Is Steve Jobs trying to kill the iPad in its first run? First confirmation the price will go down in short order and now this? Why would anyone buy the first run now?
Some people can afford to get both. I guess I'm one of those people, but I plan on not getting the first.

Why would anyone buy the first run now?

Charity ? Blind devotion ? Desperate need for attention in the subway ? There are plenty of possible explanations... :D

Just kidding... :D

I am actually buying one because I don't need a full laptop and my actual laptop is dying. iPad fits my needs as it is now... camera would be a bonus... for my mother... she would harrass (is the spelling right ?) me all day to videochat...

EDIT: also buying because I don't have cash for a Macbook... but just enough for the iPad... and I want to stay in the Apple family.

I don't believe the price will go down in short order. That's all speculation from dunderheads looking at the price drop of the original iPhone without realizing that the original iPhone had a lot of room for the price to drop. The iPad may have some sort of subsidy/contract deal, or if it doesn't sell well at all the price may drop, but remember Apple got a lot of heat for dropping the price of the iPhone and ended up giving even first day buyers partial refunds.

And the camera?

The iPad will not ship with a camera. The iPad may get a storage bump sometime during the year, and of course new apps will come out for it. That's it.

I wouldn't look at it getting a camera until video chat becomes available on the iPhone and the iPod touch gets a camera as well. At best, the iPad won't have a camera until next year.

So some people will wait a year. However, if an iPad fits your lifestyle, buy it now. Sell it in a year, and the price difference should be worth the value that you got out of it during the year. That's who's going to buy it.

This may just be they are back filling a position because a QA engineer is quitting...

I am one of those who is quite disappointed at the lack of a camera.

Come on guys, you know what's going to happen.

IPAD WITH WIFI: no camera.

IPAD 3G: CAMERA!

This is pretty obvious. It doesnt take 2 extra month to put a 3g chip in it.

IPOD AND IPHONE. Same thing.

perhaps to add 1:1 motion detection to the isight! To had a new feature for the "natal" style hand gesture control.

Apple Job Posting Suggests Video Recording Coming to Future iPad Models

Recent keynote suggests otherwise :(

Frankly, we are not even at a camera yet. Let's not push it, videocamera is way too revolutionary for Apple.

I bet that Steve Jobs secretly thinks that the latest invention called 'radio' is just a bag of hurt.

I’m sure you’re being sarcastic but on my iPhone AND MacBook Pro I can listen to any radio station anywhere in the world. Makes a “radio” seem outdated.

I think the term “revolutionary” is exactly what Apple is. Especially in marketing.

Hey Mates

I am wondering if the lawsuit Kodak has filed against Apple caused them to pull the camera?

As the ipad is not a phone and could be taken as a photograph device if it shipped.

Regs,
Jacko

Interesting point. RIM was also included in the lawsuit- Kodak was targeting Apple's camera usage in phones.

Look, I'm not criticizing. I'm just curious. With all this news of what will happen coming out before the actual release will cause a lot of on-the-fence buyers to wait it out. IMHO, it would have been better to keep these plans secret.

If the camera has any kind of geotagging that utilizes the cell tower the FCC would need to know.

Apple added geotagging via a software update. I don't think the FCC messes with cameras.
From Wikipedia
"The Act furthermore provides that the FCC was created "for the purpose of the national defense" and "for the purpose of promoting safety of life and property through the use of wire and radio communications."
