This promo is different than the typical Education discount, right? College students only? How do you "prove" you're a college student? Student email? ID? My daughter is taking college classes while still in high school, would she qualify?

Why buying a MacBook Pro get the same gift as a iPad Air? Apple would give different versions of Beats before.

For laptops Apple always gave buyers the same reward (choice of Beats Solo or Beats Studio). iPad buyers only got the choice of Beats Solo or they could pay the difference and get the Studio.

Hey all! So as I mentioned, I placed an online order through the education store for same day pickup on May 28th. I called the same store I picked up from and asked to speak with a a manger to explain. She told me no problem and I ask for her when I went in to the store. I had to wait with the social distancing policy, but was worth it. The manger helped me out by returning the macbook and then rebuying the MacBook with airpods. Plus I asked to switch to the new interest free monthly payments. It was a win win. I just brought the box without the MacBook inside. If I didn’t want to change the payments to monthly, she said the return and repurchase with airpods would have been one transaction. I only had a return and rebuy (2 transactions) because I wanted to change payment from all up front to monthly. I got the airpod pros too! Very happy! Call and speak the store manager before going in. Only managers can do it when it is outside the 14 days.

My understanding is that anyone who qualifies for the education discount can benefit from this back to school promotion.

I guess proof would entail showing that you have an email account belonging to an educational institution, though Apple has shown to be pretty lax when enforcing this.

I sold my beats when I got my macbook for $180. Bad deal including airpods. Also students buying a MacBook most likely have airpods so what will they do with it?

Heh, last year I bought my college-bound daughter a laptop with the Beats deal. She said she'd never use them, but wanted me to get the blush pink ones just in case. I told her no chance, I'll buy the blue ones because either I'd use them or I'd sell them and get her some Airpods. And after staring at the unopened box sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks, I finally decided I didn't need them and listed them for sale. And while I don't remember the exact price, I sold them on FB Marketplace to someone local and just three days later every online vendor dropped the price of beats to somewhere around fifty bucks lower than what I sold them for. Got lucky there.

You sound like a dbag. Let your daughter have her beats

But I mean come on - they should know most Apple users already have the airpods ... ugh

You can always resell it for a few extra bucks. Or gift it to someone who doesn’t have it. Either way, it’s a nice complement for a student or teacher who has to participate in video calls more often these days.

ou can probably try to call again and speak to a different representative because I just saw a comment that said they ordered theirs May 28th, and they were able to receive the deals.
I called again and they gave me the pro's for the $90 difference, so it worked out in the end. Originally scheduled to arrive tomorrow but coming Wednesday, not a big deal.

Man, we just bought two 2020 iPad Pros two weeks ago using the education discount.

I know! Just one week ago today I purchased a MacBook Pro with the education discount. I honestly didn’t think they’d start the back-to-school promo this early. 😕

ETA: Actually, after reading through this thread, I’m going to call or go into the store and try to get the AirPods; it’s worth a shot!

My son would love some airpods, but I know he would lose one or both of them within weeks, so it ain't happening, unless he decides to waste his own money on them.

Best value would be the discounted MacBook Air 2020 and iPad Pro 2020 coupled with a free AirPods.

Cheapest would be to get the iPad Air but it's on its way out.

I got my 13" MBP on the 5th March from an Apple Store and have been looking to return it within the 14 day period since then. Had 3 conversations with Apple that have confirmed that as the shops closed my 14 days starts again when UK shops re-opened (as they did in UK yesterday). So hopefully this promotion goes live soon so I can get the AirPods Pro (pay the difference).

Apple today launched its annual "Back to School" promotion in the United States and Canada. After five years of offering free Beats, Apple this year is offering free AirPods with the purchase of an eligible new Mac or iPad.

Qualifying students and educators can receive free second-generation AirPods with a wired charging case with the purchase of a new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, iMac Pro, iPad Pro, or iPad Air. During the checkout process, it it also possible to upgrade to second-generation AirPods with a wireless charging case for $40 or to AirPods Pro for $90.

As usual, the standard iPad, iPad mini, Mac mini, and refurbished products are not eligible for the Back to School promotion.

The free AirPods are in addition to Apple's educational pricing, which allows students to save up to $200 off a Mac and up to $100 off an iPad Pro. The promotion runs until September 29, 2020 and is available through Apple's education store on the web, at Apple's retail stores where open, or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.

For purchases made using Apple Card Monthly Installments, you will receive an instant credit of $159, which will be applied as a discount to your eligible iPad or Mac at the time of purchase. Then, the cost of the AirPods will be billed in six monthly installments. Apple provides more details in its full terms and conditions for the promotion.

The promotion does not appear to be live in Europe or other regions at this time.

does Apple usually only do one back to school deal per summer? Or do they have multiple?

Wow. Did you read the post?

There’s always the educational pricing, but typically only one BtS deal per year, although sometimes it differs between countries or regions.

Why do people buy stuff from Apple knowing damn well when the product cycles happen more or less??? SMFH LOL

I'm disappointed no Beats are being given anymore. I'm finally gonna upgrade from a 2013 15" MBPr to a 16" MBP, I may just get a refurbished one, get an even bigger discount than the student discount and forego the airpods.

Just gonna wait for WWDC and see what they say about ARM Macs in the near future.

I wonder if they started the back to school promo earlier than usual just to reduce some iMac inventory before WWDC?

Doubt it, students aren't buying iMacs for college. I think it's starting now because of COVID-19 many schools are moving the fall quarter start to earlier than normal. Also last weekend school has pretty much ended for the majority of the US population, so why not get them to buy Apple devices by throwing in free AirPods now?

Just ordered the 4 port 13inch MBP with the free standard AirPods for pickup at my local store. Gonna return the 2019 base model I bought right when things shut down so I'm hoping I don't get any hassle with that. Still debating on keeping the AirPods since my current pair are 2 and a half years old and the battery life could be better. Or just sell them.

Bummer for those that use the freebie to subsidize the cost of the device purchase. I flipped my Beats last year for a little over $200. Good luck getting more than about $115 for a pair of airpods.
