I used my Win10 computer to scan documents today. Works perfectly.
My 2013 Asus laptop was updated until the very last day of Win10 support in 2025.
The same cannot be said of the exact same 2013 Macbook Pro with the exact same hardware, same Nvdia graphics card, same Haswell i7 chip.
Why do people feel the need to come troll you when you say Apple is missing the mark? The topic isn't that Microsoft is better, the topic was "Apple ****ed up and doesn't offer value anymore".
Meanwhile Windows 11 is currently getting cleaned up and streamlined.

B&H raised prices on what they have left in inventory (Neo with Touch ID now $799, etc). However, it looks like pretty much all non-base models M4/Pro/Max and M5/Pro/Max are sold out now. They had great prices the past few weeks. I bought right after WWDC - had hoped for new Studios to be announced. FedEx guy asked me if I knew what was going on since I was the 10th or 11th B&H box he'd delivered that day.

That's 12 years ago. Just recently someone asked me to 'translate' my pre-retirement wages to today's value in U$. Almost double. Yours is not a fair comparison.
I was waiting, so glad I saw the increase notices today or I would be in tears. Ordered my M5 Air on Amazon today.

Hilarious! 😆 Even XBOX got in on the price increases today for the third time since 2025. Consume, consume and consume some more. This is what happens. AI is an excuse just like gas prices when there is a fart in the wind. They are all in on it together to make more profits than ever. Good for them! 👍
It's far worse than noted above. As the MacBook Pro maxed out 14in was about 7K now it's jus shy of 10K. That is a major increase, meaning the upcoming MacBook Pro Ultra maxed out will be at min 3k more than before, but since it's ultra, could easily be far more.
Enjoy Windows 11 and the constant invasion of CoPilot. Or Linux, that's always on the verge of taking over the desktop realm. Personally, I credit MSFT for making Windows 11 so awful that I can't wait to leave work every weekday. YMMV.
Sure. Windows have been great “just around the corner” since Windows XP.
“Value” is relative to competition. I have both, and I fail to see the value in a notoriously bad OS, at any price. Sure, Apple f’ed up, but more than competition? Nope.
And people like me will point out when you are stating the obvious. If you didn’t mean to imply that Apple could have done better by not raising the prices, or raising them less, your point is meaningless.

What a lot of people fail to understand is that ai is gonna get their jobs . In radio most stations are now totally ai automated including the on air folks. My buddy trains people on ai so that it can take their jobs until his too will be gone
Well, yes and no. Yes, Apple held out longer than others, but that’s because they had long-term contracts for memory and they were already gouging customers on memory pricing, far above market prices in the PC world. So, yes, AI is the fundamental driver of price increases across the whole technology space, but Apple is also gouging its customers on memory pricing and has been for a long time. This price increase means their profit margins snap back to fantastic, up from merely great.

Look through my post history. I have been preaching on this site this year: if you know or even think you might need a new phone or computer in the next year, go buy it now! Iphones didn't get hit today, but if someone is concerned about price and your old phone is getting pretty old, buy a new phone now. If you wait until the 18s come out their expected higher price is going to hurt.
Sure we might complain about the modest hardware price increase, but we can rejoice for all we get to enjoy: the AI fake videos, asking ChatGPT or Claude to produce texts that nobody will ever have the time to read, or getting throw away code out of Codex. What a sweet deal ! 😇
If you are referring to Apple products as being those upon which you “genuinely depend”—that is either too much hyperbole or you are a very specialized individual on some way. You can live without an iPad. And definitely without a new iPad. If you are more than a decade old, you have obvious proof of this. The same is true for a generic modern smartphone. If this craze prevented you from purchasing any basic food or any driving a basic car, I’d following your logic.
Also—just because you don’t use AI or because you (or I) don’t like this AI frenzy, don’t assume you are representative. The market for this stuff may be overblown, but there is something substantial and enduring there, too. Plenty of people said we could live without the Web, Internet, microchip, transistor, etc. Not everyone has completely gone crazy here. The crypto market eventually corrected a ton of people and companies, and that will happen here—but LLMs/AI aren’t going away. And I don’t want you or any group—including me, myself—controlling the economy such that we tell Micron and TSMC that they can only sell to Apple but not to OpenAI. I’m also fine if OpenAI eventually goes bankrupt because of, what appears to me, foolish choices.
Fine. Let’s complain about Apple and Microsoft today. Tomorrow it will be Sony and HP. But there are practically unavoidable real, cost increases for basic food, medicine, and shelter that would seem to me a better place to put our combined focus. That we in the US don’t have the regulatory framework to allow for a truly “generic” insulin seems something that the great majority of us could agree needs remedy—if that many people knew this, and cared enough. I guess the most visible general markers for people are things like milk and gas. Basic milk prices were regulated and it was subsided for a long time in this country. Can’t say the same about a laptop.
