Apple Communist? Ha!

From dictionary.com:

<< Communism: 1) A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members. >>

If Apple is communist, I'm sure this is news to its employees.

<< 2a) A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people. >>

Yes Apple (read: Steve Jobs) is authoritarian, but I highly doubt they're doing it so eventually we and/or Apple's employees will all one day be as rich as Steve is.

<< 2b) The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat. >>

Steve sure has a lot of stock for an anti-capitalist...

People seem to get communist and authoritarian/totalitarian/"bad" mixed up.
I stand corrected and maybe I should have said their in the sense like China where they control what you see and hear media wise.

Sorry, I guess I came on a bit strong (it's come up before on this forum). I very much dislike China and the ex-USSR's governments, but they weren't communist. Just like the name "People's Republic of China" is misleading...

Let's get back to the business at hand: complaining about Steve cutting us off from Macworld coverage.

If they did put up something to block even cell phone signals, as a previous post suggested, is there any way around that? It seems really petty on their part to not even let people report on the keynote, especially considering how much the Mac faithful look forward to it...

Way to go Apple. Quite a good way to piss off your faithful.

Since when did Apple start reading the Microsoft Guide to Marketing!?

About the same time they started buying lots of small companies... Next Apple Slogan: The Next Microsoft.

They have projected the # of streams, and it is not feasible. It will be broadcast, but not live... hardly anything is "live" anymore. Seriously. Streaming doesn't work with the current infrastructure for this # of viewers, so quit you're whining... and I don't mean just you, but come on...
Lastly... tickets were available to put that little behind in a chair and watch it yourself... you know, just like, oh I don't know... capitalism.

I've never been so embarrassed by so many of my fellow Apple users.

It is not the end of the world.

I agree. The Keynote stream over the web has never worked out well. Usually, even people who have GREAT internet connections (like T1 and above) get crappy feeds and eveeryone else gets an occasional frame. It really wasn't worth it. But they could have done a sattelite broadcast. That supports an unlimited number of users. :)

I don't know how they are going to keep people from sending info out live during the keynote. They would have to shut down all WIFi, set up a cellphone network scrambler, ect to keep people from making calls and wireless internet connections to send out text feeds. I'm sure a couple people will be stupid and try iSight broadcasts (which will be flooded and fail).

Anybody going? Posting live updates on products?

Does anybody know who will be posting live updates on products revealed? Are there any macrumors people going that can send out some updates? Is there a site that has insiders there to keep us posted?

Sorry but I need to have a little whine too about all of this... Get it off my chest.

I remember years ago I used to watch the keynote streams on my Performa 6320 (120Mhz) and a 33.6k modem. 2fps if I was lucky, but boy was it worth it! More recently as I've moved to broadband and got a G3 equipped mac running Panther I can no longer watch keynotes live. Yes, it's sad and yes I'm a mac nerd - But I'm sure all hobbyists feel the same about their particular obsession so I'll admit it. I get a real buzz out of seeing cool new mac stuff announced live. "s**t that looks awesome!!!" "I want one so badly it hurts" "SHE WILL BE MINE.. OH YES.. SHE WILL BE MINE" are thoughts that used to go through my mind when I would watch it. And the feeling the you and thousands of other mac-heads are doing the same as you all over the world used to be fun.

So why is Apple acting more and more like a spoilt kid? First they start suing people and websites that they've never even battered an eyelid at before. Then they gradually fade out the live keynote streams that Steve Jobs used to be proud of at one point (he always boasted about the number of people watching) Now there's no live keynote, a massive delay before the 'replay' and reportedly journalists will not be aloud to do live text feeds (are they going to ban phones and laptops? would not surprise me!)

This is no fun any more.

:( :( :( :( :(

Why stop there? How about... Next Apple slogan: "The New Abu Ghraib! Torturing Mac Fans For Fun And Profit!" :p

Seriously, you guys crack me up. I've never figured out why so many Apple/Jobs haters spend so much time following Mac rumors.

