Well, we all knew this was coming.
I was toying with the idea of a new MBA M5 on sale last month (999 EUR) but despite the expected price increase I decided against it. My M1 MBA is still running so extremely well. I honestly can't tell much of a difference between this and my maxed out M4 at work. There's always Black Friday I guess. 😉

Please keep us up to date on how well Microsoft is keeping your old hardware alive. I have several perfectly functional laptops in my house where I cannot legally reinstall any working Windows version anymore. From the ashes into the fire.
Wow. So many people commenting on what has been forecast for more than eight months now. In two to three years, when there is a glut of inventory and it causes cratering prices (and company bankruptcies)—which has always happened in this industry and will happen again—is each of you going to be exercised in the same way?
Just keep your current/old items for longer. Or buy used. Or accept right now these are the current/new price increases that every electronics manufacturer will be passing on. It will ease your stress levels if you pick one of these. This isn’t the same thing as the cost of milk. Or gas. Or homes. I saw two comments about legislating away the ability of Apple (and others in this industry) to raise their prices. Slow-the-eff down my socialist buddies. You really aren’t thinking this through.
This isn’t direct commentary on the proposals to alter or reduce the AI frenzy. There are prudent things society can and should do there. But that is a wholly different approach from centralizing the economy to the point where we want government minions examining if price increases to the iPad Air meet this or that legal definition of price-gouging.

Of course it will hurt their bottom line. But you know what will hurt their bottom line more? Not raising the prices. Otherwise I guarantee you they would not do it. They have to accept that there is no scenario where they are unaffected by the cost increases.
People who think they know better than Apple how to calculate maximum profits are hilarious.

That’s actually the least relative increase of all products. The price was already so inflated that they didn’t dare increasing too much 🤣
It’s the product where CPU and RAM is the lowest percentage of the BOM.
I think this time is different. Unprecedented in demand, and suppliers have learned from past mistakes and will keep production in check in order to not saturate the market. They probably have learned a thing or two from OPEC 🙂

Well, memory prices obviously increased the price of used computers!
That’s how you know this is more than just what they claim. They are gouging and creating ill will.
30% price increase on a 5 year old homepod mini?
50% price increase on old tech AppleTV?
20% price increase on a REFURBED computer?
I purchased a refurbished M3 Ultra Studio with 256 GB RAM and a 4 TB hard drive from Apple for a little of $6,000 in July 2026. When I found out that M5 Ultra Studio was to be released at the 2026 WWDC I had regrets purchasing this machine. Now that the M5 Ultra is not going to be released till later this year (or maybe not all with the M7 so close) and with these recent price hikes, I am beginning to believe my purchase of the M3 Ultra was genius move. So much so, that I wish I had purchased several more as I could have sold them for a significant profit.

Correct, Apple would be hurt worse if they didn't raise their prices. I think some people either don't understand what is going on in the tech world right now, or delusionaly thought Apple would be totally protected from it somehow.

Quite possible your hardware doesn't meet that bloody Copilot AI minimum requirements so you can't install the latest Windows builds. For example my Ryzen 7 5800H is not powerful enough for the AI but on the other hand my RTX 3070 is and that's why I get all Windows updates.
Again, all this mess is caused by AI.
Honestly shocked that apple was able to avoid being bit by this for as long as they had. This crap is impacting almost all costs of goods. >I bought an 8TB SANDISK external SSD For 459 last October. Today that same item is 709. I bought an 20TB WD DESKTOP external hard drive (not SSD) for 439 THIS MARCH. today? I would have to pay 600! These prices are ridiculous and its because these AI companies are hogging all the components because they think they will be the company that wins the ai race

See that kind of stuff I don’t agree with - you put it in the cart at a set price. It should be locked in. I debated with Amazon one time when it happened and they gave me the price.

Where in my post did I suggest anything like that? Of course Apple is damned if they do, damned if they don't. But as the hundreds of responses to this thread shows, people are going to talk about how this situation affects their spending habits.

The irony is that so called ”AI”, which is for the most part unnecessary and something we could easily live without, is driving up the cost of chips. As a result, the products and technologies we genuinely depend on are becoming more expensive. Few things illustrate humanity’s folly more clearly than this.

Bought my 14" M5 Max 64GB 2TB on June 11 from B&H. List price was $4,299 but they had it on sale for $300 off at $3,999. Same config on the Apple site today is $5,099. In addition to the base price going up, the price from 48GB to 64GB is now $400 instead of $200 and 32-core to 40-core is now $300 instead of $200.
