People have different needs. If I didn't need to read pdf docs the iPad mini would totally trump iPad 3 as long as it is retina. For my purposes (reading books, browsing the internet in bed, etc.) the iPad mini would be a better size because it would be lighter and easier to hold/carry around in my purse.

I guess that's because not much else can be said about it now. We already know it will be released this month, probably on the launch day of the iPad mini.

I'm tapped out for apple products this year. Just updated the mini last year and have the new ipad and iPhone 5. I'm good to go for a while. But good luck to everyone else in getting what they want out of this announcement.

I am really excited for this event like most are. I have yet to purchase a tablet. I have been waiting for a tablet to be released that suits my needs and likes. If this iPad mini has the features I have been looking for I will buy it. Personally, what always drove me away from the iPad was the size. I always thought it was a bit too big for me. However, this iPad looks to be the right size I want. Hoping, apple delivers next week with the media event.

Clearly the word "little" was chosen to suggest that they'll be announcing a smaller iPad.

What isn't so obvious is that they're actually going to be mixing that word into the name of the new, smaller iPad:

the lil'iPad, pronounced "lily pad"

I think the iPad mini and Macbook Pro 13" Retina are definitely going to be the focus of this event (Captain obvious). iPhone and iPad stats and sales, possibly some small iOS updates and maybe education?

I also think (as much as people don't like to hear it) Mac Mini and iMac will be quiet spec bumps (IF they even get updated that is). Given the way Apple's been handling things these past few years, it's pretty clear they're moving more forward with their mobile devices. The desktops haven't seen a media event update in a long time.

It's all relative to a user's need. I don't think "downgrade" is accurate. It's a more of an inter-Apple sidegrade.

iPad Mini with various memory, connectivity, and colors(matching with new iPod line)

new Mac Mini with better processor, better i/o, more memory

new iMac retina display, better processor, memory, and storage, slimmer design, better i/o, available in different configurations of screen size and power

Macbook Pro 13 inch with retina display

all of these things, along with new iPods and iPhone 5 will lead into a great holiday season for Apple that will shatter records
