I think, as much as I hate to admit it, that user boltjames was right.  no longer cares about the low to mid level users. Everything they release is aimed at the wealthy user with lots of cash to spend.
At these prices and specs, when my 13" 2015 rMBP needs to be replaced, I will be leaving the  walled garden. It was a good 12 year run but I can't afford to keep up.
Best wishes to all that continue to chase the dream.

Things are the same that they’ve been this century. Perhaps it’s that Mac users never gave high-end PC hardware a chance. Honestly once Adobe improved their product on Windows, the OS was just a matter of preference. It’s not like Windows 10 is the first usable version.

I left Windows because I am tired of performing the redundant maintenance it requires to run well although SSDs improved the situation.
Adobe premiere pro runs faster under windows than OSX. Apple fanboys are hilarious with they FCPX machine.

It is better to have higher spec versions out than no refresh at all. But I dearly hope that Apple has an architectural change coming and that this is possibly the end of an era.

Not really, these quiet updates do happen. Usually we hear rumours of what will be coming, we all kind of figured this was coming but it is a surprise they launched today.

It is a better business strategy really. If people know exactly when the new stuff will launch that will drastically lower sales in the prior quarter if not longer especially with a product most people only buy every 3-5 years.

Question for Macrumors. Does it not shock you that with all your and our rumor sources, Apple is still able to pull off these stealth updates without us being able to see them coming? I don't mean that we have no rumors. You obviously report them quite well. But just like this "boom" they are on the website and available for purchase and if you asked folks who are totally clued in what MONTH this was coming in, you would have gotten guesses for August, September and even a few people guessing October.
When it comes to the Mac, and especially quieter refreshes like this, there just aren't as many sources leaking. The only clues we had were a Geekbench benchmark and filing that referenced new MacBook Pro models shipping with High Sierra rather than Mojave. Seems obvious now, but neither of these proved the possibility of a July refresh.

Holy ****. I'm floored.

Why do I get cold moderator pms about me circumventing MR rules on swearing when I replace slang for a donkey with Cleo's snake, but others can put a bunch of asterisks in a row & carry on? Although I do agree w/ the above. lol Best Apple user exerience forum for discussion with others & that's about my sole joy here.

The thing with PCs is that you can always use the newest and strongest hardware. You don’t have to wait for anyone to sell you a prebuilt system.

FCPX is good as well. It all depends on what people like and are comfortable using.

I guess the 12" macbook and 13" nTB model will both go away and will be replaced by a single macbook 13" later this year.

I highly doubt that - the 12" MacBook is the ideal vision of what Apple wants in a laptop - one port to charge, a screen, keyboard and trackpad. Tiny, ultralight and incredibly portable.

I do think the 13" non-touchbar could come in at $999, but maybe they keep it with a last-gen processor, 8GB RAM and a small SSD to make people want to upgrade. Or maybe they put the MacBook Air processor line into it (the one below the pro's) to keep the price lower. Of course then they have a naming problem because calling it a "Pro" is a bit awkward if the Macbook is more expensive.

According to Are Technica, the keyboard seems a little bit better, but I guess time will tell as to just how improved they have been, and if the current issues plaguing them have been resolved or not.

My guess would be that it's a 3rd gen keyboard designed to make it "quieter", but also fixes the issue without Apple admitting to it for liability reasons.

I'll be watching, but my guess is you won't really see any issues with these 2018's.

Macbook Pro 15" i9 / 32Gb / 1Tb

UK - £3689
US - $3899 = £2948
Japan - Y423800 = £2849

£3689 - £2849 = £840 less than across the road from me in Oxford Street!

Flight to Tokyo = £550
Total saving £290

Books flight to Tokyo.
My country is such a rip off.

Kon'nichiwa!

I bought my 2017 Pro in Japan in Feb. Even though I knew it would be likely updated soon the £600 I saved on the top specced 13 inch definitely made it worth it!

Hmmm, overall good news. I have a 2016 MBP with touch bar, and the keyboard has been, umm, very frustrating.

I have to assume the new keyboard is as much better as Apple could make it, but I don't know how to figure out whether I can trust it.

I can't imagine why anyone who prefers the 13" model would ever need or want 32GB of RAM, so it makes perfect sense that Apple limited this option to the 15" Model. Everyone knows that a true 'pro' is defined by the size of their Mac's display.

Sneaky Apple. Looks like a really decent bump if the keyboard issue was addressed!

EDIT: Wait, looks like 32GB DDR4 is only available on the 15-inch, and not the new quad core 13-inch... That's going to make some people angry :/

Why? there are no slim light 13 inch intel machines using DDR4 or offering 32gb. That’s fair it’s not desktop replacement machine and quad core is the new dual core...

Any 13" 2017 MB pro w/touchbar owners upgrading or staying put?

13' 2017 MBP TB owner here. My initial reaction was disappointment because my wife and I just bought nearly maxed out MBP 13' a few months ago.

News articles on this are misleading and wrong. I am no longer disappointed and no, we'll be staying put.

A real shame the 13" doesn't come with a 32GB option. Would've been a close to perfect system with quad cores + 32GB RAM.

I see a lot of complaints but honestly I quite like the 13" MacBook Pro.

Yeah, the first news article I read on this said that the 13' came with 32GB. They've corrected it since then. This would have bummed me out the most (having just bought a 2017 13' MBP TB). But since 16GB is the max, I'm not even jealous.

The price of $1200 for 2TB … yeah, we're very happy with our 2017 MBP 13' TB laptops. :)

I was using a 2011 Mac Mini with 8GB ram - never once getting close to taxing the ram (even with Word, xcode, Safari with 20+ tabs, etc...), up until we purchased our 2017 MBP 13'. So I'll be happy with 16 GB Ram.
