It's funny that most of the people who think it would be weird to call it an iPhone 5 say so (and most do NOT suggest that it be called the iPhone 6). But others (who think it should be the 6) resort to name calling and want the other people to be wrong.

Even if I'm wrong, I still will think it will be weird.

Gary

It all goes by the number....

We need a down vote button. At this point we don't know anything so why don't we all shut up and just wait until the 12th lol

LOL. Don't flatter yourself. if that was the case..you would of been banned for having too many down votes.

The way the number 5 is revealed by the shadow of 12 is very very clever. This is Apple promotion at it's best. :)

Seriously guys.

The 5 could potentially represent 5 new products 3 iPods, iMac and the iPhone all being updated...

Ah funny people jumping up and down saying it's official is going to be called the iPhone 5. It hasn't even been announced yet!

No way will it be called the 5. Regardless of namings it's still the 6th phone.

I think you're looking at this from the wrong perspective.

You need to look at it from a marketing point of view.

If you were to stop x amount of people in the street and ask them how many iPhones there have been, I think the majority of them would say 4 and that's why I think Apple will simply keep it simple and market it as either the iPhone 5, or the new iPhone to keep it nice and simple for people who, when asked what phone they have, will be able to answer with a title that clearly states they've got the very latest model.

Well its going to be the 5 year anniversary of the iphone so i guess it symbols celebration as well.
"It's almost here" is a little worrying because in a way it says that all these leaks are true and we know you are waiting for this slightly tall ip.
If it would have been more like "you have seen nothing yet"now thats interesting

Apple is jerking your chains, all you iPhone 5 guys. It won't be called the 5.

It will be released on October 5.

Or they have 5 items they are releasing

You just killed the child inside me that was jumping in joy and going "iPhone 5!!! TAKE THAT YA'LL WHO SAID IT WOULDN'T BE CALLED THE 5!!"

Oh well.. .___.

Well they used that with the 4..and we basically saw how the 4 looked like..so there wasn't much of a surprise there lol.

I think..they went with "It's almost here" to make it more suspenseful! =D

If the new Iphone looks like what we've seen on all those sites, they should call it the Iphone 4 L (L for long and 4 for lack of new design).
It would have to be the iPhone 4LSHBNDCTTNGBNSSGRLTE (Long, smaller home button, new doc connector, two-tone [non-glass] back, nano sim, speaker grille redesign, LTE).

If you completely overlook all those things, it does somewhat resemble an iPhone 4 and 4S. But with all those letters, it's no wonder they shortened it to iPhone 5.

What is common sense about the 6th gen iPhone being named the iPhone 5?

YOU call it 6th generation, not Apple. iPhone "1" (the 2g you know..) and iPhone 3G were the same except baseband chip.
Remember the last presentation?
iPhone 4(!!)S, all other people except nerds like you expect iPhone 5.
Better check you common sense.

Aside from the shadow, what other clues are the conspiracy theorists going to obsess over for the next week?

I dunno... I'm waiting for some nonsense about how "two become one" or something, because the TWO digits for 12 are casting a single shadow, meaning somehow that... (insert insanity here)...

I never expected them to call it iPhone 6, but I wouldn't have cared either way. Seems like they set the precedent with 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, though... lol.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

I am laughing at all the people who said it wouldn't be iPhone 5 ha ha ha ha ha ha

That will teach you to keep your mouth shut

Can every hyper-righetous nut who ranted about how only idiots think the next iPhone will be called iPhone 5 be named and shamed? Maybe their description could turn from "macrumors regular" to "scientologist"?

Just so you know, nothing has been confirmed regarding the name of the new iPhone. This is not confirmation.

For the record, I have never commented on possible iPhone names, before I get any grief for this comment.
