They do random audits where you must provide proof (ie class schedule). For the vast majority, you're taken on your word.
I don't understand why they didn't keep the same system as how you regularly enter the Apple Education online store, by entering your student number/ID once you choose your university/college.

I am up at UConn and I went to go buy an iMac and the guy said the iPod promotion didn't start till next week. He said they got an email that it started on the 3rd, but they aren't getting a shipment of iPods until mid next week.....lame.

I can enter the Apple Education Online Store simply by entering in a University... Is this different for you?

It is much simpler for Apple not to have an ID number for every University and College student in the United States.

Here's my question though...

I bought a MB back in late January, and my aging PC is due to be relegated to "kid's machine" duty soon. My wife has talked about getting another laptop, and I figured it would be a good time for me to upgrade to a MBP and give her the MB. Either that, or I might decide on an iMac.

My question is this:

According to the Apple website,
Apple Website said:
PURCHASE QUANTITY
Faculty, Staff and Students purchasing from the Apple Store for Education Individuals will be allowed to purchase the following quantities of product per academic school year:

Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per academic year

Does this mean I can purchase my new MBP or iMac in late August seeing as it is the beginning of a new academic year for my school, or does Apple do the Jan-December thing?

I already have an iPhone so an iPod Touch wouldn't make or break any deals, but seeing as we're in the market anyway, free is free.

Why don't you drive down to Westfarms and buy it at the Apple Store there? It's less than an hour from UConn and I am sure they have iPods and iMacs in stock and you can use your student discount there as well.

Hi,
I'm a dutch student and have booked a trip to Vegas in July. Do you think it is possible to benefit from the back to school promo while i'm there? It is not stated in the terms and conditions, that you have to be a U.S. citizen or have to be enrolled in a school or university in the U.S.
But i wonder if you must fill out on the rebate-form, which school or university you're from. Can anyone who filled out this form, answer this question? I noted, that you do need to fill out an address in the U.S. That will be no problem, because we're going to visit my boyfriends uncle.

Hi, I have a quick question.

I am getting a MacBook Black this summer, and I was wondering if I can get this offer at Fry's if I tell them about this...?

Thanks.

The site says nothing about resellers offering this promotion.

Woo... I bought my MBP on may 15th and I walked into the store with my box and receipt in hand and the first person I came to I said "I know I am a few days outside of your 14 day return policy but I was hoping you guys could help me out with a return/rebuy." And they pointed me directly to a cashier and the whole thing went off without a hitch.

When I called earlier on the phone I was told "14 days". But I'm glad I went in-store and tried cuz now I have an iPod touch for about $20!

If Apple says per academic year, then you're free to interpret that to mean whatever type of calendar your institution is on is fine.

If you're on the quarter system, then that's typically September to June.
If you're on the semester system, then that's typically August to May.

However, many other types of schedules exist. The term "academic year" is not defined by Apple - you must define it with your own circumstances.

Thanks. I'm on the semester system. New Apple in August!

hi guys/gals,

i just purchased my first mac, a 20" imac, and took advantage of this deal... i already had an ipod touch but i paid $100 extra for a 16gb and gave it to my sister-in-law.

anyways i read above that some of you did the rebate online, im in Canada and in the store was told i have to cut out the UPC labels, etc, etc. and it takes 6 weeks to get my check :(

anybody have experience with canadian apple store yet? maybe the online rebate is just in US?

thanks! can't wait to start using my iMac!

I just ordered a new MBP, going to give mine to my sister as she's going off to college. Great deal! Hope that we (Canada) can do the rebate online, that would be sweet. Went for the 32gig IPT, hopefully there aren't any major updates on Monday, not that a trip to the local apple store won't sort that afterwards.

Pretty pumped for my new comp!

hey, congrats on the purchase.
i compared the apple store for US online vs the Canada online store and for US its submit form ONLINE before oct 15 and in Canada it is MAIL IN with UPC labels (within 30 days according to the rep in store).
sucks but hope that clears it up for some of us Canadian buyers.

It's the same for me, but I meant PRIOR to this promotion; to access the Education online store, after you chose your university/college, you were required to enter your ID before you can access the 100-200$ savings etc...

I wasn't planning on getting a new Mac before college this year, well, I was planning on it, but my budget situation doesn't agree. I have a nice little PowerBook, and would like to go to the MacBook Pro, but again, cash flow, and I really don't want to settle for a MacBook, rather wait. However, with this, I might go for it. I have an iPhone, so I really don't need the Touch, so I could sell it, as I have a few friends that might buy it. Humm, decisions. Do I really need 512 Video memory anyways? I was planning on going with the second tier 15 inch model, but I can't seem to see much of a difference between the two that makes it worth spending that much more.

im not sure why some of the recent buyers didnt wait till wwdc just in case there are updates since its not that far off now. maybe not everyone is as careful/patient as me. more power to you i spose

Like I said in my post above, if updates are at WWDC then its just a matter of taking comp to local Apple store and getting it upgraded (under 14 day). This way if no updates come (none are seriously rumoured for MBP) then I will have my comp sooner ;)

For Singapore, you can only get the promotion only is it? can you get the rebate in store?

Bought a MBP on May 17th. Went to store with receipt in hand. Walked out 5 minutes later with a touch. Now I just need to decide what to do with it (Keep or sell). I wish I could have gotten a classic instead.
