This is hilarious. Cannot believe this still exists. What exactly is Apple working on?

I'm guessing this means Logic Express is dead, in favour of Garage Band. Pity, as it was far more capable than GB, and far more affordable than Pro.

logic express was like $250 wasnt it??
this thing is $199......... effectively makes logic express redundant
I got Logic 9 for like $500/$600 just a few years ago and thought it was the bargain of the century with all the stuff that came along with it...

I guess you have your reasons, but I don't see why some people are so sceptic towards Mountain Lion. I can understand why people stayed on Snow Leo when Lion came out, but 10.8 really is a good improvement over 10.7. I like 10.8 much better than 10.6.

Considered upgrading to 10.8 once, but didn't get around to it. I generally like to do a 'clean install' when I install a new OS, and that takes time, and there are additional hoops to go through now doing a clean install (have to create a USB image, etc). Call me lazy. With Mavericks so close now, think I will just wait and go straight to that.

Aperture X next please

When you see the final version of Aperture X, you'll cry... Just a hint, but try to see how Adobe's apps could be a backup should you... you know... need a fall back plan for future work on your images. Provided you are a photographer.

The systematic dumbing down of all their Pro Apps... :(

A few questions on installing.

1) Should I Remove logic 9?
2) will this upgrade logic 9 or will both programs be available?
3) Does logic X include all downloadable content from logic 9 plus the new stuff or is it completely different? Does it import the downloadable content from 9?

I can't believe there are people that think that system overloads never happen in any other DAW.

no.
logic 9 and it appears logic x.. have a problem with not allocating work to the right cores and and hence overloading 1 core prematurely even though the CPU overall is doing fine.

there is a workaround to this problem to reallocate designated work units but its time consuming, especially on big projects.

And yet when I load up the same material in different DAWs, DP, Cubase, and PT all crapped out way before Logic did. Logic using one core for "live" tracks is a drag, but otherwise the CPU balancing blows away the other mac apps.

Second, note the "upload to soundcloud" feature -- what does that tell you about the target demographic?

it tells me that they acknowledge that people use soundcloud to upload works in progress and finished tracks for people to listen to. that's about it. i have a hard time believing this is a bad thing or somehow deferrable to "Garage Band Pro".

I wonder if the environment is still available as a page.

Environment is still there, according to a friend of mine whom I asked to check it.

EXS24 Editor however has not changed in any way.. .. so -- what did they do with the Redmatica acquisition? :(

(Arpeggiator, Melodyne-like vocal correction)
Digital Performer has both of these features for many years already.

Thanks for your input.

And it comes with arpeggiator!!! 20 years later!!!

So I take it that you and the Logic Environment weren't really ever mates?

PS: It will be fun to checkout EXS24 feutures and look for "redmatica" features. Apple purchased them a year ago.

Found any? I asked a friend for a EXS24 editor screenshot and it seemed that there were no changes. please do let us know if you spot anything Redmatica-ish in EXS24 or anywhere else inside Logic Pro X. have been waiting for Logic<->Redmatica stuff to happen ever since I heard about the acquisition..

Where's the Redmatica integration? You know, the software andrea gozzi sold to apple but continued to sell up until the very second he shut down and left you holding the bag.

Do let us know if you find any..?

p.s. i find it kind of sweet that some of the nice features of the Environment (Transformer, Chord Memory, Arpeggiator, Delay Line etc) have been re-introduced through Midi Plugins ----- more people will be able to comprehend them now..

theres not really an easy way for you to compare all those DAWs though. each of them have their own quirks. Although I have seen PT rigs on not so impressive hardware run pretty sophisticated projects..
Im a proponent of Logic. But you cannot deny this is a problem that should have been fixed in Logic X (assuming it really does exist - too early to tell)

Awesome! I'm surprised they didn't save it for a keynote to announce it, more people would be aware of the update. Hopefully it's not stripped down and sucky like FCP X was.

Key word "WAS". Apple has updated Final Cut Pro X many times for free since launch and it is amazing now!!! They also have obviously learned their lesson in the way they launched it. That seems very apparent to me with what they have done today with Logic Pro X! Not to mention the new Mac Pro coming soon :)

Good times for pro's :)

You say it may not even exist but you're complaining about it anyway?

im not trying to start and internet bun fight with you. all im saying is if the poster that you quoted is right - that this problem still exists, then yes i would complain about it. it's a 4 year old problem. and grand central came out during the time of snow leopard.

I can't believe there are people that think that system overloads never happen in any other DAW.

Not when there are so many available resources. This crops up when you have 24+GB free memory and 14 extra cores. lol.
So nice paint job Apple. I'll move over when my very expensive plugs support it.

No, there's something distinctly tacky about Apple trying to do you a favor by adding specific tie ins right inside the app. It's like selling a car with a built in big red button that says "activate GPS guide to Walmart." Maybe I don't live near a Walmart. Maybe I don't shop there. Maybe I want to go other places. Maybe this car is designed for people who go to Walmart a lot.

Does anyone know how this affected people who had already purchased Logic Pro 9 on the App Store? Did they remove Logic Pro 9 altogether and replace it with Logic Pro X or did they let those people with Logic Pro 9 "update" their app and have it become Logic Pro X? If they removed Logic Pro 9 altogether from the AppStore, will there be updates to it in the future for those people?

Thanks for any information!

Yeah cause cars don't have specific features like "Sirius" or "XM" radio. The front console is telling you to go directly there... and they make you listen to this stuff through specific speaker brands like Pioneer and Bose. Disgusting!

You failed to understand the analogy.

Whatever. Enjoy your Logic X everyone!

Do you have any idea about the history of this bug? Obviously not.

That same message appears in Logic Pro 8 and 9 all the time for me. What it tells me is that there is a system overload.

That Apple has failed to fix. This happens on very simple projects that should not have this error. Other DAWs aren't this poor. Why do people accept such garbage from Apple?

Seriously, why do people defend this? Would you say the same thing if this bug was in the last several versions of Cubase? It's amazing to me that Apple can do this and people try to say it's fine. What a business model!

Call me a miser, but I see shades of FCP X on this one.

First, note that Logic Pro 9 is now gone from the app store, as if X is just another version rather than a dramatically changed app.

Second, note the "upload to soundcloud" feature -- what does that tell you about the target demographic?

Third, note the lack of info (even in the reviews!) about things like video handling, OMF import, and basic MIDI functions, in favour of bragging about new "amazing" features that will make life SOO much easier and keep all those complicated settings out of your way. Ugh.

I'm sure Logic retains most of the nuts and bolts features that make it a workhorse, but the general vibe I'm getting is "Garage Band Pro." And I don't like it.

That's the worry we have here at our studio. We already moved off of FCP after waiting a full year+ trying and hoping FCPX would become something usable in our studio. So we are very leery about this app. I echo your sentiments.
