Do you have problems with them falling out while running? That was the thing that was keeping me from buying them to use while riding a bike.[/QUOTE]

Nope they don't even move when I am running.

Apple today launched its Back to School promotion in the United States and Canada, offering the choice of a free pair of Beats Solo3, BeatsX, or Powerbeats3 headphones to qualifying students, parents of students, and educators who purchase an eligible Mac with education pricing for a limited time.

Eligible models include any MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac Pro. As usual, the Mac mini and refurbished Macs are excluded from the deal.

The promotion also offers free BeatsX wireless headphones with the purchase of any 10.5-inch or 12.9-inch iPad Pro, or students can pay $50 extra for Beats Powerbeats3 or $150 extra for Solo3 wireless headphones. Apple's new 9.7-inch iPad and iPad mini 4 models do not qualify for the promotion.

In addition to Apple's online store for education, the promotion is available at Apple retail stores and Apple authorized campus stores, or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. Those eligible for the promotion include faculty, staff, students, and parents of students at higher education institutions, and select others:Apple's Back to School promotion is also available in select other countries, including Singapore and Mexico, but it has yet to launch in Europe. Apple usually waits up to a few weeks before expanding the promotion to countries like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Apple's Back to School promotion starts today and ends September 25, 2017 in the United States and Canada. Apple's terms and conditions outline the complete eligibility requirements for the promotion in those countries.

Students are required to verify their enrollment or acceptance in a higher education institution in order to participate in the promotion. Not a student? Visit our Apple Deals roundup for other deals on Apple products and accessories.

How about being able to pay an extra $10 to get AirPods... guess I’ll just have to sell

Just as an FYI for those that bought iPads elsewhere like I did buying mine from Verizon, they don't honor the back to school promotion unless you buy it directly from apple

Headphones'll really help the kids with their schoolwork, yeah. Wot a good idea, he says sarcastically.

Would have enjoyed the $100/75 Apple Store gift card like in Australia and NZ to pay for some accessories like a notebook case or an Apple Pen.

Mine did as they are noise cancelling so I could concentrate better, he said truthfully.

Just a thought only:

If Apple included the Airpods, this would have been an awesome accessory to complement the iPad or MacBook. Now given the constraint and it may not have been in Apple's best interest at the moment, they are an exceptional product. I use them everyday and I would gladly purchase a second pair.

But nothing wrong with Beats either.

It's a pain to see the people bitching about this. A) Apple don't owe you anything. B) You say you'd rather a $100 gift card instead but the solo 3's for example are 250 or so... So sell them for like 200 and then you have 200 to spend in the store instead. Like how can you be made at apple giving something for free that you can either keep or sell on. It's a joke.

Only a slightly lighter side... lets hope it's here in the UK very soon. My spec is currently on a 2-3 week backlog so need to order ASAP :D

The Solo3’s are the first ones worth a damn, IMO, in the whole “Solo” family. They have the W1 chip and the sound and battery life are much better than in the past.

Did they get rid of the audio compression and bass boost? Because that's a huge part of what makes Beats headphones garbage.

They can't fill orders for Airpods as it is. Including them in this promo would set the shipping dates back months.

Great timing.

Was in need of a new MacBook, and my Beats Solo2 ear pads are on their last legs (falling off, became unglued after 2 years of almost daily use). Score!

You obviously don't understand marketing.

If I give you a $100 item for free for buying something, I'm NOT out $100. I'm only out what it costs to make that item, like $50. Your perceived value is $100, but my cost is $50.

If I gave you a price reduction of $100, then my cost is $100. Not as good for me.

Additionally, Apple gets more people using Beats and can talk about those increased numbers. They can't do that if they just give cash back. And giving $50 off sounds worse than 'free $100 beats'.

This is why so many stores, like Target, want to give away $25 gift cards with $100 purchase instead of just $25 off. First, it encourages people to come back to Target, second that $25 really doesn't cost their bottom line $25.

Wait, I'm not quite understanding. Wouldn't a price reduction on another item of your choice be the same as a gift card? So the difference would be instead of Apple giving you a couple choices of beats headphones, they are giving you a choice of any Apple products priced the same. It's still follows the '$100 perceived gain / $50 actual loss for Apple' principle, as long as that money is spent on Apple products. Or am I missing something?

Does the Beats brand have any cache with anyone over the age of 18? Why not rebrand and market a segment of Apple's headphones division as simply "Apple" and design/manufacture headphones to compete with Bose, Sennheiser, Shure, Grado, etc., at the high-end premium spectrum of the market—like Apple does with everything else it sells?

I'm sure for the Beats brand there's still money left on the books, lingering equity, or even a timing clause in Apple's buyout contract preventing this from happening already. Otherwise this should have been day 1 stuff. (No adult with discretional income gives a rats-ass about Beats or its products.)

I don't even care about Beats being good or bad but who cares? They've given out iTunes cards before, those must not have been selling well? Or Apple gift cards? Or Printers? Or iPod Touches/Minis.

Its free. Never seen so many people bitch about something free they can re-sell.

You're right. But what does it say about the current perception of Apple that as soon as they offer a promo everyone just assumes they're trying to unload crap they can't sell?

There's nothing wrong with this beats promo, but these days nobody believes Apple will do anything worthwhile.

Does anyone know if the Beats Solo sit on top of the ear or go around it? I can't stand it when they just sit on top of my ear, thanks :)

Solo (smaller) on top, Studio (bigger) around.
[doublepost=1499878450][/doublepost]Stopped by the Apple Store and got my pair of Solo's for a MacBook Pro I bought Sunday. Pretty straightforward: they do an unopened item return and sell you back the same product on the same receipt.

Why would Apple want to do something as financially detrimental as what you're suggesting? Beats has the majority of the profits in the headphone industry and the majority of the sales. Beats has a brand with a strong following. None of what you're suggesting would benefit Apple from a business perspective. Cache'? Look at the popular influence makers like athletes, artists, and entertainers. Beats users and/or sponsors. Like them are not, Beats is the headphone brand analog to the iPhone in the smartphone space. I'd take Beats sales, profit, and market share over any of the brands you mentioned. So would Apple. This from a fan of Senn cans. This is business not a popularity contest, which if was, Beats would be winning that too.

Why not a price reduction equal in value? At least make that an option!

Beats is the new bloatware.

We all would like a credit to spend on our choice or a simple price cut, but the reason Apple does it this way is that a customer gets the full price value of the $150 credit, but it only cost Apple the wholesale price. A priced reduction "in value" would cost Apple hugely more.
