Can't really see anyone rushing in to get this deal. But no one is really buying a Mac to save money so not going to matter.

I can see it now. College campuses covered with people wearing beats headphones. Count on it.
Agreed, a lot of people with their noses up in the air on this site seem to hate beats. Yet kids everywhere have them. Since this is a back to school promotion and the target audience is kids (including university kids), then this makes total sense.

Too much hating this morning.

Sure, it's "free" with purchase. That doesn't mean it's anything to be happy about. They could have given out free onions or bedazzled socks, but that doesn't mean anyone should be happy about it.

It's supposed to a promotion, as in something to stir interest in a purchase. It fails in that regard for a lot of people.

A lot of people on MacRumors, maybe. But for the general public, a lot of people, mainly the ones going to college/school, don't have this idea. We of course hear about it all the time, so it's familiar to us that Beats are apparently garbage. I have personally never listened to them, but have heard the newer ones are doing better. Still not worth the price, but better.

We sometimes forget that we are just a small, be it knowledgeable, sector of Apple customers. The average kid sees all their friends with Beats, celebrities with Beats and Beats in Apple stores. So their mindset is that they want to be a part of the club. Apple knows what they're doing (most of the time). And this is just another example if you think about it from a business standpoint.

Remember when they gave free iPods?? Man how times have changed...
They weren't giving away instantly "free" iPods. You still had to pay the $200 upfront for the iPod, which is still a lot of money when students should've been using that for applecare. Then you had to wait a few weeks for apple to send you a rebate check, on top of that wait a few days for the check to clear at you bank. If you hate the headphones? flip them for profit, no waiting for your money to return to you..

Absolutely brilliant marketing this to get youth hooked on the brand.

They're already hooked. They know kids and teenagers want them, but can't really afford them.

Yes, I got my first one through the back to school promo, it was amazing.

I can see it now. College campuses covered with people wearing beats headphones. Count on it.

That's already happened.

Wow kids these days are missing out. I remember when Apple used to offer 10% off then gradually moved to $100 (to $200 off) Macs then to iTunes gift cards.

This is a solid move by Apple though to promote the Beats brand. One thing I'll give Beats is that they are probably the coolest looking headphones out there. Too bad they cost so much and are of average-bad music quality.

I bought a Macbook on Monday, any chance i will get them?
You are within the 14 day return policy. Your store will "return" your machine and resell it on the same receipt with the promotion line for the 0.00 Headphones.

So free headphones, $100 off MBP, and no sales tax in August. I wish skylark would be out already.

Rather have a free Apple TV and $25 gift card
