It's subjective.
I have one. It looks fine. Especially since you don't spend much time on the home screen, nor much time within the apps themselves.

There is no compelling reason why the Nano should look like an iPhone. It is a dedicated portable media player (primarily music) and it is designed for that purpose. And for many, it does it better than the iPod Touch or iPhone can do it. (The iPod Touch is an iPod in name only and essentially a non-phone iPhone.)

Apple has done a masterful job in shepherding their customers away from dedicated devices toward the iPhone. That is evident by many comments posted in this thread by people who don't understand why anyone would want/need a dedicated portable media player.

Well I too really like my 7th gen nano, and agree that I don’t spend a lot of time contemplating the look of the icons in its UI. It’s usually sitting at a paused track in some long playlist of favorites, so what I’m looking at once I get past whatever clockface I’ve put on the thing on a given day, is the album cover for the track in progress.

On my copy of that device, besides the FM radio (with that nice option to pause and rewind up to 15 minutes of a live broadcast), are currently the following entertaining options:

Let’s see... 967 music tracks, 2 full length movies, 1 Apple keynote video podcast, 3 TV shows, 5 long audiobooks, 20 regular playlists, 12 smart playlists, 2 Genius playlists and a partridge in a pear tree (well... a handful of photos) and, wait for it: 3GB of unused storage space. I like a lot of different kinds of music so we’re talking anything from blues to Bartok and back to before the Bachs. Talk about a home enetertainment center! I come from an era where radios used to take up a space the size of a three-pack of paper towels, and they weighed 15 pounds and fetched in a handful of static-laden stations.

And then this nano has bluetooth for wireless connection, e.g. to speakers. And six clock faces, with one of them having room for clocks in two extra time zones that you can pick. And a timer (with options on what to do when it hits zero), stopwatch, fitness tracker, settings for accessibility improvements, dah dah dah.

One ounce. Smaller than a pack of gum. One hundred fifty bucks. All that functionality. What’s not to like? Trouble-free since 2012 when I opened the box.

FIVE YEARS, 150 BUCKS, NO PROBLEMS.

Eight cents a day for a box of magic. They can skip updating the icons for all I care!

If I didn’t have a product red one, I’d go for the blue one right now. I’m happy Apple continues to support this line and the shuffles as well. They pack a lot of usefulness and fun into tiny and very, very sturdy containers.

Heh but I do have this red nano already. So I’m going for the new 32GB blue iPod touch. But I might get blue and pink nanos for my great-nieces for Christmas this year. They liked playing with my red one.

Well this should take care of those remaining iPod fans who longed for an iPod to replace the large storage capacity of the iPod Classic.

Apple today introduced the sixth-generation iPod touch with a 4-inch display, 64-bit A8 chip and M8 motion coprocessor, 8-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera and new colors: blue, pink, silver, space gray, gold and red. 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models are available through the Apple Online Store starting today for $199, $249 and $299 respectively, while a new larger 128GB model was introduced for $399.

The new iPod touch also features 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, no longer has a loop attachment and comes with iOS 8.4 preinstalled for access to Apple Music and Beats 1. The 128GB and (PRODUCT)RED models will be sold exclusively through Apple, while all other colors and storage capacities should be available through authorized resellers such as Best Buy and Walmart in the near future.

Apple also updated the iPod shuffle and iPod nano with a matching lineup of colors, but no other hardware or storage capacity changes to the devices were made. iPod nano and iPod shuffle maintain their prices of $149 and $49 respectively and currently ship within 1 business day on the Apple Online Store.iPods have become an increasingly minor business for Apple over the past several years, with only 2.6 million units sold in Q4 2014, the last quarter when Apple reported iPod sales. Beyond new colors and storage capacities, Apple had last updated the iPod touch and nano in October 2012 and the iPod shuffle in September 2010.

Maybe this will be the last update to iPod touch. Seeing how the iPod section itself is gone from the top menu of Apple.com

Maybe there's also a bigger reason behind them giving it the A8 and latest BT technology...

No auto brightness sensor? So annoying!
If the technology is available to reduce manual functions then why don't they utilize it.
If it had the sensor I would have bought one in a flash. But now I'm hesitant. Might just get the iPhone instead.

No touch id
no apple pay
no improve resolution
nothing special

i hope iphone 6S not like this

apple make billion money a years- where all those money they using for - time to upgrade real upgrade

thank you-

Inane whining means ignore. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, the rear-camera is still protruding. The strange part is that it is the same camera as the iPad Air 2, so I don't understand why they didn't just imitate that version?