You've made the assumption I'm an Apple and Jobs hater when I'm not at all. I'm just having fun with it. Some people turn a blind eye and someone people like myself, point it out.

I'm writing on theis using the computer listed in my sig.. so haterj? no..

Hate Apple (treating fans like s**t, high foreign prices, waiting times, poor treatment of resellers, etc...) but love Macs.

Of corse Macrumors will have a live text feed. They always do. The site will go into that crazy low-bandwidth mode with the black and green textand the polls will be shut down/ I think the story submission is still allowed. I submitted something about the bluetooth mouse while the site was running like that last year, of corse the announcement came then and made the story submission silly.

OK its one thing to kill the live streams. That I could somewhat see justification for since it costs Apple a ton ‘o cash. But not broadcasting it to their Apple stores just seems critically stupid. If nothing else the possibility that they are tossing away a potential sales for those who would sit down to watch the event. This isn’t overreacting this is just a simple observation. Something is obviously going on to make them do this and I don’t believe for one second that it’s due to stock price changes. Something else is going on. Part of me thinks its Jobs ego. Another part might be a product that no one has uncovered.

OMG!!! Apple is releasing OS X Tiger for X86!!!!! With all of Apple apps launching with it simultaneously!! The headless iMac is actually a low end AMD system! That's the other announcement! Apple and AMD are teaming up to release a PPC chip for the PowerBook line.
;) Just kidding.

As others have pointed out: What if Apple block phone calls (therefor blocking voice, text and mobile internet) and block wifi. How would someone get word out?

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought blocking a cell signal is illegal in the US, at least for now. Thought it was an FCC thing. They need to leave 911 services open or something.

Alternate heading
"Apple says f*#$ you to most devoted, enthusiastic customers"

First they go after rumors sites which only true die hards read. Now they aren't even releasing a live webcast. I've been watching those live for years. I've even gotten up at 6am in the past to try to watch them on my then 56k connection which was painful. we are the ones who help carry the Apple torch and bring others into the fold. We're the apple evangelists. Why on earth are they ignoring the best customers Apple has?

The real story is that the keynote is going to be 8 hours long (and therefor very expensive to broadcast) So really, the video will be out shortly after the whole thing is over :D

Speaking from personal experience, I know that you can love Apple's products and still dislike their MO. To really simplify my views on Apple, I'd say that Apple products are cool, but Apple is not. It looks like other people agree with me, although I'm probably in the minority.

Even though there do seem to be some anti-Mac people lurking about, I think sites like Macrumors are a good place for the Mac faithful to discuss negative aspects as well as positive ones of the Mac experience. I actually spend a lot of time telling Windows people how much I like Panther, Macs, iPods, etc. My folks say I should be paid for how much I talk about Macs! But when I come to a Mac-predominant forum, I feel like I can say negative things without betraying the cause. :D

"Hello? 911? yes I have an emergency, it's really disastrous if I don't get help! I need to publish some information to a website but my wifi access is blocked.. It will get messy if I dont get this info out RIGHT NOW.. Do you understand me? DO YOU!? ... hello? HELLO?"

But back to reality. I didn't know it was illegal to do that. Bit of a topic started in itself. I'm all for scrambling cell phones in certain areas like cinemas and on your own property if you choose to. If it is in-fact against the law to block it then I'm fairly certain we'll get updates on sites as it happens - That's if you lot know how to SMS Text quickly ;) I hear it's not a big thing over there.

fug that they, shouldn't be scrambled. If you use them in a cinema, they should blow up.. ha ha ha... Evil Peter

I don't believe apple is going to make us wait that long to see the keynote. Hopefully websites create a link with a live feed or something. The suspense is killing me.

are you kiddin! and then they would have to face swift retribution!

But seriously...why no live feed to apple stores? this is technology we're dealing with here right? it's not like it's an NFL news conference or something.
