i really prefer from best buy because it's insurance covers accidental but i guess doing it online would be easier, i could just get my mom's credit card info and order it myself from apple.com i just hate waiting for the shipping stuff lol. My other option is to drive about 45 mins to the nearest apple store but it would probably be more complicated because i need to purchase with my mothers credit card. I wish i could just go and buy it at a store without having it this complicated

So If I get my 8gb touch in the mail on friday does that mean I can take it back to the store and exchange it for something like....say.... some bose headphones?

No you can't return it. Haven't you ever done a rebate? Sell it on ebay without opening it if you don't want to keep it.

I have a teacher friend who is going to let me use her discount. But is that even really necessary? Is the verification process as non-existent as it seems? Do I just have to type in a school name and I'll get the discounts and rebates?

Umm... I'd go with your teacher friend ....

(Contrary to the last reply you got on here, it's NOT cheating to ask a teacher friend to buy one of these on your behalf. Apple puts limits on how many discounted systems an educator can get per year. So if she buys 1 desktop for someone else, she can't buy another with a discount until the following year ... although she can still get 1 notebook system.)

The verification process appears to be a "random spot check" type of affair. Plenty of people will tell you they ordered as a student online, picked a school in their area which they may or may not have ever even attended, and received the discount. BUT, there are also stories of Apple staff doing follow-ups on some orders and canceling ones where they found out the customer wasn't enrolled at the claimed school.

And though I don't know if they've ever done so, the fine print in some of the Apple agreements for educational discounts used to reserve the right for Apple to pursue legal action against people fraudulently making claims of qualifying for a discount.

You have 7 classes in a day ? Back in my college years, it was 2 or 3 classes per day max, not all required huge books, and I could easily leave the unneeded books in my car.

Man, get a better schedule.

Laughing. Well it's Ph.D, and if I could I would :) I have a total of 15 books. The research is a bear :)

I recently purchased a MBP 13'' at the beginning of the month using the educational pricing...Would I still be able to get the iPod touch?

So basically you'd like to know what is the easiest way to cheat?

That's one way to look at it. Or the easiest way to give Apple only 1800 dollars of my money instead of 1900.

Of course, the sales rep couldn't care less. When they couldn't find her school at first, the sales rep said "no biggie, I could just type in anything" and of course the sales rep saw me pay with my credit card and not my teacher friend's.

And I'm pretty sure Apple was cool with it too considering they're not making it difficult for anyone to use it. But hey, if you're in the market for a new Mac and you feel too guilty about typing in a college name to save a hundred bucks and get a free iPod that Apple wants to unload to make room for the new ones you're a better man than me. Though I still have the larger penis.

Question

Okay, so I intend on getting my first Mac next month.
I am going to get the 13 inch macbook pro.
If i purchase the macbook at an apple retail store, do i still qualify?
Or is this offer only online?
Also, how does the rebate work? (I've never participated in one of these)
will apple send me a check for $199 if i get the 8gb iPod Touch?
Thanks everyone!
and sorry if i asked a stupid question.

also, i will be entering High School next year. My school requires us to have a laptop for bringing to school.
I qualify for the student discount and rebate online, will this be the same at the retail store?
Since this offer is for back to college. But on the online store it says i can qualify for High School.

Yes. same at store. just bring your id. but if im not mistaken i thought it was for college students only. i got my free ipod through the retail store

i thought that to, but online, anyone can just post a school and get the discount.
Im getting it for High School, and i can do that online, but can i do that in store? Since its only for college supposedly?

When I asked someone at the apple store they say you'll have to show your student ID, so I guess if you're going that way the online store's probably the better option...

well i do have a student ID so i'll show it, but for example say if a parent wants to buy the mac as a gift for their student, they wouldnt be able to prove it right? how would the parent be able to obtain the mac and ipod touch rebate? plus the student discount on the mac?

sorry for digging up this thread but i have a quick question. I purchased my iMac on September 3rd with my education discount through my local apple store and forgot about this deal. Is there anyway i can call up apple and see if i can still get the deal. If so whats the number i call. haha im a total newb at this.

You got it. Do the free printer too. If you don't need it just Craigslist it and make a few bucks. :)
