40 seconds! But I want it now! </homer>

Full details will be posted all over the Web within half an hour of the keynote. We'll have our info nearly immediately. And if any sites manage live text coverage, then instantly!

But if you want "the show" instead of "the facts," tune in Tuesday evening.

Apple is probably happy to have more people get the info from Apple.com and fewer from the keynote stream. Quicker, cheaper, and more complete!

It's a bummer, but I see why they may be moving this way. People pay a lot of money to attend the MacWorld Conference and one of the perks is that they get to be there, live, in person, to see the latest Apple has to show before we do.

Oh well. Still can't wait to see what's in store! :D

Could be IDG

IDG may have wanted more people to attend the Keynote and the conference. Kind of like a blackout in the NFL. In the past, we got the goods without paying the price. Just a thought.

Jobs = Moron. MORON MORON MORON! His stupid fragile ego. This is the way he treats his millions of loyal rabit fans, by snubbing them.

By the time his stupid keynote will air all the details will be out there in written form and many Apple fans, knowing all the details, wont give two sh**s about his razzamattazz keynote, it will be the least viewed keynote since webcasting. Way to go Jobs, you frickin' MORON!

OK it sucks but lets put a positive spin on it (or try to).
In the passt Apple has needed to get as much publicity bang for their buck and the live stream delivered - it generated interest. Maybe, just aybe with the mainstream interest etc. Apple no longer needs to justify such an expense - the hype and serious mainstream interest now evident in Apple means the thing (product release etc.) will generate enough interest...

Maybe this is to force people to upgrade to Quicktime NG? I mean if they do update to quicktime 7 tomorrow it would be a good idea on their part to force people to upgrade to watch the keynote and get off to a running start with the software.

But "working" while the Keynote was being broadcast has always been a tradition. Open up the stream and slide it next to a few other windows so that if anyone walks by you can just hide it with an Excel workbook. ;)

First the Red States, now no live MWSF keynote.

What about the children? Will someone *please* think of the children! </Maude>

With no wireless, I'll bet someone hooks a cell phone up to their laptop and posts a blow-by-blow anyhow. ;)

Yeah. He clearly has no idea how to run a company (or two).

Theres A Thought

I think swc might be on to something here. Maybe quicktime will get updated so they can give us mac users 9 hours to update to quicktime 7 and the macworld will be streamed using H.264.

This is a real bummer, the keynote live is a ritual for the Mac faithful and that means me. :(
It must be related to threats from protesters, thats the only thing I can think of.

This was planned way ahead of time by Apple NOT to do a live stream of the keynote. Its costs Apple a lot of money and has to be planned way ahead of the actual keynote in order to get everything ready.

I myself can't imagine the amount of work that would have to go into getting a live stream ready. There's a whole lot more work that most people think.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the rumors going around. Why would Apple punish its customers because of 1 or 2 sites that leak out information? Doesn't make any sense. Apple did it because its too much of a pain in the @$$ to plan and set up, and it costs Apple a lot of money to do.

Question/Comment

First off–

Live stream was cancelled...alright. Does that mean there is no satellite broadcast to Apple retail stores as well? Haven't seen any definitive news either way...

Second–
Has ANYONE been paying attention to Apple's volatile stock lately? Couldn't this just be a way to mitigate the effects of instant coverage that has plagued MWSF for years? Every year I watch Apple stock jump and fall on MWSF keynote day...well, I'm sure this is an obstacle which will help even out the reaction (markets close RIGHT after the keynote is over, coincidence?), not to mention the earnings for apple are being released, and I'm SURE the news is going to be MUCH better than expected, just watch the stock price tomorrow night. My 2¢.

Apple is funny

I'm laughing right now.. I think it's funny. My new slogan for Apple Computers is: Apple, The Communistic Company. They don't want rumors; they don't want to tell you what's coming; they don't want to broadcast their own event; and they want to control what comes out of the event. They have a closed system.... Too Funny.. WTF are they doing..

I think you got it...

I figured if I read enough of these posts someone would figure out a reason that actually made sense... Congratulations, you did it! This seems to be the only thing that even makes an ounce of sense. This seems like a longshot, but at least its feasible.

I'm not...

They have projected the # of streams, and it is not feasible. It will be broadcast, but not live... hardly anything is "live" anymore. Seriously. Streaming doesn't work with the current infrastructure for this # of viewers, so quit you're whining... and I don't mean just you, but come on...
Lastly... tickets were available to put that little behind in a chair and watch it yourself... you know, just like, oh I don't know... capitalism.

I've never been so embarrassed by so many of my fellow Apple users.

It is not the end of the world.

I could seriously care less about the event. I just thinks it's funny and I wasn't whining about anything, just making an observation.

HOLY SH** i was planning my day around this !!! i like the idea of a quicktime upgrade ? but i thought that was not until Tiger 10.4 ?

all i can say is ..this BETTER BE GOOD APPLE !!!

Apple Communist? Ha!

From dictionary.com:

<< Communism: 1) A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members. >>

If Apple is communist, I'm sure this is news to its employees.

<< 2a) A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people. >>

Yes Apple (read: Steve Jobs) is authoritarian, but I highly doubt they're doing it so eventually we and/or Apple's employees will all one day be as rich as Steve is.

<< 2b) The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat. >>

There sure is a lot of Apple stock floating around for such an anti-capitalist company...

People seem to get communist and authoritarian/totalitarian/"bad" mixed up.

No big deal

As much as I would love to watch live, I never can because of my school firewall and proxy. No video streams are allowed, or at least I can't figure out how to get them through.

As far as I'm concerned, Steve can do whatever the Hell he wants to. Look at Apple now! stock at an almost all time high, great product lineup,a second product (iPod) that is bringing in piles of money, and Windows users to the platform.

Can you imagine anyone complaining about missing a Michael Dell or Bill Gates Keynote?????

I'm like Bob Metcalfe of 3Com, Steve Jobs is on my all time hero list, and there is nothing that can change that.

Where are the pictures of the convention center? Anyone know of any links with the good stuff under wraps?
