I wish Apple would open up a little, instead of getting more and more closed.

They seem to be opening up with app extensions and other things? It will never be to the level of Android, but I don't perceive them going backwards in that regard.

I think Tim Cook has been a key influence in this area. The Jobs "lock it all down" days seem to be behind us.

ALL of my android friends are switching to iPhone 6 and 6+ now. I know that's not a lot but other people friends are probably doing the same.

Mine are too as soon as their contracts expire. They said they went to android because of the screen.

"Wren and Martin"

perhaps a message board with grammar is more interesting for you.

Migrate from what? There was nothing to migrate from back them. :p

of course not apple invented phones.:D

Well, that just shows your level of knowledge. If you set up proper iCloud backups and cloud syncing of your data (mail, contacts, etc.) then migration is completely transparent from iPhone to iPhone. There's nothing to do other than re-entering your Apple (and other cloud) credentials, and your data will magically re-appear. I've been moving from Mac to Mac like this for 12 years.

both paragraphs of your post (although the first one seems to be tongue in cheek) shows you were simply way too eager to respond without thinking your post through or havent got a clue.

tell me how to migrate texts from an original iphone to an iphone 5s?

tell me how to migrate notes/contacts from an ios device that was released before icloud came about?

tell me how to migrate just texts from one phone to another?

and slightly off topic but tell me how to export any of these files from an ios device to a computer?

you have been moving from mac to mac for 12 years using icloud?

I'm sorry, am I offending your delicate sensibilities by speaking about Apple's competition? Hopefully you're not that insecure.

Since I have a iPhone, iPad and Mac Mini, I feel very secure. Oh, and I limit the number of nude selfies I take. :D

What about go for another mile, Apple, to pay early termination fee for those android owners stuck in contracts to switch now....lol?

you should not need a guide when you plug in an android device to your PC or Mac it becomes an external drive allowing you to look in all the folders to transfer things from the phone to the computer unlike iPhone

True, but there will be non-techie users out there who don't know that and will need step by step instructions ;)

I don't know.... If you're deep in to Apple ecosystem, it's very hard to find another ecosystem that is as good as Apple. With Apple, everything is integrated and so easy to setup and just works. Yes, just worked.

My personal usage:

- I use my mac for work, which sync with all of my iDevices without me doing any hardcore configuration but an iCloud account. When I want to watch a movies, I can watch it in my Mac, or when I need the couch, I send it to my Apple TV with 1 click and I'm on the couch. When I have friends/family gathering, I can show them pictures/video through my Apple TV "wirelessly", clumsy cable. They can connect to my wifi and show me their stuff, again, wirelessly, no setup, no cable. When my wife wants to send a hundred of pics that she just took, we turned on AirDrop and 30 seconds later, the pics are in my iPhone. Basically, everything works together so seamlessly, it makes life a lot easier and saves a LOT of time and frustration. I didn't have to spend hours and hours configuring things to make them work together.

- There're fireTV, googleTV, samesung phones, amazon phones, google phones, etc. The problem is you need to spend some real quality time with them if you want them to function the same as Appl's.

It's very good if you know how to use it. It's a different way of doing things that most people who aren't used to Apple's way of using a mac. My wife, who isn't a tech person, has never run in to any big issue with iTunes. She loves it and use it for everything.

Very good points. This is true; Apple stuff is easy as hell and convenient, when you don't care about control. It is the Prius of phones. Start, gas, go. Or rather, a limo, where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

As soon as you want to have a spirited drive, it becomes an absolute pain in the ass.

So someone coming from Android that likes control will be frustrated immediately.

Someone coming from Android who despises all the "confusing options" will never leave Apple again, until he/she wants control back.

Two different type of users. Apple is obviously betting the majority are limo riders. ;)

It's stupid that you need to use it to transfer files into Apps that have nothing to do with Apple.

And if you're away from your iTunes syncing computer how are you supposed to do that?

Here's hoping iCloud Drive actually works somewhat well, and that it's accessible thru the web iCloud interface where you can upload files to the device.

Would you rather use even more apps? Having one unified organiser for everything is the best case.

Granted not being able to access a computer is inconvienevit, but it is uncommon and rarely important. You can surely wait a day or two to sync a GarageBand project.

