I think we're stuck with Schiller until Jobs decides to introduce something evolutionary.

Possibly, I think Jobs is OK for the fact he doesn't need to be on the spotlight at all times, but at the same time he might miss the fact he is not on the spotlight at all times.:)
Maybe after the surgery, his priorities changed and he is passing the torch or taking easy on his role at Apple. Who knows?
I would welcome though he on this special event.

I'm assuming MacRumors as usual wasn't invited?

It's a pity, you guys always do the best live feeds for these events. Just the facts without all the sarcastic douchebaggery that Engadget and Giz give us.

Predictions:

(1) iTunes 9 - 64 bit / social features
(2) Cocktail - possibly
(3) iPod Touch - 3gs chipset and Video Camera w/ mic...no GPS (next year), at 16/32/64 gig capacities
(4) iPod Nano - Larger screen w/ Video Camera, 16/32 gig capacities
(5) iPod Classic - Same design, possible Camera as well, 120 gig unless a 160 is available
(6) Apple TV 3.0 + new Hardware

No Beatles. No Tablet.

Oh. There will be Beatles. Maybe not a huge production made about their availability...but they will be in the iTunes store on 9.9.09.

I do think the rest of your predictions are spot on.

besides the new iPods and possibly new iTunes, I would love Apple to bring a new hardware/software revision for AppleTV.

1080p
support external drives
more codec support
faster processors

Would be very welcome. Do it Apple! :D

If Apple makes iTunes Intel only they are removing a good 20-30% of their market.

I suppose the PPC people could keep the older version of iTunes and not have all the new bells and whistles that come with a new iTunes.

This is one thing that is not going to happen (at least not for a while). Same goes for Safari which unlike the rest of Snow Leopard runs on both. I also expect Quicktime X to be released at this event to the public.

VLC-like codec and file-type support for iTunes would be the best update I could personally ask for. I rip all my DVDs as .AVI (I prefer the file type) and if I want to put it on my iPhone, I have to convert it. Just opening it in iTunes would be great.

PLEASE APPLE.

What would suck is if Apple releases iTunes 9 that only has support for Intel and the new Touch only supports iTunes 9 and the only mac I have access to is PPC.

Well the rumor mill got the date right then. It looks like we're just seeing the iPods and other music related stuff. I reckon no tablet until the next event. Hopefully we'll see Jobs doing the announcing.

I reckon there is an outside chance of seeing some Apple TV enhancements too.

I don't think it's as high as 20%-30%. Apple market share really took off after the Intel switch. If they do this there will be a lot of people pissed but it would be for the better. I get the feeling though that Apple will just add more bloat in iTunes 9 and wait until iTunes X for the significant change.

Now what's the betting that;

1) MacRumors publishes a picture of what could be the next iPod nano

2) A vast majority of people dislike the design

3) The event happens and the leaked image was real

4) A few days later, that 'vast majority' turn to love the design after all.

After all, that's been the pattern for the past two years.

You said it, Joban.

Damn Straight.

"Begin the day with a friendly voice..."

The next iPod Event Tagline...that would be sick! Seen them nine times. The only two bands that can compete with them live are Marillion and Dream Theater.
