It's obvious Cook is going full steam ahead trying to win iOS market share back. iOS 8 is much more open and the phone itself now finally comes in multiple sizes.

I just hope this change of heart at Apple didn't come too late...

Wow. That's a half-decent "concern troll."
Keep it up. Practice makes perfect!

Is there any pressure-sensitive stylus on the market for iOS devices (my ignorance, I never heard of something like a Wacom stylus for iPads/iPhones).

There is in fact a Wacom stylus for iPads/iPhones, though I prefer the look and feel of the Adonit.

Fortunately, I didn't answered "yes" when iTunes asked for wiping

Then I went to the workaround solution: moved files to Dropbox, then imported to iPhone. I know american iPhone users plenty of bandwidth and/or inexpensive data plans don't care too much with intermediary/cloud solutions, but it can be a pita when you don't have the best bandwidth available or cloud plan (think on moving 10-20GB of files to a free Dropbox account, so you must copy files in steps).

I jumped on that promotion Box was doing last year sometime offering 50 gigs for free. That's been pretty dang awesome, I must admit.

I 100% agree with you, sadly it would bring Apple down to Samsung's level.

Maybe, though the difference is that Mac vs PC focused on the Mac's benefits in a humorous way whereas Samsung seems to focus more on mocking Apple and its users.

You know, I've never had a problem finding files in iCloud. Maybe it's just me, but not having an obtuse folder tree is actually kinda refreshing.

I've also taken to using Spotlight a lot more for accessing files over the past few years, ignoring folder structures and Finder as much as possible. It makes me feel like I'm in Star Trek.

I know some users want to be fed "like chimpanzees", no offense, and are completely passive, but a "professional mode" wouldn't hurt, like OS X

Anyway, I don't find files in iCloud, I find files in a folder which is somehow synchronised to iCloud, iCloud doesn't have a physical meaning as a server, it's an abstract concept, because if I delete pictures from the streaming album in my iphone they will disappear (we suppose) from the server but I can't backup them in any other folder so they're organised. And I can upload only the files they allow me to!? How is that? And why some pictures taken or downloaded sometimes synchronise right and others don't, and if don't you can't do anything about it. Or try to find that files via your mac. It's incoherent and, paradoxically, tremendously complex.

The other day I spent no less than 20 minutes trying to copy a folder full of pictures from my mac to my iphone. I had to copy then by choosing to synchronise that folder via iTunes, it seems there isn't any other way. And then, I tried to erase them from my iPhone, and I couldn't delete that folder!! It's absurd!! I had to synchronise again after deleting the pictures in the folder which was on my mac¿?¿? who designed this? It's the most stupid thing I've seen in my whole life, at first I resisted to believe such an absurd way could be the only. I have an engineering degree for god's sake and all this system is supposed to be like this to make it easier... NO

... and a lot of itunes-iphone users. I just want to manage my folders inside the iphone, I don't want a crappy intermediary synchronising stupidly. It's just a not intuitive outdated system. These are not iPods classic anymore, this is a mobile computer, I want to see folders and files for god's sake. Android is much much superior in this IMO

It's just a bizarre unintuitive system like iCloud and its abstract invisible file management (I hope iCloud drive is now something like Dropbox)

People who used to the way of Finder/Explorer, will hate the iTunes way, because it limits what people can do although at the end it achieve the same thing. It's not necessary Android is much better in this case, because you seeing it from Computer point of view. It's just Apple do it differently. But is it better or worse, the answer is always subjective.

IOS is at 43% in the US, what is there to "get back", probably 65-70% of the high end market. That doesn't leave a lot of space for the others and they're not going to get all of that back. If they're able to get 48% of the US market by spring 2015 (75% of the high end market), that would be an exceptional success.

"Apple Launches Guide for Android Users Switching to iPhone"

This is hilarious! While everyone fires at Apple, there's a dedicated "welcome back" segment. Truly funny to me

As Apple’s Battle With HTC Ends, Smartphone Patent Fights Continue

Published: November 11, 2012

The companies declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal, though it is widely believed that HTC is paying Apple as part of the agreement. HTC doesn’t expect the deal to have “an adverse material impact on the financials of the company,” Sally Julien, a spokeswoman for HTC, said in a statement.

