this might be a dumb question but does this rebate apply to refurbished iMac's?

I know the rules say "new computer"....but I'm still not sure if that means refurbed or not...

If you do it online, they ask you for your university's name and your uni ID (that's how it is in Canada). In store, they'll ask to see your uni ID card.

I have a question about multiple promotions. How would you be able to get the free iPod Touch and a free printer because both rebate forms require you to send in your Mac UPC label and receipt. OK, with your receipt, you can make a copy or ask for two copies from the store but what about the Mac UPC label?

i just did a rebate form for the printer last week. it is all online now, and you don't have to send anything to them. I got my check in less than 10 days.

Who needs this when we will all get the new phone. Nothing that great and why purchase this just to have to get a rebate and then sell it off later. Not worth it. Here's to dual 2.7 MBPs by Sept.

Dual 2.7?

Heck, aren't the 4 cores out already on the pc and apparently supposed to be on the MBP by DEC?

i should have known...

i should have known that apple was not going to allow you to trade your ipod touch for an iphone. apple probably not only wants the entire world to own a ipod but also an iphone. and the funny thing is that people will spend the money for both.

I just got a replacement Macbook Pro 2 days ago. Oh well; not paying restocking to lose $20 :(

I think if you qualify you should be able to get it - talk to a really cool manager and express that you buy (they can check though) a lot of apple stuff, or say your business does, or you recommend apple to everyone.

You will get it.

let me know.
:apple:

Not saying it's not a good deal because it is, but likely we will see new iPods soon.

I remember one year new iPods came out while the Back to School promotion was still on, you were unable to get the new iPods for free, instead you had to order an old one.

Still a great deal to get $299 off a iPod Touch, but if you want the latest and greatest, get the Touch free, sell it quickly and then buy the new model when it comes out!

Agreed, clear them out then make the new ipods able to get online ala 3G like the new iphone, presently, the touch is a bit misleading, you can only get online with wi fi, I think this issue will be resolved. You heard it here first (grin)

Ummm... I just bought a Macbook Pro on May 15th. Is there any way I could benefit from this promo as I am a college student?

Word-to-the-Wise

If you intend to sell the iPod Touch a word-to-the-wise; wait until 2.0 has been released. The iPod Touch owners will be charged a nominal fee to upgrade to 2.0 ($20).

If you don't NEED a new computer wait closer to September when buying guides suggest SOMETHING will have been upgraded.

How do they know if your a college student? Do they ask for a an ID number or something during online checkout or what? Cant you just say you go to NYU or something and buy with the discount even though its not allowed? :D

You need a college id, even old one will work. I took some classes after going after my EE at a local college (music) and some editing in the future, the card works for apple as well as movies (20%), so worth while to take a class or two, besides, it would be good for you. Take a photography, music or editing class ((grin)). Or find one online, about the same price, less books.

True story, have a friend, bar tender, he bought a PC/Vegas and good graphics card, edited his wedding, .... After being married a month or two his credit improved, he applied online for Apple Credit and got a dual G5, (I remember how impressed I was with the templates of imovie 06 and FCP) (thus I hope it never comes out for PC, (haha), anyway, he starts to shoot more weddings, gets a lot of gigs, rents nice camera's, then has enough to buy one, moves home to Kansas (from Pasadena CA), has two children, buys a house, becomes the chief editor for a firm, and next time I see him, he has a macbook pro and MAYA and is really good at editing.

All because he bought a mac and learned iMovie/FCP....I'm telling you, as a composer, I too am learning FCP very deep and MAYA, this will be the future, editors, unlike composers, are needed all the time.....and it pays well. Then when you become successful as an editor, you will probably have no problems adding your music down the road (if you're a composer, sound designer),

:)

Just my .03 cents on why taking a class is always a good thing plus of course the discount. If you know someone at apple, you have them buy the END OF LIFE PRODUCT for you. e.g. When new MBP 2.4 ($1999) came out, the $2499 MBP GLOSSY became END OF LIFE and was able to get for $1000 off - - if I sell it (which I will when new MBP's come out), I will get my money back easy.

TAKE A CLASS! LOL

All rebates are online - no more cutting out UPC code anymore, so not sure, but its all done at apple.com/promo and done online. Maybe someone can check it out - as they now link apple care auto enroll, so maybe it has something to do with the receipt? Someone care to confirm? Apple.com/promo?

Sorry if it's been asked in advance, but what sort of proof of eligibility does Apple usually require from prospective students for these kinds of promotions when ordering online?

In my case, I'm currently a professional working in the industry but will start business school in the fall.
I have a letter of admission from the university, would that be enough?

Thanks
-Marc

Most of the time they don't even ask for that exact reason. It's on the honor system. But sometimes they'll want proof of paid tuition or a copy of your student ID. Obviously there will be a certain amount of leeway if you haven't begun yet as they're certainly not going to exclude high school graduates about to start college. It all just depends on the individual case. They don't force everyone to prove it. But the risk of having to prove it is usually enough to make sure everyone doesn't rush online and pretend to be a student.

Yes and no. No because you are past the 14 days of return.

However, if you go to the APPLE STORE on a regular basis, find what they call the "LEAD" specialist, this person although not a manager, has the power to override, tell them that (fill in a name from another specialist or a friend from work) said if they talked to you that you (meaning them) might be able to return this as non opened box, and resell it to you with the ipod, all you would need is the receipt. Really, they do have the power, it all depends on how chummy you are with them and if you can sweet talk them. They can do about anything they want and so can a manager.

I will go further to say that if you can show a print out that you are starting (surely you can make a document) or log on to a university web mail will be enough to prove it.

This is a very good promo.
I'll wait after WWDC and then buy one for my wife unless there is some crzy news about upcoming macbooks.

I've mentioned a few times in this thread that i've done the new rebate program. They print a special number on your receipt, you fill out a short form, and they mail it out to you. I got my check in 9 days from purchase (including the weekend and a bank holiday).

Is the ipod touch difficult to work while driving or doing something that takes full attention?

Back TO School promo question???

Are the new Intel processors and possibly aluminum casing going to come out prior to the back to school promotion ending. Macrumors.com is saying that the update is expected in the 3rd Q (July to September). I'm wondering whether there is a point of waiting.
thanks :)
Also, will they run out of the itouches by then?

Yes, that will suffice. At least, it worked for me a few years ago when I tried it.