Its much thinner that's why. Seriously why can't people actually realize there is a reason most cameras poke and its not flight of fancy.

I don't need or want an iPod right now. If people want to have music and videos on their iPhone they should get 64 GB or 128GB!! Apple really has to do something out of the ordinary for me to get and iPod.

That's crazy!!

It's a shame. I used the Nano in the store today and really do like it. I'd bought one instantly if it had 32GB for $170 or less.

$170 for 32GB is too much, but I would of paid it. But $150 for 16GB is unacceptable. And the fact that they just changed the colors and called it new sickens me. I think I'm going to pay $70 to get my 5th generation refurbished. My local store can give me another unit in store.

That was my initial thought too, but owning a 3rd gen and a 6th gen, this latest one is not that bad a price IMO. Given the dearth of dedicated portable media players, I'm somewhat surprised that Apple still offers one. And rather than get caught without one (as I was with the surprise demise of the iPod Classic) I wanted to make sure that I had the latest Nano.

The issue for me is not the price, but the fact that only the space grey model has a black bezel. A few months ago I picked up a space grey model. I'd love to have the option of color and bezel color.

I will probably end up getting a 64GB iPod Touch. The updated hardware is enough to get me to buy one. But I'm left with the same dilemma. I'd like to get a silver or gold one, but the white bezel is killing me. :)

I'm not going to lie, I may get a 7th gen Nano in the future. Especially if Apple ever discontinues it I'll rush out and get one that day. The thing is, why buy one for $150 when I can get a refurb 5th gen for $70. I hate batteries. That's the only thing that tends to go bad in these things. :p

I agree with the bezel. While I really love the new darker Space Gray color, I might have gotten a blue one, but I hate white bezels. Mainly because when the device off you don't get a sleek black surface, but a white rectangle with a gaping black hole in it. I remember that with the 5th generation Nanos, the silver and black ones had a black click wheel. I don't know why Apple decided that anything that isn't a dark shade of gray needs a white face.

EDIT: another thing I like about the current Nano is the software. The old OS uses a black face for the music playback UI which I like. If it does get an update I'm sure it will go all white like iOS and OS X.

No hardware upgrades for the iPod Nano, only a new paint job? That's very disappointing. The nano is the best iPod model, and it's been out for several years. Apple couldn't be bothered upgrading the sound quality, and/or adding some new features (like an EQ with custom presets)? Not impressed...

if the colors transfer to iphone, it looks as if they'll be for the 6s.. not 6c (if that even happens again).
the 5c colors were of plastic.. these colors are the metal.
sure ;-)
I just wanted to highlight that I would like have some more colourful options (thus the 6c:)
BTW: the 5c is still a great product, go for the "c-line", Apple …

If they bring out a 6c with a 4" screen, I'd go for it. If they don't, I'll stick with my green 5c, which I love, and tether the new iPod touch to it for any occasions on which the 5c seems too far behind the curve. After all I think I already swore I'd go for a dumb phone before I'd get a phone with a bigger screen, and if I did, then I meant it! And, I love the sturdy steel frame and rugged plastic of my 5c, it can really take a joke.

Not sure the sight of my new blue iPod touch tethered to a nearby green 5c with a yellow dots cover will make page one of fashion news, but hey... it would work okay for me. Function over form!

One little rant. All these new colors are great. One problem for me. With iPhones, iPods, iPads, I really can't stand the white surround/buttons (shuffle). So you can guess which color all my devices are because only ONE color has a black face. Space Grey. All the others have white faces. On that front, it would nice to be able to get black cords/headphones with models that have black faces instead of white that turns to crap grey over time. So for me, all these choices for colors are really not choices at all. Just never been a fan of all this white business. That's a bit of a problem if your an Apple fan:)

I agree. One nice thing about the 5c is that those bright colours all have a black front/bezel (even the white one!). Let's hope that the 6c retains that.

If a white front has become dull or grey over time, try applying some glass cleaner with a cloth, it may just bring it back to shiny white. Careful with glass fronts though, they have an oleophobic coating wich might get damaged by the alcohol, but those don't tend to get dirty anyways. With white iPod click wheels or the keys of external Apple keyboards, it'll work fine.

Who still buys iPods? Apple should've killed off the product since it's hardly necessary.
