It's not 7 hours in time difference. It is closer to 2 hours.

New Zealand is right next to the line that divides one day from another day. (What do you call that line on the globe again?) Although not by too much it is definitely closer to the line than Japan is.
International Dateline although the 180 degree line actually goes through some little village in Fiji.

if we travel south east to the Chatham Islands we can almost look across the International dateline. :p

Yes, and Australia is one hour ahead of Japan.
Australia is in more than one time zone.

Take a look at this web site. Wellington, New Zealand is behind Sydney, Australia time wise. (On the web sit you can click each location for a map of where each location is in the world.)

You got to wonder whether Sony is using Australai as a test case. Like, we're a relatively small market so theyhaven't got as much to lose by stalling - and holding out for WMA. Yet if they succeed, then they have so much to gain, as it becomes a precedent or a crack in the dam wall.
As a friend of mine said, ceding North America, Europe, and Japan so you can make a stand in Australia might work in Risk, but it's probably not a formula for success with digital music.

Could you post a link for the article?

Yeah, as said its pay-to-view...

Basically it says -

> Price Waterhouse have released a report "PricewaterhouseCoopers' Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2005-2009"
It says
> Protracted negotiations are preventing launch and costing the music industry in Oz dearly
> SonyBMG has kept iTMS out of the Australian market
> ITMS (good legal downloads) help reduce piracy...and so SonyBMG are hence partly responsible for the increase in piracy
> SonyBMG wants Apple to increase the number of digital formats supported by the store. This includes WMA and Sony's own ATRAC formats
> Stuff about radios taking market share but I dont think the author really has come to grips with podcasting - at least its not mentioned in the article.
> Report is $995 AUD...

Change in boiler plate

Anyone notice apple changed their tag line at the end of the press releases? Maybe someone has mentioned this before but it's the first I've noticed.

"Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning desktop and notebook computers, OS X operating system, and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital music revolution with its iPod portable music players and iTunes online music store."

Wonderful. No more shouting Japanese that they don't have a music store.

It's about time. Not exactly a great deal. 200 yen is like $2.
Better than the rumored 300 yen price! :D

Also, with the current exchange rate, it is a bit less than $2 -- closer to 1.85. Still not 99 cents, but better than $2.

Possibly offtopic, but...

I seem to be having a strange experience with iTunes Music Store Japan. I know that I can't purchase there (I am living in China with a US account), but I can't even browse there. When I pick stuff from the J-Pop section, it will act as if I didn"t select anything, and a search returns no results. If I pick an album from the store's main page, I get an error that says that what I requested can not be found in the US store, which gives me a strong feeling of WTF because I am trying to browse the Japanese store, not the US store. Any suggestions?

While i can browse the japanese store, I can not buy anything (i have a US account). Okay, so i browse the J-pop section on the American store (by hitting the browse button) and there are some artists but no albums! Perhaps It will take a little longer to get the other stores in sync?

Alright - congrats to Japan - what about us here in AU? There is only 1 space left on the ITMS store selection page... About time we see and Australian flag I reakon!!!

So SONY BMG is the culprit holding up the ITMS in Australia. Doesn't this record label have songs on the other ITMS's? If so, why would they be wanting to do this down here....

Doesn't make sense...

I don't know if Apple can sell a lot of music in Japan or not because there are Rental Music Store in Japan. Rental Price for one album is only $3.00.(300yen) & Sigle is only $1.00(100yen)...

But it's good for me because I'm not living there right now. :)

OK They have all the crap J-Pop but where is the good stuff? The only good US artist they have is... Jack Johnson?

After such a long wait, all I get is THIS?

Will we ever get an ITMS in Brazil? Maybe in 10 years or so? Costing $10 a song? Can't believe that I got stuck in this crap...

Perhaps at the same time as the rest of LatinAmerica, but don't worry it WILL be this century, i've been assured. :(

Yes, but that is rental... ripping it is still illegal, right? This is actually buying... two different things.
