The ***** deal is I've paid for a service that has been unavailable all day. An hour or two - that's fine. All day...that's not.

I would expect some form of remuneration for that sort of downtime - perhaps a free month added on to each subscription.

You expect $8.25 for something you paid $0.15 for? Get a grip.

You using the word "failure" is totally displaced. Did Apple make a statement that they could not get the transition to work and they are shutting it down? No. I understand your frustration, (Somewhat....) but think about, how productive is it to complain here about it? We can't do anything about it other than complain to Apple which is what you should be doing, not here.

?? This is a hot Apple topic for many of us after such a long outage - complaining to Apple won't do anything either - they know they have a "symptom". Discussion on such a major issue is one of the reasons for the Forum - or at least many many of us think so

I've never understood why certain parts of the world are 30 minutes different in time zones...... it just makes things confusing!:) good night, depaulsunny, it's 12:15 PM here in Washington State

Well here in Indiana'er we've decided to make towns 30 minutes away from each other on different time zones so try driving 30 minutes and losing/gaining an hour! :)

the standalone installer that was posted on here. i was bored and couldn't wait.....reckon thats what is wrong?

Don't listen to him, the software updater and the manual downloaded one do the exact same thing. The MobileMe servers are just dog slow and crashing. Of course this is a gigantic move so it was more than anticipated that there would be big hiccups.

what's funny is that my 1 year old son is taking a nap right now and periodically makes noise on the monitor. I'm continuously refreshing mac.com to see if I can get a cool .me name, but I know that it will go online just as my son wakes up and I'll miss the cool name!!!

With the exception of the new web apps, all of the following services are available: Mail, iChat, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and all published pages, including Galleries and iWeb sites.

The MobileMe web apps will be available as soon as possible.

Why is everyone so upset?

You anticipated a day outage?

Don't get personal

Why don't you go out for that run, and we'll catch up to you, Mr. high-end web developer.

STOP being such a blatant Apple apologist. You've been at MR all of 10 days and already you're an expert?

Go for that run.........NOW.

Actually I've been a fan of the site for over three years - i signed up about six hours ago, simply to post what I posted on here. And for your information, I am in no way a mac apologist, but I am most definitely a high end web developer for the largest web development company in the world - and I don't mean apple before anyone makes the obvious crack.

All I'm saying is stop going on about it, the whole 'debate' is boring - this is a very, very inexpensive consumer level product for which we were not given a specific launch date and time, only the time for the start of the transition. Apple have missed no deadline or broken any promise.

Apple said that MobileMe will be available with iPhone 2.0. When they release IPhone 2.0 software that's when they lift the lock of MobileMe.

Remember its not FRIDAY YET!:apple:

According to their site, it's available NOW.

Clearly, this isn't the case

Actually, no.

Apple said .mac would be taken offline for the launch of MobileMe between 6PM at 12am on the 9th. That was clearly delayed because of a problem.

And FYI iPhone 3G is out in some countries and they can use MobileMe, it's the services on PC, Mac and me.com that don't work.

well, Blake just woke up - therefore, I can pretty much guarantee that .mac will be up and running in 5 minutes while I'm changing his diaper.

You pay for the water you use. No water, no use. And if you have a monthly service charge that's associated with municipal water usage, they deduct the number of hours / days that you were without water from the bill, or credit the next payment.

A pay-in-advance service should compensate / credit you for the outage. I wouldn't hold my breath on Apple doing that here.

Mine have never credited the monthly service charge portion of the bill for planned outages, even if the run double the planned time.

why are they still letting people log in when the service is still clearly not running properly? Disable the login servers, fix the problem and then re-enable them... That solution would make more sense imo, rather than letting people poke around a broken system.

Because somebody leaked out the MobileMe software to everyone on this forum when it wasn't publicly available from Apple. Now people are helping to slow down the process of Apple making the transition by trying to login when they KNOW the service isn't ready.

2 changes down below make a world of difference, no? If it was anyone else (or specifically "someone"), these boards would look very, very different.

Sheesh, you are being very unreasonable, an hour or two for a major system upgrade serving millions of people? It takes longer than that set up (VISTA) and install all of your apps and get it up and running the way you want it.

(MICROSOFT) may just offer some form of remuneration but if you just wait till things are done before you stick your foot in your mouth...

I completely agree with you. Members need to relax...you're all behaving in the typical "American" way...bitchin' and complaining all the way to the bank..i mean, lawsuit. It sounds like you all think that you're entitled to this upgrade...may I ask how many of you actually signed up after the announcement? ...or did you all purchase your subscriptions last year? You're aren't "entitled" to this...it's a freebie from Apple.

However, remember that nothing is free. In this case, the cost is time. Suck it up.

j.

Actually, this is a subscription-based service that most of us have been paying for (remember .Mac?) since WELL BEFORE the announcement of MobileMe. This is most definately NOT just some freebie that we need to be patient and wait for.

Meanwhile, with MM not working, .Mac offline, and no iPhone, I can't access my e-mail remotely. Nice...

NO!

That's WRONG.

Apple released the update itself.

Not long after it did, MobileMe went down so Mac OS X is no longer offering the update to users. (the update process goes to check if it can access MobileMe. If it can, then you get the option to install the update).

You were also able to continue using the .mac software to access MobileMe - again until the service died.

Please don't spread FUD.
