What absolute *******s.

They really screwed the UK over with this.

USD Price for the LOWEST spec one: $1199

This converts to GBP at £740 (todays rate)

Apple are selling it for £999!

You'd have to be a complete moron to be willing to pay that for such a poor spec 13" model!

They really are taking the piss big time with those prices. For another £300 you can buy a Mac Pro for goodness sake!

I'm a bit surprised there is no 1440x900 CTO option in the 13". I guess they want to keep something unique about the 13" MacBook Air.

The battery life is a bit disappointing, too. Given that the dimensions are the same, I'd have preferred longer life (unless they are attributing this to the new rating system). Anyway, skipping the Core i3 and offering the quad-core processors are pluses, as is the Thunderbolt port (no more complaints about lack of USB 3.0 since they have something faster to promote). Plus, the 17" kept the ExpressCard slot.

Overall, it's a very solid spec bump, but not the complete redesign some were hoping for. It should sell well.

Finally a voice of reason.

This is very simple:

Apple puts out a product..

you like....you buy
you don't like, you don't buy

The end:)

It is a good update -- we all got the thing we've really been waiting for, which is a upgrade from the old Core 2 Duos.

Of course, we all want more, but Apple has very savvy marketing and product management. They know they need to meter-out the goodies to keep people buying.

"With the new Thunderbolt port, you can daisy-chain as many as six devices"
Does this mean that I can connect up to six displays through the thunderbolt port?

Good update, love everything - except that optical drive. I really want to sell my late 2008 MBP to get a new one ... but with a redesign next year, hopefully they'll throw out that optical drive by then.

Nice... but my previous generation 2.66GHz MacBook Pro will last me a few years still I think. :)

Still curious as to why lightpeak is integrated into the display port rather than the USB ports.

Because now when apple refreshes their monitors they can use the port to power and send video to the display.

I love the update, but the 13" resolution is terrible. I dont understand why Apple didnt upgrade this to match the Air?!? At least give us the option. Ugh!

I'm disappointed that the 13" is still using the 1280 x 800 display as before and no SSD fitted standard. What is this, 2006? Battery down to 7hrs too, but I guess this is just because they are measuring it a different way as per the 2010 MBAs. CPUs look good, but Thunderbolt does nothing for me. Not sure about the Intel graphics, be interesting to see how that compares to the old GeForce 320m.

Hope the iPad announcement is a bit more exciting!

If the GPU could support that, maybe. But no, because the GPU can't support that. XP

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

17" here I come!

No resolution bump on the 13'? What an absolute joke!

Looks like i'll just be getting the 13" Air. Why on earth would Apple not even give us the option to BTO the 1440x900 panel?

+1. I'm doing the same thing today. Disappointed in the base 13" specs. I like the dual core i7 upgrade, but not at the cost of screen resolution, graphics chip, and SSD.

If gpu isn't important a maxed 13" would be pretty sweet, but utterly crippled by that resolution.....Apple, really, sheesh.

Apparently there is still only a glossy 13inch MBP...

I hate to be a complainer (the rest of the specs on all the models look pretty nice) but I can't believe they still won't give the 13inch MBP this option. So far Apple still hasn't put out a computer that makes me want to upgrade:(

Maybe there will be a BTO option later - I can dream:eek:

+1

I won't purchase a glass covered laptop or desktop again. It is ridiculous that they won't offer an BTO option.
