I had this happen to my iPhone 11 luckily it was still under the warranty period and they changed it as this programme wouldn’t cover my iPhone 11 as mine was a launch day one so too early.

One minute the phone was working normally I stick it in my pocket with my tunes playing, a little later I go to manually choose a song and it’s completely dead. No amount of rebooting and DFU restoring could fix it. Luckily the Apple store was able to replace it whilst I waited.

It's a bummer that the website doesn't integrate with your Apple ID and autofill the serial number.

Heck, they could integrate things further and send you a push notification that your device is eligible.

Seems like just about every device released in the last 6 years has some sort of REP for it.

Point seems pretty clearly stated. It's obvious he's implying a decline in quality over the recent years.

Total sales numbers have gone up, so absolute quality per device may not actually have declined.

No. Clearly the point is that Apple's quality control has seen some steep decline in recent years. It's kind of hard to deny at this point.

It's hard to ascertain either way without collecting a lot of data.

You need to remember at Apple’s scale a small percentage rarely means a small number.

I work in an environment that deployed dozens of the "affected" machines - only one reported the keyboard issue.

Not saying the issue isn't there, but I am saying that (in my experience) it really did affect a small percentage of machines.
My MacBook required two keyboard replacements in 14-months, so 'small %' may have been apple-speak for 'nothing to see here.' Historically, Apple has never been forthcoming with latent defects.

"Small %" is probably annoying lawyer-speak.

That said, this is the first I hear about these issues, and my 11 is certainly fine.

Yes, because they want to cover their customers when issues are discovered... outside of warranty. Unlike other companies. Why was this written so negative.
I agree! Ive had some issues with Apple products over the years... iPhone transitioning from Qualcomm to Qualcomm/Intel (mixed bag modems in the X) to Intel, and now back to Qualcomm modems in iPhone . However, they’ve been very helpful when things go awry.

Apple does not use refurbs for repair replacements.
They can unless your phone is very new. This particular recall, your phone must be older than one year, or it would have been covered by warranty anyway. And if your phone is over a year old, a refurbished phone should actually be an improvement.
 
Well I guess I'm about to get some extra work hours. The added pay will be more than welcome for Christmas 😂

A refurbished phone, in the eyes of Apple, is a complete device that was previously used for a period of time by the previous owner. Apple doesn’t just change the screen, restore it, and use it for replacements at the Genius Bar.

Genius Bar replacements are new devices, I would say 4 out of 5 times. You can tell by the plastic packaging of the phone. If the entire device is surrounded by plastic packaging inside the replacement box, it’s refurbished by Apple. If the device just has a screen film, it’s a new device.
 


Apple today launched a new display replacement program for iPhone 11 devices to address a problem that cases a "small percentage" of iPhone 11 displays to stop responding to touch.

Apple says that affected devices were manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020, and if there are touch issues, the iPhone 11 models could have a problem with the display module.

Those with iPhone 11 models exhibiting this issue can have eligible devices serviced by Apple. iPhone 11 owners can use the serial number checker available through Apple's support document to see if their devices are part of the replacement program. For devices that are eligible, Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider will provide service at no charge.

Customers with iPhone 11 models in need of service can find an Apple Authorized Service Provider, make an appointment at an Apple retail location, or contact Apple Support to arrange a mail-in repair. The program covers affected iPhone 11 devices for two years after the first retail sale of the unit, and those who paid to have their devices repaired can contact Apple about a refund.

This absolutely happens to my phone, even though the tool says I’m not eligible I’m going to request a replacement. So many times the display doesn’t respond I thought I was going nuts.
I have the exact same issue. The apple representative was less than helpful - they wanted 529.77 to repair it as they said it was outside the serial number recall. Not impressed. It was purchased in December of last year.

Is there anyone with an iPhone 11 that is OUTSIDE of that range and not technically eligible for that program that is still experiencing that exact same issue? Would love to hear from you!
Yep - purchased in December last year. Apple says it's not eligible because the serial number doesn't fall within the range they are recalling. I'm experiencing the exact issue they are recalling for. Apple wants me to pay for the repair - I told them to get stuffed. Looking for replacement options.
 
It would be great if Apple has a more specific explanations on what's wrong.
Well if it only affects a certain set of serial number then they have traced it to a supply of LCDs. Unlike the NVidia fiasco which affected the entire line MacBook Pros based on usage.
 
My 11 Pro Max is not showing eligible. I'm not having any issues but this makes me feel a tad relieved that I likely won't.

Grateful for the small things.

If your screen is broken, they can’t replace the screen for you until you pay to have the screen replaced. makes total sense...

That's weird! It's not like you didn't purchase it within the November 2019 to May 2020 time period.
