This is a nice promo, although an iPod touch 6th gen for the same price for free would be a thousand times better. Including something with an iPad or iPhone purchase would have been nice, but they are probably trying to make up for the price of this promo by excluding them and starting the offer later than usual.

It would still be a better device for free, which is my point.

A better device for free which no student would use? They will actually use their Beats.

It's supposed to a promotion, as in something to stir interest in a purchase. It fails in that regard for a lot of people.

Then, Apple should just cancel it and not give away anything ?

My goodness. What is it with this generation and the "this FREE item isn't good enough" attitude towards everything.

It just the false sense of entitlement that many young people have. They are in for a shock when they finish college and have to go to work in the real world :D.

For AppleCare? You mean were mad at students for not paying extra money for an extended warranty? Students are certainly not going to be doing that.
When did I EVER mention that I was "Mad"? I suggested that many students/faculty held off on buying applecare for their $1000+ machine, because they had to pay $200 for the "free" iPod upfront back in the day. Its smart on Apples part to give these away, without anyone even apple having to deal with rebate checks..

She's the one that relays all the retail information to the employees. Assuming that because she tells her staff about the promotions means that she is responsible for deciding them is quite a leap.

Look I'm not arguing specifics here. And I'm not here to argue it was a bad or good idea (I happen to like the idea whoevers idea it was).

I'm just saying that the person thinking Angela Ahrendts was involved was not wrong to think so based on the reference that I made. I don't give a rat's about who made the decision. Whoever did is a brilliant marketing genius.

Again. Take a second... Just 1. To think.

Yes, obviously my opinions are my opinions. Anything else you want to waste my time with?

You stated it as fact saying that the ipod is a better free product. The only person wasting peoples time with wining is you. Not me.

I agree with all the people that say this a great thing. It fits the target audience. This is the back to school sale for K-12 and College not the Back to work sale. What apple is doing is giving something that would already be purchased with the computer for free

That was allot of typing for just wanting to say, "you get what you pay for"!

You get much better than what you pay for with this promo but generally less than you pay for if you buy Beats headphones.

Why be concise in writing when there's so much to say and so many great words to use? :)

Funny how people are completely misinformed about how Apples BTS promotion works, yet they dive in and give an opinion without taking a second to think..You always can get the student discount on a mac/applecare all year round. The BTS promo just throws something a little extra on top to generate higher mac sale traffic for the back end of the summer/fall. They are not getting rid of the student discount, they're giving you something absolutely free on top of the student discount that you could've taken advantage of anytime that you please...

Like I said to another poster, if she doesn't have the metal to tell him its a ******** deal and explain why then she is not fit for the position. Retail is her baby. Maybe she doesn't care enough.

And this isn't retails lane

They will regret doing this. Wonder what brainiac at Apple came up with this lame brain idea. I'm told Beats headphones are the worst sounding cans on the market. Why would anyone be attracted to this dud deal?

The people that tell you that are contrarians trying sound more informed than they actually are. They are repeating a meme. Beats are not the best, but they're not the worst.

Stupid question: 1 pair is 1 product or are 2 products? The left and right speakers are bond together, so that is why "a pair" only confuses me. Anyone too?

So let me get this straight...Apple doesn't want to put these Beats on eBay so they make the consumers do it. Smart!

I'm not a big fan of Beats headphones though they've apparently been vastly improved according to more recent reviews.

But, acoustics aside, this is a very good, very smart promo... kids will love it, they'll promote the brand everywhere they wear them, it subtly promotes Apple's new music service, it doesn't cost Apple much more than a $50 iTunes gift card but users get a far better value (they can always sell it or gift it if they don't need headphones). It's a win win.

Again, this is something you're being given FOR FREE. The horror of having to lug these out of the Apple store and sell them on Amazon, eBay, or regift them.

How are headphones "bloatware?"

Maybe he thinks they're actually in the Mac, or....idk? o_O

I'm curious if they will do that? Or if you'll have to return and re-buy the computer?

If they're nice they may do it. If not then returning it will mean you pay a 10% restocking fee possibly which would be more than the free pair of crappy headphones you get. Additionally, I ordered a custom Air with 8GB of RAM so returning it may be an even larger issue.

It's not worth the headache if they won't just give them to you and send you on your way.

Sure, it's "free" with purchase. That doesn't mean it's anything to be happy about. They could have given out free onions or bedazzled socks, but that doesn't mean anyone should be happy about it.

It's supposed to a promotion, as in something to stir interest in a purchase. It fails in that regard for a lot of people.
You and me may not like Beats, but they are a huge seller and this is a very smart promotion.
