pardon me i did not see that they were still offering edu discounts on top of the head phones
They vary by model. For the Mac Mini I think it's only $25 or $50. For the more expensive MBPs I think you can get $100 to $200 off in the U.S.

Wow you guys like to whine - as a college student this is awesome!! You walk into any college library and by far the most predominant headphones being worn are Beats.
Students love wearing headphones while they study. This is PERFECT.
This is pretty sad and shows how Angela Ahrendts phoned this in without giving it any deep thought. Not to mention it being late and causing parents and grandparents more stress than they deserve.
Maybe Apple need someone on the team who's mind is still rooted in the street as clearly they are all living in cloud cuckoo land.
Bold: Read the article, many EU countries have this promotion.
Apple's Back to School promotion runs from today through September 18, 2015 at Apple Retail Stores, and between August 6, 2015 and September 18, 2015 on the Apple Online Store, in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.
My goodness. What is it with this generation and the "this FREE item isn't good enough" attitude towards everything.
How about $100 off a mac?
What's the value of an iPod when everyone has a smartphone?
Back in my day (last month) I just studied in silence!![]()
Odd, and telling, that you think this was Angela's decision. Sounds like something Phil would be most involved in, because he's, like, the SVP of Marketing and all.
I guess, maybe.A lot of people on MacRumors, maybe. But for the general public, a lot of people, mainly the ones going to college/school, don't have this idea. We of course hear about it all the time, so it's familiar to us that Beats are apparently garbage. I have personally never listened to them, but have heard the newer ones are doing better. Still not worth the price, but better.
We sometimes forget that we are just a small, be it knowledgeable, sector of Apple customers. The average kid sees all their friends with Beats, celebrities with Beats and Beats in Apple stores. So their mindset is that they want to be a part of the club. Apple knows what they're doing (most of the time). And this is just another example if you think about it from a business standpoint.
Kids nowadays need to be distracted while learning.
Sure, it's "free" with purchase. That doesn't mean it's anything to be happy about. They could have given out free onions or bedazzled socks, but that doesn't mean anyone should be happy about it.
It's supposed to a promotion, as in something to stir interest in a purchase. It fails in that regard for a lot of people.
The articles says:
I don't see EU?
These are not "crappy" headphones, they just don't perform well relative to their cost (i.e., relative to other headphones at a similar price level). For "free" they are very nice headphones. Granted, probably not as good as a "free" iPod or a gift card but a great bundle from a marketing perspective.
I doubt this was her decision. My guess is this came from Schiller. I think he has far more power around the pricing and positioning of Apple products/promotions than she does. This is pretty sad and shows how Angela Ahrendts phoned this in without giving it any deep thought. Not to mention it being late and causing parents and grandparents more stress than they deserve.

Wow kids these days are missing out. I remember when Apple used to offer 10% off then gradually moved to $100 (to $200 off) Macs then to iTunes gift cards.
This is a solid move by Apple though to promote the Beats brand. One thing I'll give Beats is that they are probably the coolest looking headphones out there. Too bad they cost so much and are of average-bad music quality.
