Well, good update, I really like the truetone feature. The thing is that I configured the specs to match my needs (32GB ram / 1TB SSD) and it's 4300EUR. So, I will stick with my 2015 15". I would probably buy it if it has no-touchbar...

Nuts:

16->32 GB RAM Upgrade: +$400

1TB SSD Upgrade: +$400
2TB SSD Upgrade: +$1200
4TB SSD Upgrade: +$3200
Not as bad as you might think. Apple uses high-end NVMe SSDs, not SATA; a comparable 2 TB 960 Pro retails for around the same price.

32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM goes for around $300, so Apple could make that one $100 cheaper.

Just did the math on our Apple Store (they just have the taxes) and the cheapest MBP 13 2,3 Ghz should be priced at 2097 euros (probably 99 when ofifcial).

That is just ridiculous. You can buy 2 or 3 better specced common laptops at that price point.

Nothing justifies this level of price gouging. Not MacOS X, trackpad or whatever. And you have to discount the cheap keyboard.

Two or three and better specced. You're going to go for it, right?

Is this serious?

I'd be expecting a lot more than 4 years out of a very expensive laptop.
I'd be funny if that seriously were the case. If anybody could manage to question an Apple representative about these new laptops, the should ask whether the this four-year extension also applies the 2018 MBPs and if they say no, whether that means that the reliability of the keyboard has been improved.

Hmmm, can't bad mouth too much. At least we have a 6-core available now. We have touchbar Macs in rental, keyboards seem to be fine. I guess if you don't drag them through a sand castle you should be fine.

*edit* hmmm weird BTO does not show a 6-core option, nm I was being stupid. Too early.

MagSafe is history. Never coming back and the TouchBar isn’t going anywhere. I’m not sure why people are surprised. They weren’t going to abandon their plans because of a bunch of complainers online.

I know right? Touch Bar is this MBP generation, that's going anywhere either. It works just fine.

Such a shame the worth of OSX's premium has been diminishing in recent years.

Things are the same that they’ve been this century. Perhaps it’s that Mac users never gave high-end PC hardware a chance. Honestly once Adobe improved their product on Windows, the OS was just a matter of preference. It’s not like Windows 10 is the first usable version.

I left Windows because I am tired of performing the redundant maintenance it requires to run well although SSDs improved the situation.

No, I don't buy my laptops. I use what's provided and only keep my iPad at home.

Seeing you are in San Francisco you aren't fortunately exposed to the Great Apple European Rip-off. Regular laptops are a bit more expensive (not much). Apple's on the other hand... Despite that we still have a nice bridge in common.

In this case, all you need is a MacBook or MacBook Air.
My point is that Apple shouldn't be adding the "Pro" label to something that's not Pro.

What if I want the additional resolution from the MBP vs. the Air, or the larger display size vs. the MB? What if I'm a professional developer for backend services, who needs the additional processing power, but not the additional GPU power/heat/consumption, likes the portability of the 13" MBP?

My point being: there's really no correlation to the "Pro" monicker, and the end use, there's plenty of people surfing websites on Pro models, and people doing hardcore development on MBAs, it's really just a feature/spec/price demarcation, so you can't really say "It's not Pro enough", because what does that really mean?

Not for nothing, but apple creates its lineup to meet the majority of consumers, they can't please everyone. I wouldn't qualify that as dropping the ball. They want to promote the TB and so offering a nTB with the same power goes against their business plan

Question for Macrumors. Does it not shock you that with all your and our rumor sources, Apple is still able to pull off these stealth updates without us being able to see them coming? I don't mean that we have no rumors. You obviously report them quite well. But just like this "boom" they are on the website and available for purchase and if you asked folks who are totally clued in what MONTH this was coming in, you would have gotten guesses for August, September and even a few people guessing October.

You don't have to look down you just get used to it.

Stop preaching about things you don't know about!
I’m on the 2016 model, after 1.5 years I still have to look down to locate the position of the slider. Hard to get used to something that’s not at a fixed position.

Also I dislike the Touch Bar sometimes when it makes simple tasks like adjusting the brightness while watching a movie more complicated than on previous keyboards.

Tapping the Bar to activate it, pressing the button and than adjusting the slider feels so much more unintuitive than pressing and holding a single key on the older keyboards.

If the non TB models had TouchID, I would prefer them over my current MBP which is my first Apple computer that I find very underwhelming.

Impulse buy emotions are in me right now, but I am going to chug along with my 2015 MBP a little bit more and see how this plays out. But when I do upgrade, it sure will be maxing out on the 15 inch.

Not really, these quiet updates do happen. Usually we hear rumours of what will be coming, we all kind of figured this was coming but it is a surprise they launched today.