The courts ruled on Samsung (image below). The constant: Apple takes its time with development, gets it right. It doesn't just slap on everything and the kitchen sink in a clumsy OS and cheap device to tout specs that mean nothing in the end. If a cheap device with "crazy amazing awesome" specs is your thing, kudos, if a well thought out system on a solid device with a higher resale value and better end user experience is yours, then get an iPhone. I find these silly "wars" and claims amusing, so much FUD over a phone.

*For the record, I do agree iTunes needs an overhaul. Too bloated, bring iSync back as the main conduit and follow iBooks - separate the media into individual core app's with their stores. It seems Apple may be testing this out with the new 12 (think about the media and store layouts and you'll see). :)

I, and many others, have been saying the same thing now for a few years now. I've no idea why they're taking so long.

Android is really not that bad and I can't see many people wanting to switch back to Iphone. But if you ever try Windows 8 desktops and tablets you will probably really hate it. That's a consumer group that should be introduced to OSX.

Hmm, two phones that... aren't sold anymore.

That really was the oldest picture you could find, wasn't it?

If OS X wouldn't come in beautiful macs, quite no one would use it, let's be realistic. The only thing most people miss when they switch from a windows PC to a mac is Windows itself.

OK, here is the thing: the overall market share, where Android is at 80% or some such, Apple is making no effort whatsoever to "win back" because the majority of that is < $200 or even < $100 phones. Apple does not compete in that segment at all. They have no interest in it.

High end smartphones, the segment that Apple does compete in market share is 50/50 iOS/Android and nothing is too lat about. There the people who won't go with Apple are mostly the Apple haters, for whom a different sized iPhone won't make a difference, but those open to buying the best phone will flock to the iPhone.

Apple, first I need:

- Wireless charging
- NFC...oops...you got NFC (capped)now, sorry
- Wifi Direct
- Multi/resizable Window
- Fast charging
- Big and removable battery
- SD Card
- LED notification
- 4K Video
- 2K display

then I will consider it.

Lord, I was replying to someone who brought those devices up. As for your remark, yes, it is salient as it goes to the discussion on hand.

Yeah too bad about the that inferior performing 32bit CPU in your Android phones huh? And shame about the quality of the pictures coming out of those zillion megapixel cameras. And maybe one day something will be done about the laggy UI, but don't hold your breath.

What I need for switching again to an Android smartphone is:

-4,8'' screen or less with high end specs
-Apple's customer service quality level
-Good build quality and hardware design.

The sony xperia z3 compact, which is the best IMO, lacks the second an a little bit the third

Android Owner: "I don't want to use iTunes. iTunes sucks!"

Friend: "Have you tried it?"

Android Owner: "No, but I heard it sucks, just like the iPhone!"

Friend: "Who said that?"

Android Owner: "Samsung and Google."

I was an iPhone user now I have an Android phone and I really like iTunes.
I use iTunes + DoubleTwist to upload songs to my Android device wirelessly.

Laggy UI was taken care of by the Project Butter initiative. It debuted in Android 4.1.

Google Project Butter accomplished its “buttery smooth” responsiveness and “speed infusion” improvements via three main additions: triple buffering, which improves coordination and animation synchronization between the CPU, GPU and display; VSync, which improves graphical performance and increases frame rates to 60fps (frames per second); and touch responsiveness, which predicts a user’s upcoming actions of the screen in order to improve load times for those actions.

No breath holding needed. It's already done.

Nice try with the concern trolling, though. Maybe next time.

Wouldn't be hard if Apple got familiar and put a damn SD card in.

Please explain how do you move a .vcf file to an iPhone without installing third party apps like Dropbox or something. The only way I could import a .vcf file to my wife's iPhone was launching a local web server hosting the .vcf file. Then I opened Safari pointing to the file's URL.

It's not so straightforward... try doing the same with music (.mp3 files) when your computer iTunes account is different from the iTunes phone account. iTunes gently asks to wipe the phone!!! What a mess.

what do you need a vcf file for? move all her contacts to the contacts app iCloud contacts, or an iCloud compatible digital contact manager.

Why is your computer iTunes account different then your phone account? It should be the same one. The only reason I can think of is if you share an iTunes account with your SO and then have a second account thats your own. Which is just asking to make things complicated for no reason.

Your AppleID is literally your Apple identity. You should only have one.
