hummm.....
Look, I like Rush but best of all time? I think you are out on this one:

1- The Beatles
2- Led Zeppelin
3- Rolling Stones
4- The Who
5- U2
etc.
Not sure if Rush even make the top ten. But for sure top 16.
Cheers!;)

Could we please focus on the original post and not get into these subjective posts about music.

Thanks!

(BTW Rush and The Beatles are not on my list-see how lame this reply is)

The tagline basically confirms that it's iPod/Itouch centric and we will not be seeing the Rumored tablets..

Definitely no tablet at this event. Probably not till next year as predicted. I also don't expect Steve. Even though he probably could do it, I don't expect it. Apple doesn't want their stock price tied to every blip in Steve's health, and they finally broke through that barrier last year. I don't think they want to reestablish it.

It doesn't matter today or a year from now. The HD based iPod is going away. Chances are they will introduce 64GB iPods this year and next year may be 128GB. Also Apple probably would rather have these people buying apps off the App Store.

^ if SD is cheap enough next year then we will see the end of the nano and classic.

More like 8gb iPod Touch nano , 16-32gb iPod Touch 4.3" screen, 64-128GB iPod Touch 5"+ screen.

Doubt it. QTX is one of the few features added in SL. I don't think they will port it to Tiger/Leopard/Windows anytime soon, if at all.

Is it just me, or does QTX suck? I re-associated all my files to QuickTime 7 Pro. I need customizations and preferences, and QTX just has nothing to offer me that QT7P already has, or am I missing out on something?

although i think :apple:tv needs a complete overhaul with a subscription model, i don't think it will happen at this event. apple is pretty transparent when it comes to naming an event, and there is no mention of tv/movies. only of music. there could be a 'one more thing', but there hasn't been in a while so i really doubt that.

why would anyone buy the Beatles on ITunes? anyone who listens to them probably already has them on CD

...except for the "download generation" that doesn't buy CDs.

I'm old enough (bah) to remember the "excitement" over the Beatles on CD. That was about 17-18 years after they broke up. It was my first year in college. IIRC they only released a few albums at a time rather than the entire catalog at once. I never knew the Beatles as a actively playing band, yet I bought Abbey Road, the White Album, and a compilation of their very early stuff.

A lot of the Beatles stuff is timeless and will do well as singles on iTunes. There is a whole new generation that isn't all that familiar with the Beatles. Hey look, Elvis is older than the Beatles and he does just fine on iTunes.

That said, there will be no Beatles announcement. The invitation makes that pretty clear.

Clearly no Tablet at the music event. But I'm not crossing this entire year out. Apple still has to do its annual Oct computer event. A tablet would be a huge holiday seller. But if its not in Oct then it'll probably wait until Feb or March when the laptops are generally refreshed.

Just a pure guess...

Steve won't show up till he has a tablet in his hand.

Please, please, please...an :apple:TV hardware and software update!?! Even though the only thing I plan on doing with it is streaming my iTunes stuff off my MP to watch on my big screen, I'm always game for something shiny and new.

Possibly true.
The only reason I have hope for AppleTV at this event is because iTunes might get an update, New technologies on Snow Leopard and Quicktime might finally pave the way for a new software and hardware for AppleTV.
We'll see. But I agreed that at this point the main focus seems to be on iTunes and iPod with this invitation.

AppleTV does tie in with itunes so it is likely that they will update it.

If so, i guess it really is time to upgrade my powerbook :(

Considering they are still making the latest Safari available for Tiger, I strongly doubt iTunes 9 would be Snow Leopard only. Remember, they have iTunes on windows too, so the technology can't be completely tied to new frameworks in Snow Leopard.

I predict iTunes 9 will work on PPC/Intel Leopard, and maybe even on Tiger.

Flash-Only! Do it!

I've been saying this since the first touch was announced... what were they thinking with flash memory???

As a former Creative that had to service the Genius Bar on occasion, I'll be plenty glad once they ditch platter drives for good. So many people came in with clicking drives it was ridiculous. The main reason for this is that most people don't realize you can't go running/jogging/etc. with an iPod classic, you'll eff the HD. As Apple's iPod/iPhone market-share increases and as the health/exercise move to the forefront, this becomes a primary concern. Certainly the iPod shuffle's sales alone should be evidence of the correlation between iPod sales and exercising.

I will admit, we're at a tough place because 128GB of flash, which would be the first real replacement for a Classic, is still moderately pricey.

We'll see next week, though!

Can a company as large as Apple keep anything secret?

Why do they try? (I know why I'm just saying it would be easier if they didn't have the cloak and dagger stuff)

Because it wouldn't be half as much fun. Admit it. You love times like these, the rumours and the speculation.

Now what's the betting that;

1) MacRumors publishes a picture of what could be the next iPod nano

2) A vast majority of people dislike the design

3) The event happens and the leaked image was real

4) A few days later, that 'vast majority' turn to love the design after all.

After all, that's been the pattern for the past two years.

That's been going on for more than 2 years...

Excuse me if my question sounds a bit dumb and naive, but what is the big deal with iTunes 64 bit?
Would it work faster? Use less memory? Someone enlighten me please.
What are the advantages of iTunes being 64 bit vs 32 bit?

I know one of the biggest advantages on the OS is to be able to address more memory (RAM), but not sure what the advantage is on the apps themselves.

Thanks.

Generally speaking I've found that carbon apps tend to run more sluggishly than cocoa apps on Intel machines.

maybe we will see weird ipod commercials with 1950's music!

we need to see an itunes commerical like

the "viva la vida" one!

in may 2008, during american idol :D

IMO, the new dell commercial is much more interesting than the billions of iPhone ads which just talk about apps...

I can't help but wonder if we will see a larger touch. No change in functionality over whatever upgrades the smallers ones have, but just a bigger screen. Same pixel dimensions, just easier to handle and easier on the eyes for the smaller stuff.
Larger type with lower resolution is just as easy to read from a greater distance as smaller higher resolution type is close up. Only you don't need to hold it 10 inches from your face. A 6" screen would be perfect.
This will just tease everyone with the idea of a tablet but nothing else will be said about the tablet until sometime early next year. The speculation will continue.
