No it doesn’t, unless you didn’t pass math class.

You’re paying $899 plus tax. The gift card can’t be applied to the purchase and even if it could it’s applied post-taxes.
Exactly, Apple will get your $899 and likely even more when you use that $150 towards something more...

So could I drag my neice into a Apple Store and buy her (and by her I mean me) a MacBook Air and get the education discount and the gift card?

You don’t need to drag anybody.

Parents are eligible. The child doesn’t need to be present. Apple won’t force you to take a paternity test or pull out adoption papers either.

If that doesn’t work, tell them you’re a homeschool teacher. There is no proof to provide for that.

TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP PLZ:🥲

Im trying to buy an iPad Air through the education discount they have rn. They have it going for $549, and they claim I will get a $100 gift card since im getting an iPad Air. But when I add it to my cart, I start to get confused about the pricing of everything...

The iPad (now in my shopping cart) is still listed as $549 but in small red text it says "special offer -$100 = $449" Im not sure if this means that the $100 gift card is already being applied at checkout towards my iPad, because below that, is a $100 gift card in my shopping cart.

I KNOW THIS SOUNDS DUMB: But,,, does that mean that Im paying $449 for the iPad and being charged for the $100 gift card to make the total as shown $549? Which means they're pretty much getting away with giving "free" $100 gift cards when in reality it's still being added to the total cost?

Or does it mean Im paying full price ($549) and that the gift card is indeed free?

Im only confused on this because im not sure why it would say "special offer -$100 = $450" unless its already being applied at checkout, which conflicts with the text underneath the gift card saying the gift card will be sent to me later on once they ship the iPad?? Im sorry if this sounds confusing, but I just wanna make sure im paying a fair price.

They discount the iPad/Mac and charge full price for the gift card. They probably do this to reduce the post-tax cost since there is no tax on the gift card. Also this means if you decide to return the iPad/Mac you will only get back the discounted amount and you are stuck with the gift card because those aren’t refundable.

And why would it say "total promotional savings = $100" if the gift card isn't applied yet?

You’re buying the gift card, but Apple is then discounting by $100.

You pay $549 plus tax out of pocket.

They charge you for the gift card and deduct $100 from the price of the iPad. That way, if you do a return Apple can refund the iPad price without trying to either void a gift card or deduct it from the iPad price if it has been used. As a bonus, since gift cards are not refundable they get your $100 float until you use it.

This is great for those of us who used to need to sell the gift on eBay etc to get the cash back.

In-store they sometimes check for education ID.

They never check online.

I bought a new 14” MBP last week during my M2 MBA dilemma. I called Apple to ask for back to school promo, and apparently they already had a note on my account about plans to send me the promotion.

They just applied my BTS promotion post order, gift card arriving next week. Thank god I didn’t have to do a return. 👍🏻

So do you still get the gift card?
