Apple Launches 'Back to School' Promo: Free iPod With Mac Purchase for Students

I'm a pretty tolerant guy

You and everyone who thinks like you should just leave.

Oh, the irony, LOL. You must be one of them "tolerant" liberals huh?

As for the Apple discount, I am truly objective, because I am neither a student or in the military or a senior citizen, and I was simply saying that there are more deserving groups than students.

As somebody else pointed out, Apple is not doing this promo because of philanthropy, and they're of course right.

Hey whiny, why the military?

Why not? Many American companies support the troops by offering rebates or discounts to people in the military.

And I'm hardly whining. I'm simply offering an alternate point of view which a few fascist minded people apparently find objectionable.

:)

Loving your doublethink here cowboy. So you're accusing people of fascism whilst asking companies to support a government-backed organisation of trained killers? You were talking about irony earlier, know what it means?

But .....

Apple *does* offer a military discount, as well as a govt. employee discount, and one for people who are employed by one of a number of companies they give corporate discounts to.

These just aren't publicized on their web-site like the educational discounts are.....

This promotion ends just in time for the iPod Touch refresh in September, which is usually on the 9th on September. The promotion ends on the 7th as you can see and only offers the 8GB iPod Touch 2nd generation. this is a great way for Apple to reduce their number of older devices. can't wait for the new iPhone HD or Pro and the new iPod Touch 4th generation.

Started in Europe now too (at least in Finland). And we only get a 160 € rebate! How lame! Gonna end up paying 19 € for the 16 GB nano or 39 € for the 8 GB touch. Not happy with this one. Damn Americans get more discount than us! :(

Oh well, I guess I'll get a red 16 GB nano and see see how it works. I've never actually used a traditional iPod. If I don't like it, I'll sell it. If I do like it, I'm probably still gonna sell it. :p

return?

So If I get my 8gb touch in the mail on friday does that mean I can take it back to the store and exchange it for something like....say.... some bose headphones?

Just got this deal in Japan - promotion ended yesterday. Hadn't bought a new Mac in 4 years, so of course I'm in love with my new MBP.

Will new releases be elligible

Question: I'm starting grad school in a few months and want to get the 13" MBP (with educational pricing) + free iPod in this promo. And I actually wanted to buy these two things tomorrow.

But from what others have said, WWDC is happening in June, and there's a good chance there will be something cool, like a camera on the iPod Touch. Will any of the new and upgraded items be eligible for this back to school thing? If not, I don't see any reason to wait until June for WWDC to happen.

I just asked the store about this but they just said that they couldn't give information on products they don't currently offer.

UK site are also giving you a free printer along with your £130 discount. They advised me the free printer offer (worth £70) finishes today!!

I just ordered my 13" macbook pro w/ the ipod touch 8gb, however I noticed that my student discount was only 7.5% ($100) on the computer. For some reason I thought a student discount was 10%.

Lovely to see a subject as simple as a student incentive has descended into "derp you hate our freedoms" political slapfighting. Good work team.

Anyway, took full advantage of this deal earlier today. Got a 15" i5 and a black iPod Classic coming my way. And you'll all be glad to know that I have absolutely no intention of using either to further my education, and feel I totally and utterly deserve this nice deal above government-sponsored killers and old people.

It's pretty safe that there won't be anything at WWDC in terms of updates to the Macbook or Macbook Pro line as they were all just updated so this would be a good time. It doesn't matter anyway, it's not like the promo ends before WWDC in order to con people into buying into the promotion.

last year there was a price cut and a refresh. and apple does this promotion every year so all you have to do is wait and sell the ipod if you don't want it

I am against Apple student rebates.

What about other segments of the population that Apple could also give rebates to, who are more deserving than students? Military rebates and Senior Citizen rebates would be a good idea.

Anyone can easily go online to the educational store and choose a school in order to purchase.

I wish this wasn't a mail in rebate. It's taking me a while to save up all the money for the high end 15" MBP. I don't know if I'll be able to have the extra few hundred to get a discounted iPod classic. >/

Complicated situation

I went in a hurry today to best buy and asked one of the workers if they would match the bts special, he just said they didn't but i don't think he really knew, he seemed lazy and unmotivated to sell and since i was in a hurry i didn't ask him any more questions and left to my class. Does anyone know if best buy will do this too, i know they have some kind of a price match policy. I have heard that in previous years they did and you didn't have to have the money for the ipod up front you just get it free. The reason i want to buy if from best buy is because there is no apple store in my area, and its my mother who will be buying this for me with her best buy credit card, plus i prefer best buys insurance. Also i go to school in Michigan and my mother lives in Minnesota does any one know if my mother can still purchase this for me or authorize me to do the purchase in Michigan with her card?? Thanks to whoever replies

I doubt BB will Price match since it's not a price apple has advertised, but a rebate. I know it's splitting hairs, but it makes a difference. However, that doesn't mean you can't go into BB and try and convince someone.

Why not just purchase it online rather than doing the whole mom thing? I'm sure you can, they usually ask for student ID, or a schedule, so maybe she can print out the schedule with your name on it and let them know she's buying it for her son/daughter/etc.
