Apple Launches Free iPhone 4 Case Program

problems

An app seems like a good idea, since calling in to apple would not only require authentication of some sort, but they might have problems with a lot of dropped calls.

I think this is Apples first thought but I believe they will man up under the pressure that is sure to build up over this. We'll see. You may be right.

Exactly, it is based on personal experience. You are not having an issue with yours and I am not having an issue with mine, but there is obviously a problem as there are tons of people who ARE experiencing a problem. You do not see this happening with any other phone. If you go to a Nokia board you will not see thousands of users complaining that their calls are dropped when they hold their phone the way they want to.

The numbers Steve presented are not accurate numbers. Many more people are having the problem then he sees because not everyone reported it. People knew a "fix" was on the way and waited to see what it would be. They knew calling would do no good because they have seen the posts by other people who had already tried that and figured they would not waste their time.

Well, I guess I'll be sticking with my black iP4 and black bumper. Darn. I guess I'll put my BSE on now since I was holding out because I wasn't sure if I was going to return the black iPhone for the white.

Agreed no signal issues, bought a bumper day 1 though just in case(no pun intended). I've had had a case on my other 2 iPhones mainly because you never know what's going to happen. Really not too worried about getting my $30 back I'll spare Apple the expense.

Did you guys notice that the Terms and Conditions state that "Apple reserves the right to substitute iPhone 4 Bumpers or other cases based on available supply." So, all of the stewing about which case we pick might not matter!

Ah hell, why not go ahead and get a free one for all your hard work in helping Apple distribute the rare "colored Bumpers"? :D But seriously, I'm opting out as well. I've got all the cases I need at this point (other than waiting on my damn Element Vapor! :mad: ), and I wouldn't want any of the other free cases anyway. I have the Bumper and the PixelSkin HD, and the others look like crap.
 
App is down

This app is totally down: "We are unable to process your request. Please try again later."

It was working about 30 minutes ago, then...just nothing.

3 million people trying to buy an iPhone 4 crashes the ordering system.

3 million people trying to get a free case crashes the app.
 
The Bumper description on Apple's website states that the Bumper is a great way to personalize/jazz up one's iPhone. How is a black Bumper on a black phone going to achieve that? I guess if "boring" is your personal style, then they nailed it by offering black as the only color option. How about giving away the black ones and still offering to sell the other color options?

My thinking is they want to make more money, offer the black ones for free, then once most people have, put the coloured bumpers back up for sale, those weak willed ones like myself will buy one. To be honest they've never had the coloured bumpers in the UK from what I've read (I've never been able to find any, and guy in my local Apple Store said the same). I've been wanting a green one since launch.

Worked fine for me. Downloaded app, ordered a bumper for my wife's Iphone 4, and it went through . . . all on MY Iphone 4 that already had a bumper on it that had been refunded just this morning. Both of our Iphones use the same Itunes account, so I don't know if that makes the difference.

Please read the Apple web site more carefully.
You are trying to use the Apple Store which is NOT the way to order the cases.

The only way to order a case is to download the iPhone 4 App called 'iPhone 4 Case Program' from the iTunes App Store, it is free.

Then install the App on your iPhone 4, it will ONLY run on an iPhone 4.

Then start the App on the iPhone 4 and login to your account, you can then select a case and order it for free.

There is NO way to order a free case on the web based Apple Store.
 
For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase.


So I got the iphone and bumper on July 24. Does that mean I have till tomorrow to get a refund or a new bumper?:confused:

This is standard fine print on many purchase agreements. Rarely does it happen without notifying the customer beforehand.

Relax.

no you are not. I too am getting this. I called apple and they had me reset my password 3 times and it didnt work. So they said its probably because a lot of people are trying to get into the system at once and that my best bet would be try later. Some help xD..