Dropbox already offers some limited functionality. I use it for text files likes Doc's and PDF's. There is much to be expanded upon alright and I welcome any advances with iCloud drive.

Apple doesn't care what carrier you use, so that makes no sense.

----------

Good, then my talking about Android shouldn't bother you.

And I did use a HTC phone until my carrier had iPhone. Gave it to my wife and after a few weeks, she threw it on the floor and said go get me an iPhone. She hated it and will never go back.

The plus is choice pushes companies to develop better products.

Older HTC phones weren't all that good and had lots of problems, so I don't blame your wife for wanting an iPhone.

HTC phones didn't really start getting good until HTC One's release last year.

That's not really a big concern for Android users anymore with the introduction of Google Play Services. That allows Google to update the services on a phone without the need to upgrade the OS itself. It's a great way to get around manufacturers and their slow updates.

Sounds like trying to run Flash Player 15 under IE 9 on WinXP. At some point this will break down...

You'd be surprised at how modular Android really is and how deep you can update the innards before the framework won't handle any more changes.

At that point though, yes, you'll need an OS upgrade to get upgraded features. And the upgrade may or may not come depending on which phone you purchase.

Luckily, Android manufacturers are getting better at releasing timely updates. Usually the less skinned it is, the quicker it'll receive updates.

Good news, you don't have to be. Better still, you don't need to be d!ck about it, either. Could be a real win / win for everyone.

I take it you've never heard of a thing called "sarcasm", you should really learn about it sometime as it's a wonderful thing if I'm correct...

And FYI, I don't like being called a d!ck just because I was being sarcastic in a post...

I wish my iPhone worked just like an old digital camera :roll eyes:

Great 1990's technology there. I have enough devices that are a jumbled mess of random naming structures, dates, file types, and sources. My iPhone is not a USB stick. Keeping track of photos in something like iPhoto or managing music through iTunes is infinitely more preferable than an open file manager. I can get files of any type of from any source, and simply add them to those programs and I get them clearly organised with the correct tags and/or album covers. Sure the iPhone is not totally independent as a result, but how many people that also own a smartphone don't also have a computer of some description? I don't like organising my 100GB song library or my 200GB photo library on a small touch screen.

Why not both? Works better for some stuff you need to do.

Oh come on now, let's not start this...

There are plenty of things Apple has "borrowed" from Samsung over the past three years, and vice-versa, so let's not get into this battle.

You're not the only one who's sick and tired of this whole Samsung vs Apple crap! I'm sick and tired of hearing about it; especially from the fundamentalist fanboys on both sides!

you best be shaking your head if you think you can import apps to iTunes, your only allowed to put apps that apple wants you to put on your idevice

if you used an android your contacts and mail are in your gmail account, lucky for you apple allows gmail so you can easily bring your mail and contacts with you

PM me if you need more instructions

Oh ok, thanks for your GUIDANCE with regards to the fact that apps do not transfer & there is more to it than just "plugging your Android into your PC" with no further action or instruction necessary, as someone incorrectly intimated. (oh whoops; wasn't that you??)
Oh, and thanks for the offer of further GUIDANCE via private message w/ regards to transferring contacts using GMail & anything else I may need instructions with.
If you need some more help realizing that you keep proving yourself wrong when you said "nobody should need a guide" by yourself repeatedly offering guidance, PM me. I'd be pleased to quote you even more, fumbling all over yourself, flip-flopping.
smh at stubborn pride & refusing to admit a guide might actually be helpful to some.... as, unlike you may think- nothing transfers automatically. There are definitely settings & steps necessary in any phone migration between different operating systems.

Yeah. All 1,000,000+ of them.

Some of my contacts and e-mail are in Exchange/Outlook. Some are on other locations. My G-mail account holds very little. Are you suggesting that in order to use Android one *must* have a G-mail account...? I don't think so.

As others have pointed out - these guides are for those that want/need them. If you don't want or need them, then they don't apply to you. Good for you. Don't dis Apple because they want to help out some portion of their customer base. And don't dis them either for the fact that moving *some* of the myriad types and formats of data is a bit more complicated than locate and drag.

Excuse me, what has Apple "borrowed" from Samsung?
Remember a little 130 page with Apple user interface designs that Samsung needed to copy?

And excuse me again, but you started it.
