-SOC is updated: A6 perhaps? And quad-core for sure. If not that, then at least quad-core graphics.
- <= 4" Display: There's no arguing this. It's a definite.
-Dock connector will in fact change to about 8-10 pins to accomodate new form and design. Go ahead, everyone: cry. They'll make adapters.
-4G standard: Across the board with all carriers.
-Much better Siri integration (yea remember her?): This will be announced out of beta stage and opened up to developers with new APIs.
-And of course, that "One More Thing" that Apple is notorious for: Something totally out of the ball park that sets this update apart from any other. LikeSiri was for the 4S. Apple will have to add that one thing that makes people go from "Eh, I can live with my current iPhone" to "Holy balls, I gotta have that!".

-NFC communication: Not this soon, anyway.
-Taller form factor: It will become wider to fit the new screen, not taller.
-New headphones: Like I've said so far, unless they have to in order to accomodate the new design, this will not get an overhaul.
