Wait, does this mean Apple will discontinue the whole iPhone 12 lineup? Will this also mean that there's no price drops across the whole lineup? Basically the same price points as today, and just replace the 12 series with 13 series? Well bummer. :(
Price drops? 🤣 That was a good one …. 👍

Definitely looks like it. 12 will be like the X.
When the Xs was released, Apple also released the XR and reduce the prices of the 8.

Wondering what Apple will do for the 13. I'm guessing nothing will be price dropped (thus hoping for a storage bump for all base models, ie. all iPhones will start at 128GB, but prices are the same).

If Apple wanted to keep the trend of price drop of the lineup like in the past, that means the 13 mini and regular 13 might get a reduced launch price., going back to the original 11 launch price. SE remains the same, XR is out, 11 becomes $499, 13 mini starts at $599, regular 13 at $699. But my guess is storage will remain at 64GB base.

I'll probably get an iPhone 13 in march.
I have an XR, so the upgrade makes sense; my phone is 3 years old and I'd like to move to something more premium.

That‘s pretty common for Apple, especially when successive devices are similar. I imagine it partly has to do with using production line capacity effectively (switch the main production lines to the new devices) as well as not eating into sales of the new premium devices
That’s the reason, the isn’t going to be much of a difference between the 12 and 13 and would eat into sales.

You know, every year the iPhone gets two times faster and five times as awesome and three times as I can't live without getting the newest one, but I feel like it hasn't done anything "new" since its introduction. What's next, I wonder.

It is a label in a FCC document. Not meant to be seen by most customer. Is not like in the website they just added a section for “legacy devices”.

Just keep using whatever phone works for you. I still use my iPhone 11 Pro Max and hace no problem with whatever Apple wants to label it.

If “legacy” merely means new iPhone supersedes the older one, it’s normal. But iPhone 12? Do we keep iPhone XR for another fricking year? Or apple decides to stop selling all previous gen iPhones to push iPhone 13 sale and upgrade?

That would be my idea of this. If the label is 'early', it could be that Apple is trying to cast shade on their older products, but if they make an 11-ish 'cheap model', they will be committing rank hypocrisy.

Personally, I'd rather see Apple do a whole model range of new iPhones, with each successive 'better' model having some 'must have' feature, rather than having them resurrect an older model, and call it new. But that's just me.

For legacy legacy legacy owners, rock on! I had a hard time giving up my 10X Max. It was pretty awesome, except for the camera, but I still filled up the memory anyway.

But we'll see...

XR will be long gone once the iPhone 13 arrives, the 11 will stay in the line up.

Give us pwm free iphone, please
The iPhone 12 is significantly better for my brain than the X,XR, or 11 pro was -Those hurt a lot. The 12 PWM is somehow more tolerable for me.

edit: I meant XS, not XR. Who can keep track of all these iPhones with their silly names anymore?

Seems the only way to make it that much better, they need to make if implantable. I'm sure we are many years (thankfully) away from that happening.

Just come out with a phone capable of Satellite communication.
5G USELESS, OVERHYPED, NOT THAT FAST, EXPENSIVE.

BRING ON SATELLITE IPHONE PLEASE?

Too expensive, and still, surprisingly, spotty coverage. In buildings, etc... Plus the antenna would be something to deal with, and Apple wants it to be 'sexy', and 'skinny', and sat phones are neither. Swapping frequencies would be necessary, and I don't know how easily that could happen. And would anyone want to pay for Apple Music streaming over satellite? The latency and dropouts would be epidemic, and frustrating, coupled with cost, and the old adage 'be careful what you wish for' pops to mind.

I guess my iPhone X (10) is very legacy now. It often gets so slow the thing becomes unresponsive. Apple definitely makes your phone go slower over time. Their software updates introduce features made to slow down old phones. It's really quite annoying.

Do you think this would increase the value of the 12 series in the used marketplace? Can’t decide whether this would increase the value or decrease it…
