Apple today increased device prices dramatically across multiple product lines.

After temporarily taking it down earlier today, Apple's online store is back up with a series of product price increases. The changes are as follows:

  • HomePod mini: $129, up from $99
  • iPad Air: $749, up from $599
  • iPad Pro: $1,199, up from $999
  • MacBook Neo: $699, up from $599
  • MacBook Air: $1,299, up from $1,099
  • MacBook Pro: $1,999 up from $1,699
  • Mac Studio (M4 Max): $2,499, up from $1,999
  • Mac Studio (M3 Ultra): $5,299, up from $3,999
  • Vision Pro: $3,699 up from $3,499

Last week, Apple announced that it was preparing to raise prices across its product lineup, with CEO Tim Cook confirming that that the move was inevitable. Cook made the announcement in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, citing the soaring cost of memory and storage chips. "Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable," he said. "We're doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we've been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable." Cook described the scale of the memory shortage as a "hundred-year flood," adding, "I've never seen anything like it in any area in over 40 years."

Apple has historically absorbed component cost swings rather than passing them on to customers, so this marks a notable shift in approach.

Homepod mini price is ridiculous.

This isn’t a money grab. Apple held out longer than most companies. You want to place blame, blame AI.
Yes, if you think these prices are bad, look at gaming laptops. Mine has literally doubled in price if I were to buy it today. Apple, honestly, is probably still subsidizing these (especially on the low end of things), which should honestly be commended.

Heck they left the iPhone line completely the same for now. Impressive.

Big money grab, just like the oil companies:
Prices rise like a rocket and fall like a feather...
If this was a pure money grab they wouldn’t have priced the MacBook Neo so low back in March only to raise it a few short months later. It’s clear the current pricing for products became quickly untenable. Is Apple looking to preserve its margins? Absolutely. But no company selling in this volume wants to raise its prices this dramatically if it doesn’t have to. Sales and PR take a meaningful hit when numbers go up like this.

The Neo with tax is now almost $1100 Canadian here in Ontario. Bought an M4 MacBook Air in October, $1580 here with taxes, it's now $2032 after taxes for the M5.... These prices are getting ridiculous, I don't even want to imagine how much phones will go up. Going to have to keep everything longer now.

The WSJ article also mentioned a) Micron reported “blowout quarterly earnings” and b) conversations with “large customers” about the inability to invest ahead when large customers were flexing their might to get bargain basement prices.

The good news is that iPhone prices have not gone up. My 17 Pro Max purchased last year was $1999. Same price as of today.

Not sure, but it looks like the only products affected are Mac’s
