Need some help please

Hello guys this has been a very exiting experience for me following all of the rumors and everything these past 2 weeks. I am using an 07 or 08 dell XPS m1530 right now and i really want to switch to apple, because i love the OS. I am a highschool student, and i mainly use my computer for homework, surfing the web, skyping, and i on installing logic express or pro to use with my band, i am really into doing things with music, will the $1199 13" be good for me?

Thank you, Phil

just checked my local store and it has new MBP in stock. I am stupid and make an online order this morning. anyone know when apple.com will ship? can't wait.

Yes. Should suffice. Enjoy.

FYI, replacing the apple harddrive will void your warranty.

Not true. I replaced the HDD in a previous unibody and it was a nonissue. I confirmed it tonight at the apple store when I picked up the new 17" unibody.

Apple won't cover the replacement HDD (makes sense) but they still cover the computer itself.

I'm sorry, enjoy your quad core e-peen for 600 bucks. I'm sure I can find a quad core core i5 somewhere for about the same price.

The argument isn't moot, the MBP is still grossly overpriced and warrant at least a 100 dollar price reduction or at least a bump in the pointless specs like video card and screen resolution (256mb vram? seriously apple? ****ing bean counters)

You're going to find a comparable i5 quad core mobile Dell? Lmfao. Have fun with that. Troll more.

Yes. Should suffice. Enjoy.

Thank you for the advice, i should probably go to another forum for this question, but what would u recommend more logic express or pro? because its a 200$ difference so i wanna make sure the express will be enough for now.

Just thought ya'll would like to know the geekbench score on my base model 13" i5 : 5918

somehow that very close to this:
MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2010)
Intel Core i7 M 640 2.8 GHz (2 cores) - 5958

dont quite get it... but im happy!

Dell XPS
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dndogx2&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&model_id=xps-15
Intel® Core™ i5-480M (2.66GHz, 4Threads, turbo boost up to 2.93Ghz, 3M cache)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M 1GB graphics with Optimus edit
MEMORY 6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory edit
HARD DRIVE 750GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive edit
SECURITY SOFTWARE McAfee SecurityCenter, 30-Day Trial edit
Old memory, old processor, old GPU, and a free 30 day anti-virus trial! Omg I must buy one of these right now! I can't wait to get a ton of "free" installed trials and Dell support software that automagically bothers me daily. Yippie!

I'll pay extra for an OS that won't pester me and a company that gets it right by not installing trial crap for me.

More people would buy Macs if they were reasonably priced (and had better configurations).

I am not saying make Macs dirt cheap - but Macs try to act like the Ferrari's of computers when all Macs are is Made in China crap, stuff you'd see at Wal-Mart and not Saks Fifth Avenue, but Apple charges at those prices.

I mean the MacBook is so horrifically overpriced, as well as the Mac Mini.

1. You have no proof for this. I think many people would rather buy a Mac later than giving away their money for a PC.

2. Asian cars mostly have way better quality than italian cars. Still many people dream more of a Ferrari than an asian race car. (In fact you can´t compare Ferrari to Apple)

3. No it´s not overpriced. Apple makes good sales, why should they drop the price?
If you don´t like the Apple ecosystem, then it´s not worth your money.
But it´s worth mine.
If it is so easy to do better than Apple at a lower price, why isn´t there a single company that can offer a similar ecosystem?

And please don´t tell me after so many years of success that all the mostly happy Apple-users simply believed the hype.

To be honest, I don't use Logic so can offer no advice on that particular software. However, I'm sure the Apple reps will be able to answer any questions you might have fully.

But I do feel the 13" MBP will easily meet your needs.

My girls all qualified for the education discount, so you should
be able to save a bit buying through the education store online
or present your student I.D. at the store.

If your family has a faculty member, that also works

or you may be able to save having the school order it for you.

One thing you should understand clearly is that if you
purchase Logic Express or Pro with the student discount, it will not be
upgradeable once Logic 10 is released whenever.

My mistake. That is what I meant. Sorry!

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with a question like that? It appears to be little more than trolling.

I suspect venting frustration and fear.

The answer is quite simple.

A Mac can run OS X, Linux and ALL your dedicated Windows applications.

You can do all your online work with much greater security under Mac OS X
and still boot over to run secure dedicated work applications under Windows as needed.

To most educated people, this alone is worth the difference in the hardware.

Higher than I thought. Thanks.

What would be the speed advantage between the 2.3 i5 13 inch vs the 2.7 i7 13 inch? Not really savy there so any input would be appreciated.

Mainly for video encoding. I like the 13 inch size for my needs 15 would be a little larger than I want.

Toshiba qosmio f60-10k here, 1 year old.
Price = same as the macbook pro 13" low-end.
Screen =15"
CPU= 2,4ghz core i5 (arrandale ofc, not SB.), which I think has a better performance than the 2,3ghz i5.
GPU = nvidia 330m 1gb.
Ram = 6gb ddr3.
Hard drive = 500gb 5400rpm.
Windows 7 (basic or? i have the ultimate now anyway...)
ports = 4 usbs, vga , hdmi.
Oh and forgot bluray player and dvd rw :)

Compare??
Cmon this upgrade is *****... just a little bit better processor than before, people say the gpu is worse than 320m too. so what the frack?
I still wanna buy a macbook 13" though, maybe the new white, or a refurbished mbp last gen. I mean its cheaper than the current and the same performance.

Qosimo's are garbage. The build quality is terrible and they have terrible battery life. They feel like a cheap toy compared to a MBP

I was all set to go for an uber portable Fast 13.5,
but simply couldn't ignore the 15" 2.0 GHz Quad Core upgrade.

I think I'll be more than fine with 500 GB @ 7200 RPM
for on board storage.

To be honest, the extra screen real estate of the 15"
will come in handy running Logic Pro too.

~17%, ie clock speed difference.

Difference between encoding speed between i7 13" and i7 15" will be almost an extra 50%. You sure you don't want to go to the 15"?

If video encoding software ever goes to OpenCL, then the high end 15" would outperform even the low end 15" by like an order of magnitude. But it probably won't happen, at least for a while.

Well I dig the 13 inch model, fits me well. I simply can not afford the 15 inch haha little too much for me. I probably will get an iMac around the holidays which should do the job for real intensive stuff. I just need some decent performance out of the 13.

It seems the 1199 model is the way to go. Put a SSD in that mofo down the road as well.

Thanks for the info Erasmus.
