I don’t think macOS is the answer either. Start with multi profile support and a better file system. Limit it to the pro if you need to justify it somehow.
Here’s an honest question for all of those who found themselves not using a 12.9-inch iPad Pro… was it because of the limitations of any and all iPads and iPadOS… or because it was a 12.9-inch model?Mine just laid around. Decided to trade it in and get a Best Buy card for it during holidays while it’s still worth something. Can’t see any more iPads in this house. Not even the kids want these.
I didn't know that. I wonder what financial reason is behind that? Protecting the laptops and Apple TV?Did you know that, for M1 and M2 iPads, Apple purposely disables 4K HDMI output by software? It only supports 4k external displays output on thuderbolt capable monitors. iOS limits HDMI monitors to 1080p.
And yet, you have no proofs while most of us are complaining. For you.
You’re making a blanket statement for everyone that mainly applies to you and your usage.
Don't really need new iPhone or Mac iterations every year either.Maybe because you really don't need a new iPad iteration every year.
Most of you? This is macrumors. You guys complaining is not indicative of the average apple user. And yet, you have no proofs while most of us are complaining.
If only average users aren't complaining, then it's already proves that iPad series is only good for normal people which is why iPad series need to be minimized and remove iPad Pro from blocking Mac to make tablet style. Most of you? This is macrumors. You guys complaining is not indicative of the average apple user.
the average apple user is not on macrumors, so there's your proof.

I ask because I had a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and found it too heavy when using it in any orientation other than on a table or desk with a keyboard. I traded it in on a 14-inch MacBook Pro - but found myself never using that at all.
When I have heavy lifting to do, I prefer a desktop - iMacs for a long time and now a Mac Studio. I find pretty much everything else I can do on a 10.9 or 11-inch iPad. If the new iPad Airs and Pros really do improve in terms of capability, I could be tempted to try a 12.9 or 13-inch model again.
you are worried about it blocking Mac for your niche needs/desires.remove iPad Pro from blocking Mac to make tablet style.
iPad series are just bigger version of iPhone. Why better treatments?you are worried about it blocking Mac for your niche needs/desires.
An ipad is more than just a bigger iPhone.iPad series are just bigger version of iPhone. Why better treatments?
And that's all. You just agree that iPad series have limited uses. Clearly, that's why iPad did not sold for several years. An ipad is more than just a bigger iPhone.
1. I can use my iPad for reading documents/books which is better than my iphone 15 pro max and certainly more comfortable than Mac
2. Watching movies and videos in better than my iPhone and in bed, better than Mac.
3. Drawing is way better on iPad than a Mac and for my work i do for school, it is easier to use my iPad than a Mac which is far heavier and less easy to port around.
4. If you have a Mac Studio, an iPad works better as a secondary screen for it with a keyboard and mouse.
An iPad and Macbooks do have overlaps yes but there are people who prefer iPads over Macs. If you are a heavy power user, I recommend a Macbook anyday. If you are a moderate user who is heavy into media consumption with some productivity I recommend an iPad.
I can do most things I want on my iPad that I can on my mac but maybe not as seamless but i dont feel like I am missing out using my ipad but I dont get the same ease of use with my Mac that I do with my ipad when I am wanting to lay in bed or if I am in class/work handling things.
iPad has sold well (Certainly more than Android tablets). And that's all. You just agree that iPad series have limited uses. Clearly, that's why iPad did not sold for several years.
You too? Especially since that was my first time purchasing an iPad. Since I usually keep tech for awhile I buy the latest. But that was bogus, a year in between releases is normal. It did last for quite some time at least.I still can’t forgive Apple for brining the iPad 4 out 7 months after the iPad 3.

Yeah. I think the problem was the iPad 3 had overheating issues. My wife used hers for 5 years before she got the Pro 10.5 and she used it for awhile after that for games for her nephews and nieces.I think I remember that. They were calling it "The New iPad" ?
Price has a lot to do with it because as you point out, it doesn’t do many of the things the Mac can do while the stylus is a niche use case. That presents a value problem.Thing is the iPad Pro has a better screen, can be used to draw on with the pencil, etc. The keyboard, whilst expensive is replaceable at least if damaged and third party options exist. Or if you don't want the keyboard you can omit it. Can't option "no keyboard" with a Mac.
Convertible 2 in 1 PCs are normallymore expensive than laptops, and they don't have superior screens normally.
The problem with the iPad Pro (especially the 12.9) isn't the price. The problem is the limitations of iPadOS at that price point. If I could actually run all the things I can on a MacBook Air on an iPad Pro I'd buy the iPad Pro at a $300-500 premium in a heartbeat.
But you can't. Hopefully Apple continue to get closer to that, because in terms of form factor and capabilities the iPad has a lot to offer, if only we didn't have to give up so much.
Apple are in the situation that Steve Jobs had no issue with, but seems they are hesitating on:
The MacBook Air and iPad are in a very similar space and it feels that they're being artificially limited in order to keep both devices. Steve had no issue with cannibalisation, but seems like the current team do.
Give iPadOS some more flexibility, kill the MacBook Air and replace with the iPad lineup. The lines are getting increasingly blurry, but it seems Apple are intentionally not doing this in order to try and sell two products to everyone instead of one to a lot of users.
At the moment it's working because the PC tablet market is so lacklustre (mostly intel and Microsoft's fault), but eventually they'll have to do this - or somebody else will do a good job of it instead.
Totally agree that iPad OS, the artificial limitations driven by greed/fear of cannibalization, incompetent competition, and Apple’s inability to innovate all add up to a stagnant tablet/hybrid market that should be far ahead of laptops by now, which is what Steve envisioned. His two greatest failures were hiring John Sculley and promoting Tim Cook.
I wouldn’t say it’s niche at all. The amount of businesses I see using iPads is far from niche. Anytime i go into a phone store they are using iPads for transaction.while the stylus is a niche use case.
Putting those two in the same sentence is harsh. His two greatest failures were hiring John Sculley and promoting Tim Cook.
