I use my Airpods for working out and running. Don't think I could use anything else now.

Same here using AirPods on phone calls with my iPhone. Having both hands free, along with having much better audio, is great. Tough going back to holding the phone against my head.

I agree that the waiting part sucks...but just because new ones might be released 4-5 months later doesn't make the 2017 IPP obsolete. I prefer to the save the money and put that towards higher capacity storage, smart keyboard, etc.

Also...the last car i purchased was a 2015 model at a heavy discounted price when the 2016s had just hit the showrooms. The differences between the two models were negligible for me. ;)

It's all in what works for you. In the couple months you wait for a product to become discounted I can easily make up the savings through added productivity experienced during that time. If you don't need that and can wait, great.

It's not my choice of headphones, but as folks bash Beats headphones it's a good reminder of how our individual tastes may be very different than the market. It also indirectly highlights how ingenious Tim Cook/Apple was to purchase Beats. Many criticized Apple for "overpaying" for Beats and only focused on the streaming service, when Tim Cook knew the headphones brand was as as important. Together with Apple, Beats has now swamped every competitor in the world and has brought in massive revenue to Apple. Apple now owns the premium headphone market (>$200) worldwide as well as the exponentially increasing worldwide wireless market with the majority of sales.

Well, I'll be damned, I just came back with an iPad Pro and did use my academic discount, just to see this!

Maybe I should try my luck and ask later...?

I'm only out what it costs to make that item, like $50. Your perceived value is $100, but my cost is $50.

Beats is probably around $ 4-10 to make. But probably I'm still in the western mindset, maybe its really more like $ 0.5 - 2

Headphones'll really help the kids with their schoolwork, yeah. Wot a good idea, he says sarcastically.
They need the headphones so their roommates are undisturbed by the porn viewing that will inevitably occur on the new machine. It's a distraction all around

I got my ipad 12 inch three weeks ago, I kind of feel a bit annoying to nag them about this but if they say no i'm gonna act "tough customer" I think. This usually helps if they say no. I did buy the most expensive 12 inch.

I have a mac that will be in the mail soon too. Should I ask them on two different occations for the two products?

I'm about to get an iMac. I already have BeatsX so I'll get solo3. Btw, I see a lot of ppl here pooh-poohing this offer. Don't know about the other choices but BeatsX are absolutely great. I love mine. Haven't used wired phones with my iPhone once since I got them. Same W1 chip as in AirPods so very easy to pair, volume controls and you can get any tips you want.

I'm planning on buying a MacBook Pro 15 inch....according to Apple.ca I can get Solo3 (329$ CAN ) for free

Do you think that that apple would let me get the Bose QuietComfort 35 wireless (449$ can) instead and I'll pay the 120$ difference??????

If not do you think they'll let me at least get the Beats STUDIO ( 399$ can) and I'll pay the difference..??

I know my friend did this 2 years ago when he bought his 12inch and paid a little more to get the beats solo instead of the earbuds beats...

I really hate on-ear headphones..

I envy you, I can't even use Airpods for walking a few steps... they fall out of my ears. I really like them but they don't fit my ears.

My wife bought a new Macbook Pro exactly 15 days ago (but didn't pick up the computer until 14 days ago) with an educational discount. I stopped in at the Apple Store she bought it from over lunch, and asked about the promotion. They used the e-mailed receipt from the purchase to do a return and rebuy and 5 minutes later I walked out with a pair Solo 3 headphones. The guy said that, as others have said, there is a little leeway on the 14 day window, but the process is very quick and easy.

Students are required to verify their enrollment or acceptance in a higher education institution in order to participate in the promotion.
After all these years, you would think MR would get it right. You are not required to verify your enrollment. You are required to attest to your enrollment.

anyone get a retroactive ok for a recent purchase yet?
I was told my iMac qualifies, but the official OK will come within 3 business days. I received the iMac in early July, just over a week ago.

I was also told my MacBook does not qualify. I received it mid-June, over three weeks ago.

---

BTW, while I'm not a Beats fan either, free is free. I'll take it. It's better than having no promotion last week.

The extra set of headphones will be good as a second set. I already have AirPods, which will be my primary wireless headphones, but I can keep the Beats in another location like my workplace.

Sorry if this is a stupid and greedy question - but from a pure resale value perspective, which Beats MODEL and COLOR would you choose? I have no use for them but will definitely try to make some money back by selling them.

I'm thinking the Beats Solo Wireless3 On-Ear Headphones, just from a pure starting price standpoint. Apple lists $329.95 (but sells for $299.95). Most online retailers like Best Buy and even Amazon sell them new for $219.

In terms of color, obviously black may be the most "applicable" to the largest potential group of buyers. However, in looking at Amazon's stock and prices, they seem to uncharge for the Gold, Rose Gold, and Violet editions (up to $299). I feel very strange ordering this color based solely on this, especially when I would most likely be selling on Craigslist or eBay.

But what do you guys think? I'm a Bose guy for headphones so just no experience with Beats.

The problem with both Beats and the Airpods is that the sound quality is crap.

Better pay more for something that sounds decent.

I purchased a MBP 15" through the online education store last week. I called Apple today and asked them if they would give me the offer since I haven't even received the computer yet. They said they would and are going to ship them to my house. Pretty cool on Apple's part I'd say.

I doubt it, but I'd also like to know. I'm thinking about buying an MBP13. I'm pretty sure Apple just wants to push their own beats brand so college campuses will be swarming with beats logos.

I also hate on-ear headphones and can't see myself using Solo3's. I have the Bose QC25's (older non-wireless version of the 35's) and I love them, I'd be happy to pay the $120 difference to go from the Solo3's to the Bose QC35's. For the same reason as you, I'd also be willing to pay to upgrade to Beats Studio.
