So many people bitching and moaning about this.. I used it last year, glad it's back this year.. it's a very handy deal. In the UK, I seem to get about 13% off as a student, plus a free £139 or whatever it was last year iPod.. makes for a very handy discount. Good deal. Someone said in the UK it was only August and September.. that's not right, I ordered June or July I think last year with this promotion. I imagine it will start again shortly in the UK and Europe..

I personally hate mail in rebates. Every time I get a product with a mail in rebate promotion, I never get around sending it in

I felt this way too, but I just recently purchased the new 13" macbook pro with the 100$ printer rebate.. couldn't have been easier...

All you do is go online, type in your address/information & a number at the bottom of your receipt and hit submit. Just got my 100$ check after 1.5 weeks, there was no sending in forms, cutting out UPCs, nothing.. couldn't have been easier.

Last year was apparently the first year when it started about the same time pretty much all over the world (in Europe & USA at least). Before it started later in Europe, August or something. I hope they changed the schedule for good, because I need a MBP ASAP.

Apple's new rebate process is pretty slick now though... no sending anything in or cutting out UPC codes. Go online, and enter in your order number and that's it - check sent to you in about two weeks.

Good to see my experience wasn't unique.

i ordered my unibody pro on may 21, still waiting for it (says it'll get here tomorrow). saw the promo today (may 25) and called in to ask if i could avail to the offer. the guy said i could and asked which ipod i wanted. i ordered the free 8 gb and because of the timing or something, i didn't need a rebate form and they were sending it free of charge. pretty awesome.

I bought a 13" MBP on 5/11 and they honored the free ipod for me too. Had to go the rebate route, but I'm not complaining!

I was going to ask about the printer thing too. I thought that I remembered reading that last year or year before that a printer was included as well as the iPod in the back to school special. But judging from your comments it sounds like it is a separate rebate? What exactly is the printer deal? A $100 off which printer? And I would definitely like to know if both rebates could be used together.

I am against Apple student rebates.

What about other segments of the population that Apple could also give rebates to, who are more deserving than students? Military rebates and Senior Citizen rebates would be a good idea.

Apple isn't doing this to be philanthropic. It has nothing to do with abstract notions of who is more or less deserving. Like most companies that offer promotions, they're looking to improve their bottom line. They target the promotion at a market segment that is likely to increase its purchasing when given the offer. If their marketing department concluded that military or seniors offered as good or better profit potential, then they would probably get the offer.

They could just offer it to everybody, but there are probably some different motivations involved, like the probability that younger customers will become locked in as future Apple customers, and some point of diminishing return where giving away too many free iPods will be a net negative for them. In any case Apple has their own gain in mind by offering this promotion, not the desire to help out some group or groups of deserving consumers.

I just bought my MBP on May 6th, so it's already past the 14 day return limit.. I'm a student and wish I would have held out a bit longer, but is there any possible way for me to get my free iPod?? I missed the deal by like 2 weeks!!

If I go to the Apple store will I need to do the mail in rebate or is it automatic, as in I pay for the Macbook Pro and they hand me the iPod Classic.

And I pay the $50 on the Classic.

you can call and beg, but the guy I spoke to made it sound like you can only get one if your in the 14 day grace period. I bought mine May 18 so it was no problem.

you have to do a mail in rebate. So you would pay for the macbook + 249

then you would get a 199 rebate check

I'm a pretty tolerant guy, I like to hear both side of the story before I make up my mind. I think it's important to listen to diverse voices and people with different opinions than my own.

But your comment is ridiculous. You and everyone who thinks like you should just leave. Your whining is why we can't have good things. No one can ever be nice to anyone without you idiot "it's not fair" people jumping out of your holes and screaming and waving your arms.

Also, you forgot about: orphans, nurses, policemen, people with cancer, children with autism, girl scouts, and, of course, autistic orphan girl scouts with leukemia.

First one to answer my question gets a COOKIE :) -

Should I get the iPod Classic or the iPod Touch? My younger brother already has an iPod Touch and he let's me use it all the time. But I'm getting a MacBook so to get ready for college and If I recall the iPod Classic can hold 160GB worth of not just music but lets say word documents and other files etc.

Am I correct?

Help is appreciated.

Hey whiny, why the military?

Mwhahahahaha!

I ordered mine on April 13th...is there any precedent for anyone calling in or going to the store after this long and being able to get some kind of rebate if not the ipod touch?

Long story short...

awesome ... just awesome
i bought a 13inch macbook pro just on Saturday...

I bought my 13 inch macbook pro last wednesday....
Just got off the phone with apple...
My 8gig ipod arrives in a few days.....

no muss not fuss...

There was a long hold time tho... about 40 min for me.

Two separate rebates. $100 off most printers in the online store. You have to take a look at the eligible printers. Yes both can be used.

If I didn't have a late 2008 MB I'd definitely go for this deal (though I'm broke right now so that's a double whammy). 13" MBP save $100 already for the education discount from $1199 to $1099. Free 8GB iPod Touch ($199). Free $100 printer. That's $1183 with 6% tax for the MBP, iPod Touch, and printer. In other words, it's $18 for a printer and iPod Touch if you want it on top of the computer if your tax is 6%.
