Not to be a troll, but where I live TMo 5G is at least twice as fast as I ever got on LTE. I even switched my home internet from xfinity to TMo. Getting at least the same speed or better for 50% of the cost each month.

Put more simply, this year, Apple is keeping the iPhones XR, SE and 11 in the lineup, probably at new, even lower suggested prices as all of those are not threatening to sales of iPhones 13.

Maybe the Xr will also get be cut since it’s essentially just a lower spec’ed iPhone 11 and already at such a low price point.

The most likely scenario:

The iPhone 11 replaces the XR
The iPhone 12 6.1” replaces the iPhone 11; the 12 mini disappears
The iPhone 13/13 mini replaces the 12/12 mini
The iPhone 13 Pro/13 Pro Max replaces the 12 Pro/12 Pro Max
iPhone SE continues on as is until Q1 of 2022.

The 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Mac will all get get discontinued this year and replaced by the iPhone 13 lineup while the 6.1” iPhone 12 replaces the iPhone 11. Fairly simple step ladder strategy.

My brother in law just picked up an Xr for $399. It's his first iPhone after using Androids and feature phones before that. I'd say the Xr is an excellent deal for his needs. And the A12 chip is still pretty speedy.

My magsafe pouch/wallet occasional fell out from the back of iPhone 12 and manage to return it back to Apple on the last day!
 
Would my 4GB June 2007 launch day iPhone be from The Mesolithic age.
(*That DEEP, DEEP 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, you needed a special adapter. 😆)

Oh I forgot it’s September. Time for Apple’s yearly iPhone minor refresh again. I’m sorry but the consistent yearly updates have become boring. Not to mention the environmental impact this has done to the world over the past 10 years. Not just from Apple but from all of the carriers who have to put up new signage for the “new” iPhone available here. If we really “cared” about the environment, we would stop these yearly updates just to make money. It’s time businesses really pay for destroying our world. And now for all of the “so you want to stop progress” comments.

Looks like my iPhone 6S is going to make it to retirement. 5 years of constant daily use and it's been fantastic, feels like it could go another 5 if the battery wasn't kaput and the speaker worked. Performance is still strong.

Then why pay attention to it? It's totally optional to watch and follow these events. I find reality TV utter cancer, so guess what, I don't watch it.

By all means start your ecocrusade, maybe turn off the electricity, cut your ties to the internet and we won't have to hear from you again. I care heavily about the environment, but these are such hypocritical comments. If you really cared that much then why are you using modern technology? FYI I've held onto the same iPhone for half a decade and now plan on upgrading.

Not a chance.
There’s absolutely no scenario in which the iPhone 12 6.1, which is going to be extremely, extremely similar to the iPhone 13 6.1, goes from $829 down to $599 after one Keynote.
Sorry, won’t happen, not a chance.
Apple has never given an iPhone a $229 price cut in one day, and they’re not going to do it with an iPhone that is so similar to their new one.
Most likely scenario is that they just cut the XR and The entire 12 series, and you’re just left with the SE, 11, and 13 series.
Hell, if the Apple Watch Series 3 has proven anything, it’s that they’re not above leaving products around for years and years, so I wouldn’t even be surprised if the XR still remains, at least until early next year when the new SE comes out

If all 4 iPhone 12's are listed as legacy, then the regular 12 will be gone as well.

Perhaps the 13 mini drops down by $50 to fill that void.

my parents actually opted out getting new iphones since due to the pandemic, they much prefer the touchID on their 9 plus.

My guess is. Since the A14 and A15 both use TSMC's 5nm process. Plus the new x60 modem uses the 5nm process. Apple had to cut the iPhone 12 entirely to make sure they have production capacity for the iPhone 13, iPads and Macs.

I wonder if the low end will just be the iPhone 11 again with a price drop or if they'll make a revised model with extra RAM, a better screen or something else.
