Only Apple presumably did those things right, not rushed and clunky like the others did, if history continues.

I love that picture, an yet my 5S is still more powerful than most android phones out there. Yep, 1.2 ghz 1gb memory 2 cores.. still more powerful than the galaxy S5. weird.

Well, considering they *all* skin them with the exception of Motorola and the Nexus line, I guess Android fans are SOL when it comes to laggy devices.

And no, Project Butter didn't fix this. The LG G3 is a great example. Just a beast of a phone in terms of specs, but laggy as all get out. Same with the Galaxy S5, and on this one it's a stretch to even suggest its "slight lag."

Heh, again, the lag is artificially caused by LG and Samsung skinning their devices.

Getting a Moto phone (of which there are many great ones), or a Nexus phone, grants you freedom from lag because there's no skin sitting on top of Google's UI.

And anyway, don't even try telling me that iPhone's UI doesn't stutter sometimes. I've seen it. It's not perfect either.

The performance of the android devices goes worse with the time, both long and short term. Short term, you can't probably keep an android smartphone running properly (heavy use) for a week if you don't restart or turn it off each few days. Long term, they keep getting slower and slower up to a certain point, I suppose it's because when you uninstall an app some files and config keep on the system and create some conflicts.

The iPhone fascinates me because mine hasn't been restarted or turned off since I bought it (10 months ago) and it goes as lovely as always.

like I said I'm amused by the android rage

And I'm amused by the Apple rage. I'm not sure what your point is.

The degraded performance of Android devices is mostly due to the JVM they use for applications called Dalvik. It's not too good with resources. Rebooting the device clears up the funk.

They're working on fixing that with a new Java virtual machine called ART, or Android Runtime. Devices with 4.4 can activate it now, but it will be official starting with Android L and the new devices that are released with the new OS on it.

All the phones lag, including nexus phones. So do iPhone's. Anyone who says they don't is lying.

I don't know who is raging at whom. I think it's good to have support articles to walk users through whatever they want to do.

I was just talking to a friend on another forum, not tech related. She wants to know how to take a pic and email it on her new Samsung tablet. If we were in the same place I could probably fumble onto it. I don't know without the device in hand.

Support articles are good. People can use the device they prefer. No need for feuds. I use iOS others may prefer something different. All good.

If anything, it's because the processor could be faster. The clock speed alone doesn't mean anything unless you're comparing "apples to apples". You can't even compare the clock speeds of Intel i7 processors to determine which is faster unless they're the same generation.

Do I plant it in a shaded area? Should I live in a temperate zone? How often do I have to water it? What insects do I need to prevent it from? How soon do I get the pomegranates? What is the best time of year to plant it?

Great guide, though! Looking forward to Pomegranate 2.0! ;)

All I know about Pomegranate trees is the one left in the back yard by the previous owners fell over when I leaned against it. Just like a scene from a comedy but in real life.

Nice, I was just looking for the opposite way ios > android (Sony) and found this article.

And you think that the average person would know what to do with that information?

What they might need a guide for is to watch all those videos they took/downloaded/transferred that are not in an iTunes/Quicktime format.

IIRC Apple got around things in the UI lag by taking a snapshot of the app as you close or switch to another. It made it seem like the app reloaded far quicker.

How the hell do you do that? If I connect my Nexus 4, It doesn't pop up as an external. I'm using Yosemite and KitKat 4.4.4 with USB debugging on.

I have no idea! I only connected it once because I wanted to put an image on it and it appeared like a usb stick. I'll have to check again when I'm at work. I don't have usb debugging activated though unless I need it. Try it with that deactivated.

I'm also on 4.4.4, and on work we have mavericks.

Agreed. Even owning 3 Macs, I rarely see any utility on iTunes. I hate when it tries to automatically import anything I play from external media. I know I can disable this behavior at some settings menu -- or maybe not. It doesn't matter, I try to avoid using iTunes in a daily basis.

Yes, just like with Windows, you can tell OSX what you want it to do when you insert a CD or a DVD. You hate iTunes because you don't want to change a setting?

What's with the hate for iTunes? Sure, it's not perfect, but when it comes to having your music, apps and other data in one place, I have never used anything better.

Because with android you don't NEED anything else, much less bloated dinasour software.

I know someone at work who's switching so this might be useful for him.

Personally though, while I considered it, I ended up sticking with Android for my phone (got a moto g 4g since I wanted 4g support).

For various reasons I could see me ending up not being happy with the iPhone which I've found out from the iPad I bought instead for my iOS needs e.g. App store restrictions, certain apps missing or inferior, etc.

If by next year ios 9/Apple improves on them (or Android gets worse) I might switch but until then....

Ok, I'll check when I can next check on if it shows up as an external.

You need Android File Transfer.

Also the latest iTunes is very nice.

There was a woman, when I was growing up, that handed out pomegranates on Halloween, and strangely, that was the one thing my brothers and I looked forward to. Not candy bars, not bazooka joe bubble gum, but a pomegranate on Halloween.

I guess it's the odd things that make like fun and interesting.

Smart thinking Apple! Well done.
The great thing about the Apple community/eco system is that there is so much information available to all of us to make life easier.

Considering a lot of people have difficulty with even the simplest tasks (the not so tech savvy people), providing them with an abundance of instructions, information and resources such as forums encourages them to gravitate to Apple as they know they can keep their life simple and stress free. Which is something we all want in our busy if not hectic lifestyles.

People always gravitate to that which is simple and uncomplicated. Apple are aware of that. Apple not only look after existing customers but also prospective customers.

you should not need a guide when you plug in an android device to your PC or Mac it becomes an external drive allowing you to look in all the folders to transfer things from the phone to the computer unlike iPhone

Many users are stumped by the step "plug phone into computer using USB cord".

Next you have to deal with the idea that there is more than one drive inside your computer.

Lots of phone and computer users need simple guides like this - everyone has to start somewhere.

how does the guide suggest moving texts?

The switch isn't really that hard. When I switched from Android to ios (and then back to android again) it was quite easy. The only issue I had was transferring my contacts. But I found a work around with that issue.

But it would nice if there was a one stop app that made it much easier. itunes stresses me out.

The other day I spent no less than 20 minutes trying to copy a folder full of pictures from my mac to my iphone...And then, I tried to erase them from my iPhone

So you didn't know about going into iTunes, doing a couple of mouse clicks and then hitting sync? And what you wanted to achieve was to sync a folder of photos and then deleting them?

You're right - that's pretty absurd.:)
